48F and clear @ 15:00, supposed to hit a high of 52F, not sure if we will make it.
Spent yesterday afternoon planting more bulbs. Got all the Tete-A-Tete daffodil bulbs (around 50) planted as well as the last of the Mixed Daffodils For Naturalizing (another 10 or so)
Still have around 60 or so Canaliculatus Daffodil bulbs to go.
Then it will be on to the Crocus (125 bulbs), Blue Grape Hyacinth (200), White Grape Hyacinth (50), and finally the Striped Squill (100), weather permitting. Surprising the amount of bulbs one can fit into a fairly small area.
No more evidence of anyone digging at the irises ...
Put out around a gallon of whole corn for the deer while I was out there. Need to refill hopper feeder today, possibly tube feeders as well.
Took the trash up to the can at the road with the Cub and the dump cart earlier yesterday and grabbed the mail while I was up there.
Day before I took the recycles up to the can at the road then took a tote up in the dump cart and filled it with screened compost, as The Woman was wanting some potting soil. Also rescued a trash can lid out of the woods while I was up there. Got that cleaned off, will use for the can that holds the peat moss.
Got back down to the house and realized I hadn't considered the weight of wet screened compost, so I had to split that in half, and put half of it in a second tote.
Put the new bale of peat moss into a garbage can and transferred what was left into the two storage totes I put the screened compost in and mixed it in.
Knocked the dirt off the plastic planting pots last night, in preparation for cleaning off the potting bench and putting those away.
I extracted the remnant of the broken/rotted handle out of the large, square-nose aluminum shovel (treasure) I got from the neighbor day before yesterday. Had a new handle in inventory that fit, just needed a little trimmed off the end which I did. Ordered some rivets to pin it on on the Menards order. Need to clean up the edge with the grinder. Will make a good shovel for loose material.
Also ordered another handle for the spare pitchfork head, along with three pieces of flue pipe for the woodburner in the basement, more driveway markers (on sale, 50% off) plus a few other items.
Also worked on sanding the handle for the steel square-nose shovel. It will get the BLO/beeswax treatment here shortly. Really like how that worked out on the sledge hammer, it's probably about impervious to moisture at this point and it really hardened up well ... not sticky at all.
Got the exterior of the small bird roost box sanded and stained day before yesterday, used Minwax English Walnut which is fairly dark ... should help with heat gain during the day if there is any sun. Have to install the front door after I trim it up a little to get a good seal. Also need to stain the mounting plate and attach it, along with installing screen on the back interior wall (for woodpeckers)
The Woman reported earlier that the Big Orange Kitty had an episode the other morning where he fell down and was not able to stand/get back up for several minutes, thinks he may have had a stroke. Possible he may have eaten a houseplant that made him sick. Will monitor but he seems fine now.
Both the older cats are starting to have some issues getting around. They are better than 16 years old if memory serves.
Worked until midnight in the garage last night cleaning up.
This afternoon I'll moving some tools back up to the shop and get more stuff stowed away, plus moving another planter inside that still has some stuff in it we haven't managed to kill.
Squeak very happy I brought the planter with the herbs inside:
Hope everyone is having a great day ...
