64°F and .02 inches rain

Another day that developed a life of its own. A seemingly simple project with Sophie took all morning. Nobody I’d rather spend the time with, but we both laughed about our time management.

Afternoon more as planned. 2 6in poplar boards over $97. Should have re thought that
Nice dinner with BIL.

Mostly and others have asked about the Caretaker. Plan B seems to be taking hold. We have a new neighbor about to start building just up the road and would prefer to be able to stay nearby. Most likely will be 1st occupant starting in Feb. not as caretaker, but his rent could pay for help when needed.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Dad used to bust thru the ice on our springs with a sledge for the cows to have water.
Speaking of ice, I am afraid I am screwed at the boat house. I use a de-icer, which is simply a propeller on an electric motor suspended in the water 5’ down or so to send warm water up to the service to keep the ice on the lake around the boathouse melted. Well, it stopped working a while ago, and I didn’t check it for a week or more. (The last time this happened it was fish that had gotten all would up in the propeller cage.)

By the time I discovered it, there was already a few inches of ice! (BTW, it was
-42°F this morning..) Last time, there was only a little bit of ice when I discovered the problem, so I could break out the ice, pull up the de-icer, and get the dead fish out of the cage. Now, however, the ice is so thick, I may need to use a chainsaw or maybe an ice-auger, and I may have to get a new de-icer ($900 or so).

Bummer

Good morning to all! Low of 18, 34 right now, supposed to hit a high of 47 today. Cold front again tonight, dropping high temps into the mid 30's tomorrow. A couple of snow flurries yesterday, maybe some tomorrow.

Randy, be careful! Sorry to hear about your fall. Hopefully they took care of the ear....

Drew, like everything else these days, delays are inevitable... hopefully not too many more. At least you can blame it on someone else driving....

Speaking of trains, we went on to the "Rocky Mountaineer" train site to check some prices.....Holy Cow! --- $5300 per person = $10,600+
Not gonna happen.... unless lottery comes through. Scratched off the bucket list for now.

I measured for the bathroom shelves... that's it. Didn't feel like firing up the heaters in the shop and moving out the tractor. Went and ran some errands instead. Maybe today I'll get out there once it warms up a bit.

Wifey made homemade chicken noodle soup yesterday, made the house smell really good! Then made homemade biscuits to go with. Maybe that's why I didn't feel like going out in the shop....
It was delicious, round 2 tonight.

TGIF! Everyone have a great day!

I've had to replace a few LED bulbs, too, rip. I went through about three flood lamps in a year on one side of the fixture over the deck. The ones in there now seem to be holding up. I think I just got a bad batch. I had to replace three of the six recessed can lights in the kitchen last summer. All three were on the side over the stove, so I'm wondering if that was a heat issue. Now, the yard light on the pole in the back yard halfway back to the barn is out, or all but a few of the LEDs, anyway. That one I'm either going to have to rent a lift to get to, or hire another electrician to come out and change it. I've been leaning towards the electrician option.

Glad you weren't seriously hurt, Randy.

Got to 19 with an inch of snow and ice. Looking for another inch or so tonight maybe.

My ear kept bleeding so I called the doctor and they said to come right in. So I got there and hurried across the parking lot in the rain. As luck would have it a parking curb jumped in front of me and down I went!
Badly bruised ribs and skin off my arm and couple of minor scrapes. But it only hurts when I laugh, sneeze, cough, move or breathe. Slept in my recliner last night. I’m very sore but not as bad as I expected with the pain level last night. Makes feel like an old man!
Like I've said a dozen times, you're a tough old Tarheel. Hope you feel better.

I can't tell Roy but I don't think so.
which is probably why they cancelled the express train, not enough passengers
and more likely not enough staff.
I'm in a sleeper car so I don't see the rest of the train and I'm sure not touristing down those aisles

went and saw the larger room, if they have one, I'm going to see if I can book it. Biggest challenge is my one suitcase is really too big for this room and every time I move I have to move the suitcase. Larger room is twice the size and has its own bathroom, which might also be nice.

We did the smaller roomette on 1st leg of trip, agree, not that great a sleep. Did the larger room with bed rest of trip. Glad we did, made for enjoyable trip. As for luggage, our attendant was very willing to move between room and the baggage area .

Glad you are enjoying trip.

No clickety clacks but lots of jiggling around. They must have changed engines in the night, some back and forth bumping.

Make sure you are still moving

Was on a late night train in Germany once, there was an announcement in German that we didn’t understand. But everyone else got off, so we decided to follow. Turns out they disconnect cars off the train at night at certain stations, then add them the next day. If we would have stayed on we would have been stranded.

Ugh on the work front, picked up some more jobs, due to retirements. Wife says I should back out, again myself. Kind of agree, just don't like the work anymore. Plus I have not been truly employed in a long while, so going full time is - hard.
.

I got email from someone about a good fit for a job in Reston VA. Paying a 30k sign on bonus.
Still not enough, job description didn’t sound good.

My boss knows I’m about 1 pissed off moment from leaving, so they leave me alone and just let me do my work. a win win.

I might have to see what the government healthcare has to offer if I leave.

Very nice feature my wife and son are linked to mine. If she miss places her phone easy for me to find. Very good detail. Also shows where you are and at home I can see where my truck is

It’s called Find My

And if you have apple air tags it shows where they are. I have them in my tractor, ranger, cars, etc.
