Ha! Yes, You're really slumming it these days...I like your Vertical mill power setup. I saw in your rack of collets, the Z axis adapter for your drill. I made a bunch of those back in 2010 and gave them out to my machinist buddies. It's a must have if you have a long tool to load in your setup.

Now that’s a good eye to see a detail like that. I’m going to have to start hiding Easter eggs for you guys randomly in future pictures!

38°F and cloudy this morning, got up to 53° today. Was sunny most of the day. No more rain in the forecast until Friday.

Sad news about Whipper, Don. We know that feeling all too well here. As our vet told us, like Kilroy's, let her eat what she wants and just enjoy the time with her.
It's both hard and wonderful time.

Good evening, gents.

39F and cloudy @ 22:00, heading down to 35F for the low.

Long day/night "yesterday" ... coffee is tasting good though.

Lower back is killing me, probably from too much standing on concrete.

Doubtful if I will head up to the shop this evening. Might even go back to bed.

Did get a fair amount accomplished yesterday, including some clean up and organizing in the shop. That included unloading a pallet that had a number of items on it including the top frame for the LPGS build ... another project I need to get back to ... :giggle: ... and tearing it apart to burn.

Still working on getting all the silicone rubber removed from the Unisaw cabinetry but making progress ... just a little left to go:

IMG_2382 copy.jpg

Taking a little closer look at the black base of the saw, it seems like there was square dust port from the factory as original equipment ... so not real clear to me why someone would feel it was necessary to hack the cabinetry.

Went to clean up the throat plate and the contact cement reared its ugly head again ... all four of the set screws that allow for leveling the throat plate were full of it:

IMG_2376 copy.jpg

Screwed around quite a while trying to dig that out with a pick to get a hex bit in there to remove them. Finally hit it with carb cleaner and the acetone in that softened it right up. Chased the screws with a die after I got them out.

Did a little scrubbing on the hand wheels for the blade tilt and raise/lower, also cleaned out the bores with a fine stainless steel bore brush for a 12 gauge. A "before" pic:

IMG_2375 copy.jpg

Got the little welding table cleared off and started tearing into the 3 phase motor. Will need to do some further reading on that before I go any deeper:

IMG_2385 copy.jpg

Finally bit the bullet and pulled the guts of the machine: front and rear trunnion brackets, trunnion itself, blade arbor and motor mount ... along with two worm gears and shafts:

IMG_2383 copy.jpg

A bit tricky for one person to do alone (wouldn't want to drop any of those castings on the concrete) but manageable with care.

These old machines aren't terribly complex and can be gone through and rehabbed without too much difficulty by someone who possesses reasonable mechanical skills. They are rather durable apparently.

So if you see a deal and want a saw ... ;)

Had to cancel the order for the VFD and place it again - when they initially said it would be here "Monday" I didn't pay close attention to the date of the Monday they were talking about - it was going to be next Monday not today ...

Instead it will be here this Wednesday.

Also ordered zero-clearance UHMW throat plate and a 3/8 x 4 x 48 UHMW strip from Peachtree Wood working.

The strip will be used to reface the one side of the Biesenmeyer fence ... after I rip a small strip off of it to use as runners for a crosscut sled.

Also on the menu will be building a side extension for the table saw (described in the manual for the Biesenmeyer fence) for handling sheet goods (and because one can never have too many horizontal surfaces ... ;)) and a mobile base for both.

Hope everyone has a good evening ... (y)

Good evening all. 47ºF for the start, partly cloudy, light breeze. Light wind day, sky went to full overcast and high temp was 71ºF. Slow start to morning did get trash to curb. Decided to repair boat trailer guide, after removing carpeted wood and opened carpet up, I found the 2X4 and took a pic. Hard to believe lag bolts and staples still had grip in what was left of the wood. Did not check ho;e location in carpet so had to cut new holes :(. Any way new guide back on trailer. Went for bike ride after lunch, then lat nap, then late supper.

   / Good morning!!!! #167,010
Drinking first cup of coffee. 22° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 49° with clouds moving in afternoon. Yesterday was a mostly a conserve energy day. More of the same today.
Morning sun shining thru almost empty bird feeder.
5uzIDdz.jpg

Mostly, particle board 2 X 4 used in a wet environment. (n) Not good.

Don, prayers for Whipper.

Everyone stay well and safe.

Good Morning All.

47 going to 60.

Mostly, glad you caught that guide before it collapsed at a bad time.

Took my wife to the shoulder doctor...based on X-ray, looks a like a surgery is in her future, but MRI first. Did some Costco, and then treated her to some Torchy's Tacos to cheer her up.

