Question on a battery chainsaw. Which size would you recommend? 14" or 16"?

Good morning to all! Low of 34°, going up to around 50°. Changes are expected over the next couple days.... highs dropping into the low 40's, lows into the low 20's, chances of light rain / snow.

Don't know what happened to a post here yesterday...... just disappeared....

Anyway, today's agenda is multiple errands.... the PO, then Costco, then Wally World.... hopefully won't be too busy on a Tuesday morning.....

I need to get into the shop and finish a project that I started last winter.... bucket "Edge tamers". They were 80% done last winter, but then got put aside being that winter was over.... basically forgot about them on the shelf until a few days ago.... all bends are made, small pieces cut, just need to weld together, then add my own "mounting system", utilizing the existing holes for the toothbar.
I'll be mad at myself if I don't complete them by the first heavy snow.....

Need to get going....
Everyone have a great day!

14" is plenty. My Dewalt is 12" and is real useful. The bigger stuff gets done by the gas units.

Good Morning - currently 50° going to 59° with rain later today

Thanks for all the info on chainsaws. Will look at u-tube video tonight to see what they have to say..
I currently do not own any battery powered tools. Everything is gas. Echo backpack blower & weedeater..Would not give up either one of these.. My gas saws are worn out and I don't need them much anymore..

Have a great day everyone..

5 years ago I had all gas saws and trimmers. My right shoulder went bad. Probably from pulling start cord on my Stihl tools. Today I have a Extend It group of tools from Ryobi. I still cannot easily start a gas powered tool. All I have left with gas is a Echo blower and a Ryobi power head for the extend it tools. Very hard for me to start these tools. About ready to give them to my young neighbor.

14”. One thing you will learn about using a battery chainsaw is do not force it to cut. It will overheat the battery. I have 4 ah 40 volt batteries. By the time I get first battery discharged I need to take a break. I also have a pole saw that uses same batteries. I use it for trimming. Do not need to get close to a downed tree with it.

All my batteries came with Milwaukee tools so unless they are counterfeits they are OEM.

I use 16 inch on the Makita. I have the Milwaukee batteries from many tools but chose to go with Makita for chainsaw. It has its limitations and can plug up the chain if I push it and it is best for 12 inch or smaller branches. Always go with longer bars and learned to use them to balance with when space is tight around logs and branches. They provide good lean to support while moving around to avoid tripping. My Stihl is 20 inch and works good for that.
Ron my shoulder is bothering me also and pulling the start rope makes it worse. I don't know if I can get used to a left hand pull? Was hoping it would clear up with time but not so far

My Husqvarna saws always start on two pulls. Let the flaming start...

69°F and .06 inches rain.

Slept in a bit. Got to bed late as we ventured up to see the lava flow last night. Amazing! What a spectacular! We were there between 11 and midnight, stopping maybe a dozen times along the observation route, Dave and Theresa taking dozens of pics. We’ll playback on the TV later. Was quite surprised how uncrowded. The observation route is about 4 miles long, the old Saddle Road. Kudos to the State, County, and Army for such a good plan. I can see making a return trip should major changes be reported.

Did get garden area tilled again. Did some tractor maintenance, and a good cleaning.

Might be an energy conservation day today.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Please share. I have never seen hot lava in person.

I have seen people in hot lava mode, but that don't count. LOL.

:D
My Poulan, 20 plus years old, no new parts, does the same. HAH!

Throttle cable keeps slipping back into the handle though.... means I have to cut at full power! Dangerous.

only flaming here is David's volcano.
one thing electric always does is start.
I knew one guy who never put chain oil in it.
Didn't understand he needed it, wondered why chain cut so poorly.
Bet he warped the bar

Financial guy gave for me to retire. So tomorrow I tell the boss it’s going to happen. The experiment starts in January. I’m nervous. He thinks ok to partially draw from IRA till I’m 67.
Rain starts tomorrow morning.
Red X's on the calendar starts and before you know it no more slow rolls to work. (y)

Got a call from Domino's..... the general manager was very apologetic, said the situation should never had happened. I drove down there, took the pizzas to show her (yes, I did save them). When I showed her the pictures when they were fresh, she immediately said "unacceptable". We had a good conversation about how the crew were acting inappropriately and some of the things they were saying.

She made a couple more replacement pizzas, which were done perfectly. We had a good late lunch. I have a couple more free pizzas waiting for our next order. I am glad they stepped up and took care of the problem.

There may be hope for 'customer service' yet......

46F, wet, and cloudy @ 15:30, heading up to a high of around 49F with a slight chance of rain on and off throughout the day, then steady light rain overnight.

Ten Day shows we are now in "Grey Mode" ... with cloudy skies called for through the entire 10 day period ... :(

Heading down into the basement here shortly.

Haul some more stuff down.

Probably draw some more water, also move what is already drawn over to the fish room.

Otherwise do more clean up, drain water heater sediment, clean furnace filter.

Have some research to do on Medicare/insurance probably later this evening ... not something I'm looking forward to ... at all ... :(

Hope everyone is having a good day ... (y)

I may have to start looking at a battery chainsaw - seems safer to me, than the Stihl 14" gas chainsaw that I have. Starting it is a challenge (me, not the machine). Love it, mostly bought it to hve something here, if people showed up and were willing to fall a tree etc

snowing again today, I may need to plow a bit
