FIL had property up on 601. Could the rocky cliffs have been Ravens Rock? We use to walk out the back door to the overlook (spectacular at moon rise) quite often when the kids were small. Now, there are nothing but houses and everything is private so people park on 7.

Progress....
Raven's Rock is on the north side of Snickers Gap (Rte 7). I've heard it's beautiful, and that's part of my next planned hike. Bear's Den is just a half mile south from the same Rte 7 parking lot. That's neat that you were able to go there years ago before so much development.

Save the fresnel lens if it's not cracked. They make an amazing solar oven. Outer screen is lenticular, fresnel is behind it.

There are 2 layers there.

What do you use solar oven for?

Ordered a $17 Amazon replacement battery for my 14.4v Dewalt to see if it will work. Has good reviews. I have 2 drills, circular saw, sawzall & flashlight that use them , mine won’t hold a charge. This is cheaper than a sawzall for my Bosch batteries.

Two parts...front up & down ridges is lenticular, you won't need. Behind has circular ridges...that's the fresnel.
Lot's of youtube videos, you can weld, braze, cook, etc.

Good very late morn! Low was 29°, about 4" snow overnight, but that melted off with the rain that followed. Didn't check the gauge to see how much. I was just glad that the rain came.

Had to go into town this morning, bunch of errands, and a stop at the metal supplier. Going to make a couple more edge tamers for another member from TBN (neighbor a few miles away). Steel prices about 40% higher than 2 years ago. Not happy about that.....

For the dust collector systems, here is a link using a trash can. This is the setup that I used last year.

I did find a 'diy' dust collector that added some plywood diverters inside the trash can that separates the lower collection section from the upper suction section. They definitely helped.... couldn't find the video....

Here are some links for adaptors:

35F cloudy...weather station saying around 4pm rain showers turning to snow showers ending around 7pm.

Work day was burr...checking load of prime meat and noting was adding up  finally look shipping receipt wrong address, truck driver should have gone to Lebanon Maine not to Lebanon, NH. :( and he was out of driving hours for today. :(

Clean the feeding since couple days nasty starting Thursday ending Saturday early morning, this evening playing by ear.

Enjoy your evening all.
I and my cohorts (out of an army lab based in Virginia) were on a trip from Fort Bliss, TX to Lebanon, NH. The airline booked the bags to Beirut, Lebanon.

Any way those taper adapters could find their way to Kalifornia?😳🤣
Not yet anyway...just the old lathe tooling for now.

BTW, I'm having trouble wrapping my head around you possibly moving. I have told countless people of your efforts to put the power company on a back shelf. It just seems that you have worked so hard, (and spent so much money) to make your place, your place. Did that wind damage make up your mind? You mentioned "safer"....are you talking from meth heads, cuz buddy, they are everywhere you go. OTOH, if you're just trying to cash in, and lower your grounds keeping efforts, I might could understand that.

Billy, glad you had a great hike. Keep up the hard work/fun. I take it you never damaged your knees on motorcycle wipe outs when you were young?

Got about half my corner braces before I got weathered out. Light rain and breezy, but we so do need the rain so no complaint.

So spending time updating my financial/budget spreadsheets. I keep everything in numerous interlinked spreadsheets, bank accounts, credit cards, etc. Have to properly close out the previous year in order to get proper starting balance for the new year.

Sears didn’t actually get the washer fixed. Being an intermittent problem it didn’t cooperate and show itself. Tech says it is a communication issue involving several locations and without an error code there was no way to figure which component. I did extend the protection agreement another 2 years. Not a big fan of extended warranties, but this plan has been worthwhile and I know as soon as I let it lapse everything will break down.

Decent, I'll say!

Do they all come with the coffee maker attachment?🤣
The South Bend Nordic has a planetary gear tailstock. The reduction helps when using bigger drills. When I got mine, it was acting up. My boss made me a PEEK plastic carrier for the ball bearings in it and it works like a champ now.

Here is a good YouTube on burning things with the lens.

When you get through playing with it, people are buying them on e-bay.

A man arrives at the airport with 2 sets of luggage. He puts one set on the scale and tells the clerk to send that set to Hawaii, and then puts the other set on it and tells the clerk to send that set with him to Miami. The clerk says, "we can't do that", to which the man says, "why not, you did last week". Airlines are like the post office, only as efficient as the idiot behind the counter.

Part if it is that I'm getting older, and physically less capable of keeping up with the maintenance this place needs. Bending over to pick rocks doesn't take long to start hurting, and bumpy rides on tractors are verging on unbearable. Then there's the poop yer pants fun of running the tractor on the steep hillsides just to keep the grass cut. Life might literally be too short with one slip of a wheel or an inopportune equipment failure. BTDT.

A bigger part is that I'm not spending my time doing the things I love to do. When I'm out fixing ruts on the driveway, or cleaning up downed trees, or huddling inside because it's too smoky outside to breathe, or the wind is blowing the porch roof off the back side of the house, leading to yet another time wasting exercise, I'm wasting time. I've reached a time in my life where I'm literally running out of time, and I can't afford to waste any more of it fighting Mother Nature.

You're right, I've spent a small fortune identifying and mitigating one after another problem with this particular slice of heaven. And at almost every turn, Mother Nature has shown me the folly of my ways. There's no easy way out, though. On the other hand, if it's not Mother Nature, it's the meth head waiting on you when you come out of the pharmacy with your perscription in your pocket, or a drunk driver, or an inconsiderate neighbor that just has to mow their lawn at 2AM. And I'm not even going into the economic uncertainty around changing places, especially in inflation crazy California. You names yer poison and you takes your chances, and the devil you know isn't necessarily better than the one you don't. I just know that I can't keep doing what I've been doing and expect a better result; it's just never turned out that way. I'm not expecting a bed of roses, but almost anything's better that beating my head against the wall and expecting it to feel good.

Insightful. Best of luck sorting out.

i don’t know how old you are, but very well said. I have struggled with some of the same issues.

   / Good morning!!!! #163,120
a very early morning good morning to all.
going up to almost 50 today, then lots of rain tomorrow

had a nice visit with stepbrother and wife, good friends who live a mile away.
They brought me some of my favorite apples, and a half dozen freshly laid brown eggs.
Going to have eggs and something for breakfast, bet the yolks are lot more yellow than store bought.

timing not so hot, just hardboiled 10 eggs, boiled them for ten minutes, then plunged into ice water.
Eggs were good, less well cooked than normal, still a little moisture inside vs the rubber balls you normally get.
I've been trying to substitute several hard boiled eggs, heavily peppered, for breakfast vs store bought breakfast sandwiches.
And so far they have peeled ok. Success. And now I have even more eggs.
Did I see a pic where eggs were selling for 7.50 a dozen? Something about a chicken virus?
My last batch was almost 5 dollars a dozen, where for years and years I've been paying 2.39 a dozen.

I'll let Scaredy chime in here as to what these eggs should cost. I'm thinking 4-5 dollars a dozen for plain eggs makes sense.
percentage wise, this is one heck of an increase.

RNG, your analysis is really sensible to me. Lots of places to live, most where the environment doesn't constantly stress you out.
My sister in Muir Beach finally said last week, after six days of rain, I'm getting tired of this. Wasn't just the rain either. She has both of her kids an hour
away with four grandchildren, worrying about all of them. Seems to be a high risk, high reward area.

where to get away from crackheads is a really good question. No experience with that, thankfully.

coffee doing down well. Heading out to lunch later at friend's home outside of Harleysville, will wave to Popgadget going by, and not picking up his new
solar heater/weed burner...aka tv.