Scheduled a slot for my son and me to draft fantasy baseball and thereby play in the same league together. Trash talk via text messages already underway.

Good Morning

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least Not screw up too badly).

puppy is energetic, lots of time needed, and Bailey needs attention, just spent 20 minutes out with her, so morning posts and catch-up for me will be “thin”.

changed water filter last night, didn’t inspect all the vents, but the two I did check sealed up pretty good (pics sometime soon hopefully). Ugly but effective. No evidence of critter intrusion, I smeared some peanut butter on a boards and it is untouched. Success!

time to get ready to go to the cube farm… three more weeks of taxes - yay.

Best Wishes for Whipper to have the best possible day —Doctor prescribes extra spoiling. Gotta change the air filter again. . .

I hope everyone has a happy healthy safe blessed day.

Prayers for all our Country Ukrainian people

Good morning, the low is 21 and the high is gonna be about 43°F. Wind NE 3 mph. Partly sunny.

I think I may remove more of the windbreak in front of the house today, maybe. Might just watch the snow melt instead.

It really sucks to watch a pet/companion go downhill like Whipper is doing.

Have a safe day all

Good Morning
It’s 40 and going to 50 today, should be dry, we got 1/4” yesterday.

Did well in the shop yesterday, Zoe’s class went well, we are actually making progress.

Wont be much to report on for the next few days, I’ll be traveling every day. Home every night, but won’t get much done while I’m here.

Don, so sorry about Whipper, just make the best of the time left.

good morning all
another warm morning, 75 out now, with showers today and tomorrow coming in. They really need it here, been very dry.
I'm off to Publix this morning to do a little food shopping for trip home and will take my stuff back over to rv. After dinner, host's friend will give me a ride back to campground, only five minutes away but too far to walk in local traffic. Then I'll spend tonight in rv and head off to Fort Myers tomorrow morning.

replacement tire cover came in, this time I'm putting it on with a bunch of knots. Very happy to get bad bulbs replaced, not happy I was driving without a left turn signal for a while. No wonder I didn't get any respect when I moved over, indicator clicking away, and no lights in rear. Not a safe thing.

had a very relaxing day here yesterday, can really get in the lazy zone watching the water. Actually since it's going to rain today and likely tomorrow morning, glad I didn't wash rv. Its beige color doesn't show the dirt too badly. I will absolutely want to wash it after spending night at the beach in two days, get the salt spray off it.

I wish my friend was doing better with his bad leg but despite PT he still has poor control, not sure he is ever going to drive again without getting hand controls. So I've been happy to do the driving while here, he has a compact GMC Denali with the little diesel in it.
I also think he has some cognitive issues creeping in, there but for the Grace of God go I....

Goood Morning!!!! 46F @ 3:30AM. Windy at times with rain likely. Potential for heavy rainfall. High 51F. Winds SSE at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall near an inch.
More rain than sun in the 10-day, but March will go out like a lamb under partly cloudy skies.

The blades on the Brushog i bought used many yesrs ago were quite dull, so I took 'em off and sharpened them on the milling machine. The ground was still quite uneven back then, and I think they spent as much time planing dirt than chopping grass and weeds. Sharpened them again, and now they're dull again. But I don't use the Bushog much since I got the flail, and should get around to selling it this spring to free up some space in the yard. It's a 60" and mechanically sound, but cosmetically challenged from sitting out in the weather.

Whipper is quite the dog, Don. Sorry to hear the tough news.

It's looking like the best day in that saw's life is when you brought it home, RS.

Supposed to get a zoom tour of another property tomorrow, a former mess hall from Vandenberg Space Force Base built back in 1942 and later moved to its present location on a 1.65 acre lot. Real estate agent says it will go fast, but I'm pretty sure it's a total fixer, and maybe even a tear down, so I'm looking more out of curiosity than real intent to purchase. But it could be a diamond in the rough, so just have to see.

Managed to bounce around in the side-by-side and get some spraying done, covering all around the house. Wind picked up after the second tank so the rest will have to wait until the rain stops again.

Contractor buddy came over with his Razor buggy and we rode it down the boat launch road looking for an illegal camper. Didn't see any sign of him, or anyone else, either, so got the tractor and moved the downed tree over so it covers up the new trail a few people have made driving around the tree. Then moved three more dead trees to the pile to further discourage traffic down that road. I'd like to see it closed, but my guess is that the electric utility will eventually clear it to keep access to the power lines down there.

Not sure what I'll get into today, but with this little bout of insomnia, it might include an afternoon nap.
