Late start to my day, as I overslept.
Saw semi trailer on fire on way to work

Wife was up early and picked some blackberries I told her about back on the hill to the creek.
Ran to Lowe’s after supper and bought some 2x4s ($5.75 ea) to use to help me get the awning off.

Might try that in the morning, not sure. Wife and I are going away for a little trip tomorrow, not sure when we are leaving.

64° out, but humid.

Son finished the mowing, but started late and finished in the dark.

Sounds like good deal on RV Randy.

RNG, prayers you get some weather, and they get a hold on containing those fires. Do you have any water supply stocked up yet? It's sad you have to put up with so much, to enjoy the beauty of your home near the lake. I know you've done A LOT to try and combat/prepare for all the PGE/drought issues.
There was talk of more dry lightning storms north and east of here for Sunday, Kyle. Not the kind of weather we need.

The air was the worst so far this morning, and didn't really clear up. I forgot to close one of the garage doors last night, so the garage was full of bad air, too. I think some of it made it's way into the house, because the air cleaner has been going full blast all day. I did get out there for a little bit late this afternoon and put together the manifold of PVC valves that will finish the pump house end of the plumbing. I'm hoping the air will clear up enough to get out there and install it tomorrow morning. I'll give it a couple hours to set up, then I can flush the lines using water from the well. Then make a call to my neighbor with the tank truck and make arrangements to start filling the big tank.

Turns out he was delivering a tank of water not far from where the Dixie fire started that day. He and the home's owner followed a fire crew and ended up above the fire. The homeowner showed the crew an old trail that went pretty close, and off they went. My tanker neighbor offered them water, but they said CalFire tankers were on the way. Hard to imagine firefighters turning down water, but there it is. Maybe the firefighters figured their tankers would show up before they got the hose lay in, but why take the chance? Anyway, this was eleven or twelve hours after the fire started.

Today there was a story from a public TV station reporter on why it took so long. Turns out the warning message about the blown fuses on the line that got struck by the tree wasn't given any priority, and there was a bridge closed on the way, so the utility repairman didn't see the fire until almost ten hours after it started. By the time he got somewhere with phone reception, firefighters passing on the canyon road had seen it and had already called it in. Even then, it still took several more hours for crews to get to it. To top it all off, a drone was spotted in the area, which caused a shut down of all fire fighting flights. And now pictures have emerged of a Jeep with a drone company logo on it, taken at a nearby store on or about the day of the fire. So it wasn't just one thing that triggered this tragedy, but a fairly long chain of events.

Why is it GM is always inspirational AND entertaining? So much by so many here. Welcome to our recent joiners.

Somewhat a strange day here. Rain is over 3 inches last 24 hours and still coming down. Something of a let up when my neighbor took me to town in his Frontier flatbed to pickup my purchases of the other day. Took a few last minute adjustments. Of course, I had to accompany the neighbor on his errands but small price to pay for his assistance.

Not long after getting home got a call from another neighbor friend asking if we knew a closer neighbor has passed away. She had heard from wife of another neighbor further up road. We hadn’t. Not too surprising as a few years ago when Mike was unexpectedly in hospital on Oahu we were asked not to say anything. Some sort of a heart infection, more questions than answers, but he recovered. Mike since medically retired from teaching but doing quite well and he was in great spirits when we talked last weekend about his son trying to chase down a wounded pig on our property contiguous to his house. Not that it was a problem, he just wanted us to be aware should we see the wandering light. Mike’s daughter just graduated HS this summer. Mike was one of my 1st friends in the neighborhood going back to before we bought the property. So young. He will be missed.

Sorry to hear about Mike, David. Always a shock when so unexpected. Good neighbours are hard to come by so when we lose one, it hurts.

First cup of coffee is cooling. 65° with mostly cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 84° with thunderstorm throughout the day. Get together went well. One of the visitors was a camera buff. We spent and lot of time wandering around my place taking pictures. Looks like today will be a conserve energy day.
Caught this little bird trying to put the twig inside bird house. It would not fit. Finally gave up and found a smaller twig.

David sorry to hear about Mike. May he RIP.

RNG, read this story yesterday about a previous California fire near you.

Randy, RV should be a good one. The V10 will use a lot of gas. But is very reliable in maintained properly. Got a place to store it under cover?

Everyone stay healthy and safe.

Good Morning All.

Edit (0725):
Chores: Dump run, definitely, than see if I can get my ZTR started. Doesn't appear the battery is holding a charge, but it did seem strong the last time (before the hospital stay) I mowed....
