I have 2 steps in my garage. 3 yrs ago when I was in wheelchair my friend built a ramp in garage for me. It prevents me from parking in that side of garage. I will probably remove it soon.

It is handy having though.

Good morning, t'was a little chilly first thing this morning, but it is warming up nicely now to a high of 64 and clear.

Yesterday I got the laundry done and the front and side yards mowed.
Today will be cutting the back after moving the steel the welder couldn't be bothered to come out and weld for me, back behind the garage.
I'm going to start stripping out the truck in preparation for layoff time.

I won't be online again until the week of holidays I take before returning the truck to the junk yard and collecting my Dodge.

Stay safe all

Another nice day in the forecast. 66 now going to 76F. Mowed an the upper area yesterday and will mowe some more today around the barn.

Riptides, we have gone through several insurance damage settlements. In our case they issued us a check and we found our own contractor. Our barn roof was replaced after some damage but ended up costing a lot of money because replacing the roof instead of the damaged portion. But it will outlive us and the next owners as well.

The roof on the log cabin was replaced with a standing seam roof that likely will last a 100 yearsIMG_1013.jpeg

The smoke house we just covered up the wood shingle roof with metal roof panels

I had several insurance claims for the tractor because of damage clearing land for trees and rocks. Took the insurance money and fixed it myself making a few bucks on it. The below pic is from hood damage where a tree mashed in the corner several inches. My old experience from my teen years came to good use.

That is all great input, and what I was looking for.
I have had an automatic backup backup generator for over 30 years, and have the transfer to and from the grid worked out to be seamless with a combination of UPS’ and time delays. I really have no need for the solar to provide any back up.

I have reviewed my usage, and have sized the system to cover what I use on a yearly basis. I need to review the utility’s policy on solar generation, and gain a clear understanding of how the buy vs sell equation is done. I’m hoping that it is averaged over a long time period rather than real time.

I have no intention of doing any of the install myself. The company that I’m talking to is part of Fortress Power, and local to me. They do have an excellent reputation. But again, I would do my due diligence before proceeding.
They offer 25 year warranty on the hardware and 5 on workmanship.
I’ll be pushing 100 by the time the warranty expires.
And so far they have embraced my geek like questions rather than tolerate them. And I have gotten good answers!
Pop, I've always thought of double tasking a solar array by setting it up high enough and making a carport/shade area out of it. I would just gently slope it ever so slightly for proper draining. I guess I would bias it a bit towards the setting sun's angle.
Raleigh NC --- grew up on Goldsboro NC - Mom still lives there and I go every other weekend to see her and shop with her.. She is 85 now and I just turned the magic 65....
Welcome! Looking forward to hearing your stories.
Don’t drag me into that circus.

Got thrown a curve ball. Well guy estimated $20-25k to drill a water well. I was blown out of the water, pun intended.
He drilled most of the ones in the next subdivision, said most at least 600 -700 feet deep.
I'm glad that you are being very proactive at looking at all the build out costs. I would be worried about all the junkie cars and such at the neighbors. Neighbor drama is bad drama.
77º going to 98º today. First day under 100 in weeks it seems. Saw as high as 113º last week, lots of 105-108 days. Man that is too hot for man or beast.
Hurricane off the Baja coast coming up. Should bring some much needed rain to So Cal, and AZ. Can't wait to get some cooler weather and get back to my projects.
Looking forward to working the road (after it rains) and removing the summer washboard from the main road in with the new MX (y)
so glad you got some much needed rain. Hope for more. You guys in California need a lot of rain.
I was awakened last night with the worst abdominal pains that I've ever experienced! So bad, that I seriously thought about going to the hospital. Lasted about 2 hours, then slowly got better. This morning, the belly and flanks are actually sore to touch, like the areas are bruised. Seems like my entire abdomen was in a bad muscle spasm....
Definitely strange, no gas, no diarrhea, no vomiting....
Wifey had a similar issue / pain on Tuesday, just as intense.

I'm going to hold off on working on the Jeep until maybe this afternoon... I don't want to aggravate the abdomen and have to experience that pain again.

Hope everyone has a great day!
Glad your pain has ebbed. Hope it doesn't come back. The fact your wifey had a spell of it makes me wonder if it was something y'all ate or a contagious bug?
I PMd Eric back in May and did not hear back. :-(

I will be in London next week, it may be a bit depressing.
I was in London for Princess Diana's funeral procession many years ago, I have many friends there and co-workers.
Our meetings today all had the news going in the background....
The queen has stayed above the hoopla, and been the quintessential leader. Her sons, not so much.
Good Morning
It’s 58 with a high of 82 under sunny skies today.

Yesterday was a great day to work outside, but I didn’t get much done. Some more research on the solar array and siting it in a place where it would pass the wife’s aesthetic test and function well. It seems that those locations might be mutually exclusive.
Got some questions answered, I was surprised to learn that the feed from the array to the inverter was 1000 VDC. I was expecting much lower, and that the inverter would be near the array with a long AC feed to the grid, but it’s the opposite. High voltage DC for the long run.

