Good morning and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
low was 33°, going up to near 50°. No precip overnight, now not expected until this afternoon. 80% chance of rain showers this evening, then turning to snow in the overnight hours. Heavy cloud cover now.

Last night's festivities on tv were disappointing. We have 3 local syndicated channels, ABC, CBS, NBC. Only 2 had NYE shows, ABC had absolutely nothing!

Then to top it off, NBC was out of Miami.... with all the hip-hop and weird people... strange music if you can call it music.... and it was broadcast delayed, so essentially 2 hours behind....
CBS was a little better, coming out of Nashville. Got tired of the music / artists on there too.... At least there were a few 'older' artists that we liked. Again, broadcast delay, but only an hour.

The son and 2 GS were here, they had cookies and ice cream. We celebrated on our own at 22:00 (official east coast time). Went to bed around 23:00.

Wifey put the blueberry/cheesecake pie in the oven already. The official taste test of the ingredients give it a (y) Should be even better later!

Homemade lasagna next to go into the oven. Haven't had it in over 10 months... all good things come to those who wait.....

Not sure what, if anything, I'll get into today.... probably just watch some tv.

Everyone have a great day!

Good morning and happy new year everyone! I had a lovely sleep last night despite the fireworks going off at midnight.

What a difference on the deck this morning, all of the snow that came around Christmas has all melted,, and even the driveway is now down to the gravel. it is because we were above freezing for a few days and got a good amount of rain. Morris to come on Tuesday, and then finally on Thursday back down below freezing for several days. (The snowmobilers must be really pissed. There’s a beautiful mess of snow over Christmas, but now all the roads are bare, and I’m sure the trails are really crappy.)

Time to clean up the garage, and make space to put the TVs in there beside the tractor, so they are finally out of the snow.

I think I mentioned before and then both my wife and I have Alligatoritis, which probably started on December 23 or so. The effects on my taste buds have been quite interesting. I do have taste, but many things taste different and in a very pleasant way. For example, our white wine has been tasting very good these days. Better than it tasted before. and the steak last night was amazing! so, maybe the taste issue will not be so bad for me after all.

Everyone have a great day, I look forward to a positive productive and happy new year.

Happy New year and Good Afternoon.
It’s 46 and will likely break 50 with clear skies. A big change from yesterday’s foggy gloom.

Today we should have all the kids here for an early supper, I have a ribeye roast in the oven at 210 for a slow cook to finish with a reverse sear at 575. Rubbed it with salt, pepper and olive oil and let it stand for a few hours before putting it in the oven.
Planning on steaming some broccoli and and some mashed potatoes for sides.

The talk of Potato cannons and Ben bag launchers had me go look in the shed, where I found these. They work as advertised.

For todays roast, I instrumented the oven with outboard thermometers to measure both oven and meat temps. The oven has its own meat probe, which I am using as well, but now I can check it for accuracy. I replaced the Range a couple years ago, this one seems to do much better at controlling the heat. The old one would make a sawtooth graph as it dropped below the set point and then heated up past the set point.
This one seems to plot a smooth line without the saw tooth pattern. It’s own temp probe is within a degree of my reference probe. The oven’s actual temp is about 12 degrees over the set temp, but doesn’t vary more than a degree or two.
