72F and partly cloudy @ 20:30, the rain forecast keeps getting later and later but it's still 100% chance.

Refilled and rebaited chipmunk traps.

Hopper feeder refilled and included a little extra "cayenne surprise" for the squirrels and chipmunks ...

Also refilled nugget feeder and put it out since we are out of suet, forgot to put out a new orange half however.

Guy that delivers our softener salt showed up (first Monday of the month) and while trying to back up near the house (and miss my van) managed to put his two left rear wheels into the circle and ran over half of one of the peony plants out there ...

I managed to more or less keep my cool but suggested that maybe next time (assuming there is one) he might want to get out and look or - here's a novel thought: ask for some help/direction while backing up.

Hard to get too mad at him though, since where I had parked the van was a factor - and he was trying to avoid hitting it.

Got all of the lawn down here around the house mowed.

Spotted another volunteer redbud tree over where we took out the others last year. Also (re)located the two I saw last year over by the pole barn behind the east planting bed.

We got the containers for the safflower, sunflower, peanuts, and nyjer seed moved out of the basement up into the garage. Woman scrubbed out the container for the cracked corn (dead mouse) and brought that up later.

She also hosed out a garbage can that we used to store sunflower seeds in the shell. That will go back inside tomorrow and be used as trash can in the basement.

After all that I headed up and got another 1/2 dump cart load of screened compost and brought it down and made up around 3/4 of a tote of potting mix.

The plans for the planting and weeding I had for today went largely out the door.

The Woman however fared much better in the planting and weeding departments:

She had picked up some petunias while She was at the grocery store today and got some of those planted in one of the containers that has an elephant ear bulb in it that has not come up yet. It may be DOA like the other one that didn't come up.

She also got a bunch of weeding done on that northwest planting bed where She was sure the deer had eaten all the hosta (and rhododendrons) while I was mowing:

There was some suggestion at some point about trimming some branches, specifically a low-hanging one on an oak tree over underneath the power pole that I've been hitting with the ROPS on the Cub.

So I got out the HT101 Stihl pole saw and had a little workout with it fully extended ... which is always a treat.

By the time that was all over, She was like "What have I started now ???"



One trip up with the weeds She had pulled to the compost pile + plus trimmings to the burn pile:

Second trip up for the remainder of the trimmings.

After I dumped those I unhitched the dump cart and went ahead and mowed the compost/wood lot since it was getting long and needed it.

When I got back down to the house I found that She had put everything away, including the pole saw which is awkward for Her to handle due it's weight and length.

She made a pot roast for dinner today and it sure hit the spot ...

90% chance of rain within in the hour.

Work is progressing. we have a nice, rarely used Mitutoyo CMM at work, as well as other nice Mitutoyo QC equipment. I'll be glad to get my HR work done, so I can start learning the equipment.

Good arvo. The overnight low was -1.2C and it's struggling to stay at 11C for the high. Fairly clear sky with a breeze from the South = cold Antarctic air.

Quick trip into town for a Doctor's appointment; nothing serious, just a regular blood test required, which I'll do tomorrow as I really need to hydrate prior to giving a sample otherwise my vein(s) collapse and Sister won't get anything. Thankfully it isn't a 'fasting' blood... I hate those.

I also stopped off at the Post Office and mailed a birthday present off to my best friend.

Mostly 3:30 is the time the Kubota and Trailer is available - the CA employees stop work for the day. A lot of the people in the neighborhood have never worked in the 100 degree heat and don't understand that 50% of the work time is needed to cool off and rehydrate. I got a call about 3:00 after not responding to the e-mail, just told them it's too hot to work. At that time it was 101˚ but it did drop to 100˚ by 6:30pm.
I played cards in the AC room. lost 4 of 5 hands - one of those days.

Today is the coolest day for the next 10 days.

Bird that is scary when the power goes off in this heat. My neighbors AC broke last week and the repair man could not get to his house to check it out for 5 days. They just stayed in a hotel in town - and it was just in the 90s last week. His AC was repaired and is working now.

Got subs on the way home...left my laptop at work so I'd have to go in. It was a rough drive in and most the day...well, I sure as hell wasn't 100%...more like 60%-70%...but I made it.
Ate ½ my sub (which is normal), finished the yard mowing outside the fence. Margeaux was outside (in the fenced in area) and she is one hard-headed dog. She'll come in when she's good and ready. Since she's mostly Pyrenees, I think we need some sheep she can herd...
I'll get the rest tomorrow, if all goes well...

58 going up to 80 today in clouds and sun, rain later today around dinner time.

got up this morning and my wrists were so swollen from all that mowing yesterday I could barely pick
up a full coffee cup. Hmmmm, better reduce my hours next time. Felt ok mowing, but as usual there are paybacks.

Potatoes are flowering like mad, means little potatoes starting to form.

Thomas, do well today.

Good morning! 76˚F before sunrise heading to 100˚. Maybe a Costco run today, maybe some pool/gym time. The run of hundred degree days is early this year. Good thing I finished the yard yesterday before it got to 90˚.

I've never starred in a book before, but the BIL who did my avatar here has made a second children's book for his grandchildren.
His creativity using limbs as tractor or loader parts is really fun.
On my avatar I was the loader. Now I have very long legs and good feet.
BIL has never owned a tractor, but he knew by now he had to have a weight box in back.
book is about tractors and construction equipment coming to life and doing a good deed.

Good Morning.
It’s 65 and going to upper 70’s with a better than 50% chance of rain later in the day.

Yesterday was a perfect day here, but I ended up traveling to Marsh Harbour with stops in Newport News and Stuart. Lots of pop up thunderstorms and showers, although there was a shower 5 miles away, it was nice at the airport.

Going home, I was happy to be well to the east of Florida.

We cleared Customs in Wilmington, NC and then continued back to Philly. A quick stop at Burger King, and made it to the Oddfellows meeting on my way home.

Today will likely be breakfast with the professor, and then back to the mailbox project.

Went to the BSA Owners club rally this weekend. Turn out was low. But still had a good time. Took the Gold Star and Bultaco. Both got ridden. Seems the GS Speedo needs some TLC. It stuck Saturday morning coming back from breakfast. I had a chance to stretch its legs, needle stuck falling thru 77mph! That was good for bragging rights. Sunday it started to work again, guess the grease is getting gummy in the clockwork mechanism. And somehow a Bultaco 125 Pursang found it’s way into the truck bed. Was almost too cheap not to end up there.

Worked on garden weeds yesterday and unloaded the trailer. Wife worked on some of her landscape projects. Not sure what today will bring.
