Poured first cup of coffee. 32° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 43° with cloudy skies. Started up JD lawnmower. 20 year old battery still had enough in it to start up the diesel engine. With neighbors help got mower off and put snowblower and snow chains on. Took Christmas Tree down and stored away in barn until next year. Did several other outdoor projects before coming back in house. Sat down in recliner about 6:00. Watched some TV and woke up at 2:30 am. Missed dinner and the New Year excitement. I feel good and ready to get the new year off to a good start. Going to be a conserve energy day while making my usual New Years day phone calls.

Good Morning and Happy New Year!

God has given us another chance to get it right (or at least not screw up too badly).

just took the sweet potato soufflé fixins out of the fridge, and will pack it in baking pans a little later

The locally-sourced Angus GF/GF 3-bone Prime Rib is coming out of the cooler shortly - it has been marinating with a rub since yesterday afternoon, and most of the rub will get wiped off before roasting. 18lbs - it must have been a MASSIVE beeve!

Asparagus got peeled and stood up in some water last night, and are all nice and perky this morning. I steam them in a coffee pot. The thicker part of the stem gets boiled, the delicate tips get steamed, and I can use a small element on the stove top to do it.

Dessert is a Christmas Pudding I ordered from Jolly Old England, and it needs to be steamed for 2-1/2 hours! I hope it is good. . .

45.1F at the moment and misty - allegedly the Sun will come out later in the morning, which would be nice. . . Our solar install is rather disappointing - 4x375w panels, 4x1000Ah Batteries, and all I am running on it are the fridge, a 500 lumen outdoor floodlight with light sensor, and the microwave (which is rarely used) and I get about a day or so before I am plugging in the fridge to an extension cord. I get that it is winter, and the days are short, and the weather is crap - but after a wall-to-wall blue-sky day, when the bank is fully charged by 2PM and is in float for the next two hours, I would like to get at least 48 hours out of it. . . I have a couple free-standing solar “streetlights” I ordered, I will likely replace that flood with one and reduce that load.

I hope everyone has a Happy Healthy Safe Prosperous Dull Boring 2023!!!

That would be a trick to see!
When we moved from PDSRNJ 9 years ago, I gifted it to a friend - we had packed up more than enough stuff!

YHE FOLLOWING IS DANGEROUS AND STUPID AND YOU ARE A COMPLETE MORON IF YOU LISTEN TO ANYTHING I SAY. (That goes for pretty much anything I say. . .🤣😂)

With that out of the way. . .

basic parts description:

Q:2 - 4” PVC Cleanouts female

Q:1 each:
4” PVC 450rd Y fitting (the larger of the two options on the shelf)
4”x3” PVC bushing
3”x1-1/2” PVC bushing
1-1/2” PVC female thread adapter

4” pvc pipe to make rings for assembly

1-1/2” copper tube, 54” long
1-1/2” copper or brass male thread adapter

1 piezo BBQ igniter.
short length of insulated solid copper wire 12ga- to 18ga

broomstick

PVC primer/glue
Epoxy glue.

optional: old jeans, duct tape

the barrel is removable for transport.

the igniter is mounted into a hole drilled into a cleanout cap, and is used on the angled Y arm.

the igniter is modified with copper wire replacing the long Lear, mans fashioned into a ground contact just like a spark plug, with just enough bare copper exposed to reliably arc. YOU MAY HAVE TO HIT THE IGNITER SEVERAL TIMES. THERE MAY BE DELAYED IGNITION.

rings should be cut such that, when the pieces are assembled, the fittings butt against each other with no gap, and what gap there is gets filled with glue when the parts are assembled and pressed together.

My propellant of choice is Ether. Unlike hairspray or WD40, there is much less residue and the igniter stays cleaner. And you spray it in almost like you don’t want to get any in there - it is that short a burst of spray.

the broomstick is a ramrod. I put a piece of threaded Rod 3” long though the broomstick at 48” as a stop, so that you don’t punch the spud down too far and into the chamber.

once the potato is fully seated, you can give a quick spray of WD40 or similar down the barrel to reduce friction and increase muzzle velocity.

use the muzzle end to cut the potato to bore size. WEAR A GLOVE!!! If it will cut the potato, it will cut your hand.

you can wrap the PVC chamber with old denim and duct tape if you are safety conscious and concerned about possible fracturing/grenading. Also, all PVC parts can be substituted with black ABS which tends to stretch/bulge rather than fracture.

REMEMBER: THE ABOVE IS PROVIDED FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN. ALL THE RULES FOR REAL FIREARMS APPLY.

Happy New Year!

50 going to 65. Got a big rain yesterday, but made the final dump run of the year and hike down to the river before it started.

Son and DIL went to visit my mom, then came back for a shrimp and soft shell crab dinner that my wife prepared. We played Mexican Train until midnight, then toasted in the new year and a celebratory kiss. Then I was in bed by 12:05, knowing I'd wake up by 5am.

Good morning and happy new year 2023

43 going to 55 today no rain in the forecast. Very warm
Glad to see some of you stayed up for the new year. I missed it. Did not hear any fireworks around here for the first time this year

Zion is coming out to visit today so we will get Cody and Zion up in the fenced yard to have some fun
Will spend some time today with one of the kids and friend visiting.

That potato gun sounds like fun

When teen experienmented with home made small cannons. Do not recommend that. Very dangerous. Brother got hurt but not seriously
Boiling fuses in gunpowder soup not recommended it ended not good

Other than that no plans today except what comes up
