46F and cloudy @ 15:15, heading up to around 50F for the high by 23:00 or so.

Refilled hopper feeder + some work done out in the garage yesterday, also fed the fishies.

But it was mainly an energy conservation day.

Woman pan-fried some pork chops yesterday in an Orange Marmalade sauce which were really tasty, first time we tried that recipe and it's a keeper. Continued working on cleaning up leftovers we brought home as well: green beans, scalloped potatoes, and corn souffle all of which were very good.

Woman brought home a six pack of Old Leg Humper so I had one of those as well with dinner.

Followed by a large glass of Kahlua and creme afterwards ...

We ended up watching a movie on Prime - "Where The Crawdads Sing" - which was very good.

We were both up pretty late, I didn't get up until 11:00 and She didn't get up until around noon.

Nonetheless, She's got the sausage dumplings and sauerkraut simmering away on the stove for dinner tonight over at the relatives:

Heading downstairs for bit before I get cleaned up, need to do some gluing.

Best Wishes for a Happy New Year to all the TBN crowd ... (y)

Happy New year and Good Afternoon.
It’s 46 and will likely break 50 with clear skies. A big change from yesterday’s foggy gloom.

Today we should have all the kids here for an early supper, I have a ribeye roast in the oven at 210 for a slow cook to finish with a reverse sear at 575. Rubbed it with salt, pepper and olive oil and let it stand for a few hours before putting it in the oven.
Planning on steaming some broccoli and and some mashed potatoes for sides.

The talk of Potato cannons and Ben bag launchers had me go look in the shed, where I found these. They work as advertised.

For todays roast, I instrumented the oven with outboard thermometers to measure both oven and meat temps. The oven has its own meat probe, which I am using as well, but now I can check it for accuracy. I replaced the Range a couple years ago, this one seems to do much better at controlling the heat. The old one would make a sawtooth graph as it dropped below the set point and then heated up past the set point.
This one seems to plot a smooth line without the saw tooth pattern. It’s own temp probe is within a degree of my reference probe. The oven’s actual temp is about 12 degrees over the set temp, but doesn’t vary more than a degree or two.

I see you have similar taste in NEO beers @rswyan. Old Leg Humper is one of my go to’s. My step son in eastern WV has taken a liking to it as well and enjoys when I give him a 6 pack.

Good (Monday) morning. Overnight Low of 17C and it's presently 21C and, although calm, there's a thunderstorm sweeping through at the moment. There was 0.5mm in the gauge at 0900.

Today's activities will probably be restricted to the house due to the weather... we'll probably 'un-deck the halls' (take down the Christmas decorations). A tip-run is definitely in the cards soon what with 3 people in the house.

That's about it, take care all.

Good evening all. 50ºF for the start, partly cloudy, and light breeze. Light to moderate wind, partly cloudy sky and high temp was 77ºF. Chapel to start, Hot cereal mix for breakfast then kitchen cleanup. Then motivation fell off. Did get nap in. Seat heater in truck not working, took a peak underneath to see if cable unplugged, no such luck. Failed to get lights done on such a nice day, and that is a strategic error.

Good morning, low temp 30 and the high to 30°F. Wind W 7 mph. Light rain. The one thing I hate about winter...Freezing rain. Hopefully we don't get much of it.

Years ago when I had chickens, I had a two circuit power wire running under the driveway about 2" in PVC conduit. I think it was 8/3 wire (nothing like overkill), it replaced what the previous owner of this place had [14/2 in a copper pipe]. The wire ran from the breaker panel to a junction box under the eaves, then down the log wall and was direct burried under the lawn and across a permanently wet swale and through the copper pipe. Is there any wonder his electric bill was $1,000.oo every three months? Well, I hooked it with the back blade yesterday and uprooted it. [The two breakers to the hen house have been shut off for about 5 years or so.] No big deal there, but now I need to get the rest of the wire out of the driveway and that is the job for today IF it doesn't rain too hard. I think a hacksaw will make quick work of the whole thing. The driveway is all cleaned up though, so there is that.
The worst of it was up by the house. Now the snow/slush is down to the ice. Some ashes will take care of that.

I never had a potato cannon, my Dad wouldn't allow that. I had a Lee-Enfield .303 instead. Mother hated it and firearms in general so she made Dad promise to NEVER teach me about it. Dad was an armourer and an instructor in the R.C.A.F. during the war.

The foreman (21 years younger than me) I haul to up north had a potato canon and powered it with a mixture of acetylene and oxygen from his torches on the service truck. That lasted until the day it exploded in his hand and drove a piece of PVC pipe into the fatty part of his thumb.
I told him it wasn't a very bright idea, but you know how kids are.

You guys have a safe day

Coffee just finished brewing. 37° with fog this morning. Heading to 45° with cloudy skies. Good relaxing day yesterday. Back to doing shop projects today.
Caught a break in clouds yesterday evening. If we get some clear skies. January Wolf full Moon will be Friday night.
