I pretty much assumed that I would be cutting it up, but it pains me to destroy something that is fully functional.

I believe the bulb went out in mine, just not worth replacing. Bought in 2007 for $1200. Can now get bigger and better for $500

67°F and no rain. Article in local paper about how dry this year has been

Got all my corner braces cut and painted yesterday. Let paint dry over night. Today the fun of installing. Will nail in place using nail gun then drill and secure with SS lag bolts. Gonna take awhile and all ladder work.

Sears service tech due today for intermittent problem - doesn’t always turn on. I suspect the button may be bad.

Good lunch with BIL and his GF. Even better, he treated.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Good Morning,
It was 45F when I got up this morning under cloudy foggy skies. Overnight low was 38 and a forecast high of 47 and rain showers starting about noon.

Contractor for my pole barn was a no show no call so I am not sure what is going on there. Haven't heard from him today either.

I had 2 mini-splits installed about a year ago. One of them works great, the other one doesn't maintain setpoint if there is a north wind blowing!!??? I had AC company come out yesterday and take a look. I was pleasantly surprised, I called them at 2:30 and they were here at 3:45. Turns out that during the initial install they didn't seal where the pipes went into the building, I just had a 2" hole there. What was happening was when the north winds blew, the air went thru the hole, directly into the unit right were the indoor temp sensor is located. Thus throwing off what the unit thought was the indoor temperature. I had the set point at 61F and the room was at 74!! They sealed up the opening with silicon caulk, like the other unit, and it should be fine now.

MiniSplit DIY'ers- Make sure you seal up the wall where the refrigerant lines enter the building.

Liz still in NC, she is waiting for a concrete contractor to come give her an estimate for a new walkway.

When my BIL died, I also inherited 6 APC battery backup units. One of them worked fine, one of them needed new batteries. Another one acted like it needed new batteries but even with new batteries it indicated the batteries were dead. Pulled it apart and the battery voltage is making it to the electronics board, no fuses are blown, but the unit doesn't recognize the new batteries. Looks like that one is heading for the dump as I don't think it is worth buying a new board, if I could get one. Two of the others won't turn on, time to pull the batteries out and send them to the dump as well. I haven't even looked at the last one.

Have a good day, everyone be careful out there.

Thanks for the shuttle offer. Goldilocks shuttled me yesterday. Really made it work out great.

Seems like the most hikers I saw yesterday parked at a good sized parking area on Morgans Mill Road (gravel road from Frogtown up to Mt Weather) and hiked south up Piney Ridge (real pretty) and/or north up Buzzard Hill (great view and Pua Falls on the way). Also popular is parking at Rte 7 and hiking up to Bears Den with a beautiful rocky cliff overlook (short hike). I liked these sections more than the I 66 north section to Paris.

The recliner is feeling extra good today.
FIL had property up on 601. Could the rocky cliffs have been Ravens Rock? We use to walk out the back door to the overlook (spectacular at moon rise) quite often when the kids were small. Now, there are nothing but houses and everything is private so people park on 7.

Progress....

53F and mostly cloudy @ 14:30, was calling for a high of around 56F today, thus far it was 54.3F and that looks like that may be it for the day.

Tollhouse cookies were perfect, think they were some different variety that had extra chocolate chips in them or something.

Headed back up to the shop around 23:00 but not before I helped The Woman do some vacuuming on the tv and stand, also wiped down the front. Need to finish that up today while it's light out (poor lighting in living room) and move the DVD player from the old tv stand to new one.

It was raining when I headed back up and that got heavier after I got up there. About 0.58" so far between yesterday and today.

Wood in the stove was mostly gone and temp had dropped to high 50's when I got back up there so I reloaded and got it cranked up.

Went to sharpen next chain and found that it looked like it had already been sharpened, also seem to be short a chain. Need to figure out what's going on with that.

Cardboard now all piled in one spot in front of the overhead door. Got more of it burned, but there is still a lot left to go. Really want to reduce it, since it presents a fire hazard.

Cut the (badly rusted) bottom out of a square galvanized wash tube I hauled off from the neighbors as part of her clean up project. Now bottomless, it will get used as a planter somewhere in the yard.

Noticed head had fallen off the handle of the hand sledge, so I got out a file and trimmed down the handle a little more so the head fit on further and reinserted the wedge. Should be secure now.

Moved the Craftsman garage door opener off a stool and a pallet that had a bunch of junk on it. Need to do some research on that and see if it can even be used.

Moved some some large heavy pieces of steel back by the welding table where hopefully they won't be in the way quite as much.

Still no luck on finding any 1/4" flat stock, did verify that side plates on the SSQA mounts are 5/16". Stuck magnets on the SSQA mount on the pallet fork frame to secure whatever stock I end up using.

Reinstalled the oxy regulator back on the O2 tank and hooked the hose to the torch back up to it.

Swept up a bunch of debris on the floor.

Drained a couple of oil filters into the 55 gallon drum that holds the waste oil. Next step will be to pull the rubber gaskets and toss the filters in the stove while there is a fire going to turn them into non-oily recyclable metal.

Pulled the lid and inspected 30 gallon Safety Kleen drum. Looks like I may have already cleaned it out at some point, just a little debris and a small amount of clean solvent in the bottom. Looks like it could work for dust/debris collection, only issue is the handle for the band clamp that secures the lid opens inward ... probably for security reasons (to avoid handle get knocked loose during transport/handling)

So need to study that and see if I can figure out a way to modify the handle so it opens outward. Otherwise the handle would hit the Dust Deputy when the handle is opened to remove the lid to empty the drum.

OTOH, the suction from the vacuum itself may eliminate the need for a band clamp for the lid. The only concern I'd have with that is making sure that the lid (with the DD attached) wouldn't easily pull off since the DD is only plastic and could break if it fell on the floor.

Located the manual for the Shop Vac. It's a model 8030, 10 gallon stainless steel drum rated at 185 CFM with a static pressure of 56" water. The manual is marked with a copyright date of 1991, so it been around for a while.

It is listed as having 2 1/2" intake ... so apparently that is the actual hose size as the cuff on the hose that fits into the vacuum isn't that big. (So no adapter required - good: one less thing to buy)

Knocked off around 02:00, was a toasty 85F when I left and came back down to the house.

In doing some reading on Oneida's website found that Menard's actually handles the Dust Deputy, looks like Massillon has 2 in stock for $39 or so. Look to be the original (smaller) units though ... :(

Agenda for the rest of the day:

Refill deer and hopper feeders.

Maybe head back up to the shop and see what I can push forward there, since it's warm enough out that it will be easy to heat.

Will probably get roped into doing some more clean up down here at the house.

Hope everyone is having a good Tuesday ... (y)
