Speaking of skin, spent a couple of hours at the urgent care facility yesterday...the same one that put 8 staples in my scalp a couple of years ago. I have a >25 cent piece red spot on my bicep from likely a spider bite...got it under an old long sleeve white dress shirt I was wearing while mowing on the zero, running up against a long row of forsythia, etc. I never felt a sting, and had no tick, just a small whelp like the way a mosquito bite starts. It hasn't cleared in 8 days...which is weird for me...I spend a lot of time in the fields and forests so have had hundreds of tick and chigger bites over the years, and plenty of spider bites...never had one transform over the days and be persistent like this.

I was hoping for some magic test to tell me what it was, but got a "doesn't matter" from the doctor and a prescription of cephalexin. She pressed on it and said, "it's blanching, so that's good." Then drew a circle around it with a Bic pen to help me determine if it changes size. Well, I learned what blanching means, and got my first Bic pen tattoo (ink promptly washed off in the shower last night.)

Will keep an eye on it and decide if I will take antibiotics...the treatment can be worse than the ill.

Good Morning.
It’s 70 and might make it to 90 with clear skies.

Yesterday went by quickly, but everything went like clockwork. I got 5 coats of finish on two speakers, and all the mowing done in between coats. I ran the Lazer around the edges and got the big mower hooked up while my helper was napping. By the time he was up and had lunch we were ready to rock and roll.

Today will be in the shop again, Need to get the electronics built and wired, hopefully these will be done by Saturday, and I can relax a little bit before I head off to training.

I never forgot an anniversary, but I can’t say the same about a birthday. That didn’t go well.

Good morning, a clear sky today yet not too hot thanks to a gentle easterly breeze that will keep the thermometers to no more than 20C/68F.

Broadband has been pitifully slow these last few days. Repair man came and swapped over the last spare pair of cores in the cable that runs under the yard. Nice to be able to once again see pictures on here.

Alien, have fun with the ripper, just be careful where you stick it in. I heard they are more effective than a divining rod for discovering unexpected water pipes

Kyle, happy anniversary. Ours is the day after yours, fortunately your memory is much better than mine - your pre-emptive posts have kept me out of trouble more than once, I owe you again this year !

Agree on the antibiotics. I have an old white dress shirt too for sun usage. I typically put hydrocortisone on bites, and if a wasp or scorpion, I'll take/give benedryl.

We'll be under a Fire Weather Watch Friday into Saturday morning; the usual issues with strong winds, high temperatures, and low humidity. No word yet from the power company about a shutoff, but I'm keeping my eye on them.

I once had to argue with a nurse practitioner to get a course of antibiotics for what looked to me like an infected tic bite, Billy. No sense taking chances on a possible Lyme disease case.

Sounds like a good read, Kyle. Read a ton of books on the submarine service, surprised I missed that one. BMW at one time used solid brass float needles, then switched to brass with a Viton tip. The tips still get a ring worn in them and will either leak or stick shut in time, but the seats stay in pretty good shape. And in the Bing carbs, the seat is replaceable.

Work on the grizzly/soil sifter/rock screen went a little slower than I'd hoped yesterday. Tried to speed it up putting on a coarser bandsaw blade, but the last length in the box was too short. Had another left over bit, so patched together a blade with two braze joints. It cut pretty well, once I turned it over so the teeth were pointing the proper direction. The argon/CO2 bottle is on its last gasp, so I may or may not get some tack welds on the assembly in before I go to town this afternoon. The front panel has put on enough weight that it's right at my limit for flipping over by myself, and I'm told by the neighbor he can lend a hand tomorrow. Just hate to see him come down and mostly watch me weld, though. Big waste of his time, and for him, time is money.

Got another couple rounds of pumping water up to the high tank yesterday, but the pressure is still hanging on to about 20 PSI. I haven't gone up to the tank to listen for the gurgle, but I suspect the air bubble is still there.

Another, what is this new flower I have never seen before. Keeping the deer away has certainly led to some interesting finds.

tried to go for my walk but park lawn crew was there and the noise of the mowers was too much on my ears.
So I went downtown and got four pots of mums that came in yesterday, the ones outside the supermarket are usually the least
expensive in the area and if you get them early, they are nursery fresh.
So lugged out the two big black eyed susan plants and replaced them with mums.
I'm going to try to plant the black eyed susans along side of garage in full sun.
Maybe on a cooler day.

then after lugging pots around and playing musical plants, I got out the watering can and
box of Miracle Grow and watered all the new plants with some fertilized water.
And then of course there were a few old plants that I thought needed a little help.
Otherwise things are growing well, that almost four inch rain we got has everything green.
I keep deadheading the zinnias and the roses and they keep blooming.

one more trip out in a bit, to give the humming birds some fresh sugar water aka nectar
need to stop sweating first and get body temp down.
Then ready for another foray out in the heat.
Other than a sore shoulder I seem to be doing fine.

Good morning! 72 now and hazy.supposed to get to 86 later.

RNG & Kyle - I have not read Fluckly’s book, but have read a lot about his exploits aboard the Barb. The Barb has about 6 war patrols and had nothing to show for it. Under the command of Fluckly, it became one of the top scoring submarines of the Pacific Theater, first submarine to launch missiles in combat, and landed the only invasion of Japan to blow up a bridge with a train on it. The boat and crew had a bunch of decorations, but conspicuously absent was any Purple Hearts. Gonna have to find a copy of his book now.

Yesterday was just a go riding the bike day with no maps, no plan, no GPS. Just ride and didn’t even take very many pictures. Here are the pictures I took. Most of my ride was this type of views

Got to go to the butcher shop and pick up 1/2 hog we are getting and put that away, then not sure what I will get into

I was able to complete the additional set of steps off the porch. Wifey is pleased. Today will be drip irrigation on the new landscape bed.... it is getting old hand watering pulling a hose.

Not much else on the agenda for today. I still have to find out if the mulch will be on sale at Lowes for Labor Day.