Today will be some more outside chores, have to unload bags of grain and fill the bins, need to load wife’s car for the farmers market tomorrow, first one since her surgery. They will unload it and help her set up, we’ll see how it goes.

I can identify with the thin skin of an old man, by my issue is with tearing more than bruising. After I finish working on something, I usually have to wipe the blood off the tools and the project.

The little nick on the right hand is an artifact from Drew’s Gravely a week or two ago. Not sure what got the left hand. But this is typical of what they look like.

It’s a good thing that a bass keeps my fingers well calloused, or I’d have shredded fingertips as well.
Those look like some very experienced hands. And knowing your abilities, they are put to good use.

m7040....The mortgage company got involved because of the dollar amount. A few other claims from the same storm came directly to us. Was hoping the same for the big claim....unfortunately no. Our property took a pretty big hit. Seven damage assessments. Each with their own dollar amount.
Still waiting for the grass to dry out here....all fueled up and waiting....lol.

Roy, my wife broke the ankle a while back and that was hard to recover from since she also was due for knee replacement on the other leg. She had a stint in a nursing home to recover and while I was modifying the house for downstairs living. Also installed wheelchair lift in the Sprinter van which came to good use. She has now recovered after the knee replacement as well.

Scootr, I have friends near you just moved one town over from Temecula, right on the border.

This looks pretty good...
Reckon it's time to get my butt in gear...backyard is still too wet to mow, and I'll be checking the rest of lawn (especially where the chipper is) before I actually start work

Will be interesting to see who shows up for Queen's funeral.

Trudeau will show up, merely for the photo op ... he should have someone else go for him, to send Canada's respects

Scaredy, I've never been a Chevy guy, but always liked that Nova.

I've always been a Chevy and Honda guy, but forever have wanted a 2 dr 1965 Ford Fairlane :)

Tomatoes again on the menu. Love tomatoes but.... mixing with smoked salmon and ham makes it better. Wonder what she will try next to continue the tomato dishes?

Good morning! Low of 55°, going for a high of 82°, good chances of scattered t-storms. One came across last night around 22:00, good flashes and rumbles, but not really any rain. Nothing in the gauge this morning and the walkways were dry...... at least it's maybe a start?

Wng, beautiful pics! Looks like you had a good hike. Hope the insurance finally gets straightened out.

BEF, sorry the bid was rejected.... that's what you were hoping for...right? Sorry for my confusion......

Thomas, did the critters go by like in a parade? Just sounded funny....

Scootr, glad you got some rain and it held the fire at bay.... hopefully rain will continue without any flooding.

M7040, nice pics of your place. Beautiful historic buildings / barn.

So far so good this morning in regards to the abdominal pain.... it was by no means as bad yesterday than the first episode. Subsided by the evening, no issues last night....actually slept pretty well.

Today's agenda includes taking the transfer case apart and starting the rebuild process. Hopefully it will simple and no further parts needed than the bearings / seals. Need to clear a bench for good work surface. I have been placing all the tools that have been used for disassembly on the bench in preparation for reassembly..... I guess that isn't going to work like I was planning.....

The nice thing about this job, I'll be able to sit whilst doing it.

Everyone have a great day!

miss Toppop when I think of cars....Scaredy you have big shoes to fill on the car show beat. Keep up the good work.
Pretty sure we all love pics of old cars.

I'll do what i can, but it's impossible to fill those shoes ... or even try.

Good Morning
It was 58 when I got up, going to low 80’s. Another clear sky day.

Yesterday went by quickly, stayed busy mostly doing chores for the wife.

Today started with the landscapers that she hired to trim shrubs and clean up all the beds. I’m thinking they will be here at least all day. Depending on how hard they work, might send them out on fence lines with a string trimmer.
Wife was clever enough to hire them and leave me here while she went to Farmers market.

My Tempest weather station was not holding a charge very well after several overcast days, I asked them if that was normal and they said no, UPS says a replacement is arriving today.
Can’t beat that for support.

Good Morning!!!! 78F @ 8:00AM. Partly cloudy. High around 95F. Winds S at 10 to 20 mph.

That's some rare good news on the Fairview Fire, Scotty. Hope you're soon back in your home, if you're not there already.

Up here the Mosquito Fire blew up overnight and is now over 30,000 acres. It threatens the towns of Forresthill and Volcanoville, and there are Mandatory Evacuation Orders issued for hundreds of people. Smoke from it kept me inside most of the day and it looks like more of the same today. Solar power production was down about 25% due to the smoke as well.

Thursday I spoke with someone at the rebuilders that are supposed to be fixing an engine computer for the van, but only ended up leaving voicemail for a manager. No return call, but yesterday I did get an email with a tracking number, so it looks like it's on its way back here. They've had it a month...

Reviewed some security cam video and learned that a skunk has been hanging around up at the front gate, and someone has been driving down the old boat launch road in the wee hours of the morning. Don't know what they're up to down there in the pitch dark, but they're not staying long.

This morning there's video of the skunk passing by the pump house, so it looks like it's game on for trapping and killing it.

Will hopefully get some garage time in this morning and get the red G/S back on its wheels and off the lift.

Hope everyone has a good weekend...
