55F and rain @ 17:30, headed down to 54F for the overnight low.

Managed to get three more plants in the ground - including the Shasta Daisy - before the rain showed up early:

Got a little side-tracked before I got out there though ... after I called The Woman to check in and was greeted with:

"I just got bit by a dog and _______ is on his way to take me to the emergency room."

IMG_1423 copy.jpg

Fortunately, it doesn't appear to be all that serious ... and the ironic part of it is that it was by a "vicious" pug/terrier mix ... that probably didn't weigh but about 15 lbs ...

Moral of the story: People that have dogs that they can't, or won't control, shouldn't have dogs ...

Hope everyone is having a better day than we're having here.

Good evening. 53 and still raining. Supposed to rain tomorrow as well.

Happy birthday BEF.

Got another mess dumped on me Friday. My co-worker who has issues with troubleshooting has been involved with a machine that once started, wouldn’t shut off. He has been dabbling with this one for 3+ weeks. I know he was on the phone for 2 1/2 hours on Wednesday with the engine tech. Our dealer had a tech there Friday. He knew how to read a schematic and use a VOM. We found the problem in about 39 minutes. Apparently a badly corroded engine diagnostic connector didn’t seem important

Retirement is gonna happen end of March. Agreed to stick around to do one final service school.

Did a little bit yesterday. Didn’t sleep Good Friday night. And got up really early. Was tired all day. Got some 110V wring completed in the trailer. Worked on getting a set of bike cases ready to assemble. Then Chinese for dinner. Been a while. Was an early night.

Did the grocery run today. Lots of empty shelves again. Started raining when we got home. Wife changed logos on her work truck. I finished the insulation at the front of the trailer. Then removed some annoying decals on the bike I won. Mounted the seat correctly. Hung out with the friendly goose for a while. He loves quality time with his humans. Wife made stuffed shells for dinner.

everyone stay safe out there.

Thje firewood is in the basement, all of it, finally. It had started to spit rain and I offered Junior the chance to quit, he vetoed that and came went the house soaked. I was in my cab, so other than oiling the conveyor and setting the trap on the motor, I was as dry as a popcorn fart. It is raining harder now.

I have always admired Bertram boats, but they are way above my price range. My 1986 Carver Montego was a good price at 10 grand and before it went into the water I sunk another 5 G's into it. B.O.A.T. = Break Out Another Thousand.
Here's my yacht

Granted, the accommodations may not have been as luxurious, but she was good in heavy weather

got second estimate for right rear rust repair. 800 bucks and he would fiberglass/bondo it and
told me it would last a year or two. He says most shops won't touch rust repair. You either replaced the whole panel or
forget it, labor was too expensive. So 800 bucks for a fiberglass job and a blend in paint job or 1400 for a whole new panel.
On a 2014 truck that is nothing special to begin with, I'm just not motivated to spend the extra money.
New Hope Auto Body, same place prior owner fixed all my family's cars, and boy as teenagers we were seriously hard on the family
cars and our own. I was the worst. Only one to flip his car and total it and walk away with two stitches. Someone was looking after me.
I pulled the steering wheel half way out its splined shaft I was hanging on so hard.
While reading on another forum I came across this thread and thought of your RAM,
How to Fluid Film your truck

Well it's not morning here but I took these pics this morning,
the peak color is a week or so past but we were getting rain storms at that time.
A lot of the reds are gone but still a nice view of the back deck this morning.
A bit cool for coffee out there unless you put on a jacket 34F.

Yesterday was at a pretty leisurely pace. Got the new opener on the most used shop door, now I can check to see if it’s opened or closed from my phone, as well as open or close it. Outdoor keypads will open any door, depending on the code entered. They even have a. Built in battery backup.
.

I have 1 of the 3500 model and 8500 model. Really like them. Only my newer one has the app.

Good Works Tractor also recommended a multiplier (same one you linked to) as a much less expensive way to add rear remotes. I'll price both methods. Which ever way I decide, and if addition rear remotes can be added (normally, this is a factory option and I'm not sure if they can be added at the dealer level), it's not going to happen until after the winter, nor is it necessary right now.
I've owned Deere machines since 2000....pretty much immune to sticker shock by this time!

Would a lane shark work for you?

Wngsprd, We did not use Magnolia pods, we used BB guns and bottle rockets, surprised any of us can see today.

Same here, plus lots of home made pyrotechnics. My wife has often commented that she can’t believe I’ve got all my fingers and eyesight, and most of my hearing.

Back home from my birthday weekend getaway. No internet or phone service most of yesterday, last night and this morning.

Yesterday morning hiked the Blue Ridge tunnel trail.
IMG_2126.JPG

Built 1849-1858, 4273’ long and used until 1944 when a larger tunnel was made beside it for modern locomotives. At one point it’s 700 ft below the surface, which includes the southern end of the skyline drive.

After the almost 3 mile tunnel hike, visited fellow TBN member woodchuckdad, and his house build. He’s the one that told me about the tunnel hike. Had a great visit with him and his wife, and forgot to take any pictures until we were leaving and got his pond.
IMG_2156.JPG

He has a great thread and YouTube channel of his SIP house build. What a nice couple.
Then after getting a great sandwich at a little country store near his house, we started down the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Some areas the leaves are great, other areas it’s still too early. But we saw a lot of great leaves.

This logging railroad stop we make every time, got pics here with the kids when small years ago

We had planned on going to worship in Bedford this morning, and going to DDay memorial. Wife wasn’t feeling good early in morning, so we reset the alarm. Also since no internet, didn’t know how long to get there, etc.
This morning after breakfast we hiked the mile trail around the lake. Lodge from the other side of the lake.

After checking out we drove to check out the campground on other side of lake. RV spots are very small and no hookups at all, not even electric. Then went to camp store at bottom of the mountain that was across the lake, and discovered for $12 each you can ride a bus to almost the top, and it was about to leave, so we hopped on. The kid drove that bus up that narrow road, multiple switchbacks very fast. Once we got out, still had a breathtaking hike to very top. No way I could hike that mountain. This is looking down at the lodge from the top.

There’s a stone house on top.

The sign post said 1.5 miles by trail to bottom. Since the driver scared the crap out of me coming up, I decided to hike down. Made it down in 1 hr 20 minutes, with rubber legs. Part of it was just to see if I could do it, but not the best decision of the day.
Since late in afternoon, ditched plans to go partway back north on the parkway, and took it south, then got off the mountain at Buchannon Va, then took interstate. Missed 3 backups on interstate by jumping off on Rt 11.
Legs still feel weak.
