Good morning! Yesterday afternoon did not go as planned. The PT 4 hours after surgery and half below the waist still numb from the block made me unstable with the walker and she failed me. Today 22 hours after surgery and 57 staples holding my knee together I passed PT tests and will be discharged soon PT will come to the house for 2 weeks then I go to the hospital remote PT in the neighborhood for another 6 weeks.
Looking to do Cedarcide in March.
No pain no gain.

From reading your posts about him over the years, I've thought of your dad as a real good guy.

Thanks,
Very nice guy and great sense of humor. Smart, but never got to go to college. Volunteered to go to WW2 and said once he never expected to come back, but he made it. Saved his money while other solders gambled theirs. Came back, got married, bought the farm and did well. Started as a laborer for the county highway dept, worked his way up to foreman. Knew practically everyone in the county at the time. Built pretty much every building on the farm, including our house. He loved raising cattle and misses them now that he doesn’t have any. Hard work is what got him to almost 98 now. He was always bigger and stronger than me.

Looking across the valley from my window this frosty (6 degrees) morning. Neighbor's machine shop flying the flag.

68°F and no rain

Back to caretaker unit today. Didn’t fully anticipate taking this long a break from it. Oh well, guess I should be grateful I still accomplish anything, albeit slowly.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

RNG, no flaps, but I have considered temp. I left the eave portions of walls open and a narrow gap at base of panels to allow circulation. Also on the list is the possibility of installing a fan or 2 for additional air movement. I have 2 Pv panels to setup independent power from house for the hydroponic pumps, lights, and fans. Haven’t decided whether to stay DC or add small inverter, leaning DC.

I know I'm mentioned before that like most families there are certain Christmas customs around here. One of them is that my wife's mother used to back a bunch of small particular recipe applesauce cakes each year to send one to each family member. When she became too old and in too poor health to do that, the second oldest son in the family and his wife took over that chore/custom. And when his wife died, my wife took over. Now we don't mail the cakes anymore, but do still make them each year because we like them, and our kids and grandkids like them. And my wife's health is such that I try to do most of it. Anyway, the last 3 of the 9 we made today are in in the oven. Sure smells good around here.

Thanks, but my birthday is actually tomorrow. Inn recounting last year, I am going by day of the week instead of calendar day. That is the way I remember it.

Was cold enough to freeze the bird baths last night but warmed up before sunrise to thaw them some...now 42 going to 57.

Don, good news you got that knee taken care of...cedarcide before you know it!

Buppies, "when it rains it pours." Prayers for better health.

Sodamo, greenhouse looking real nice. Fresh coffee and macadamias if I was planting. Hope things go well with Sophie.

Drove down to visit with my mom...She's still so sharp and well for 90. We went walking around the Virginia Beach Farmers Market and Amish Furniture and Mennonite Bakery shop. Found a near perfect dining room table...live edge walnut with a meandering stream of river pebbles down the middle covered by glass to make it level with the wood...only problem with it was the little tag that said $5.5K. It was certainly created by a master, and likely worth every penny. My wife and mom had shrimp and corn chowder at the Princess Anne County Grill. I tasted and was impressed.

I remember when Princess Anne was the county seat, now just another borough of VA Beach.

Very nice 62° with clouds and sun, occasional breeze.
Haven’t done much today, got the garbage together.

I go to the doctor tomorrow afternoon to hear the interpretation of the pathology report on my leg, it’s a bit worrisome but I haven’t really spent a lot of time worrying about what I don’t control. I put it in the hands of one who can and I go on with life.

I still haven’t taken the mmm off the Massey, it needs full service and blade replacement. I did get the ZTR serviced finally, still have to sharpen the blades.

Don, I hope the knee gets well quickly.
Buppies, I hope you catch a break with your health.

Bird, I'd like to replicate the applesauce cake for my diet, if you care to share the recipe.

Finally at home sitting and running the new ice water machine, it is much better than the ice pac the hospital sent home. Then I'll get strapped into the CPM. Today is probable the worst day for pain, all operation meds have worn off now at 27 hours after surgery.

Don, I know the recipe has been handed down for some years; don't know if it originally came from some cook book or not, and don't even know whether it's a common recipe or not. It may be nothing unusual. It can be made as a single cake; bundt cake, or as three smaller individual cakes as we do. We use three cakes pan that are about 4 inch wide by 8 inch long and about 2.5 inch deep.d And Don, I don't think the ingredients would fit your diet.🤣 But anyway . . . .

Our Applesauce Christmas Cake

2 Cups Sugar
1 Cup Butter
2 Cups Applesauce (canned sweet)
2 Cups Raisins
1 Cup Walnuts or Pecans (chopped)
2 Tablespoons Cinnamon (ground)
2 Tablespoons Cloves (ground)
2 Eggs (Large)
3 Cups Flour
2 Teaspoons Baking Soda

Stir Baking Soda into Applesauce and let stand until ready to add to other ingredients.
Cream Butter and Sugar together. Stir in eggs unbeaten. Add Applesauce and Baking Soda,
then add 2 Cups of the Flour. Add the Raisins that have been rolled in the other cup of Flour.
Add the Walnuts or Pecans and the Spices. Pour into bundt cake pan or loaf pans and bake
for 1 hour in a 350 degree oven.

We used pecans today, but have most frequently used walnuts. And we made 3 recipes using the little loaf pans for a total of 9 little cakes. And we do ALL the stirring with an electric mixer; mostly at a slower speed.

And Don, I look forward to hearing how you'd replicate it to fit you diet; just might be a recipe we'd want to try.
