Good morning!!!!

   / Good morning!!!! #131,161
Good morning, ground frozen in a few places this morning. Not a day for sitting outside - although I would make an exception if it was for one of Wng's picnics.

L4N, so very sorry to hear about your DIL. Over the years, I have enjoyed sharing memories of the city where both she and I grow up. If she is up to it, perhaps you could ask, if she could go back in time again to Sheffield, what places would she like to see again ? Tell her in the shop category, my favourite would have to be Redgates toy shop, or to wander around the market, where my grandad would sometimes buy me a small dish of cockles.

Popgadget, when I had a Toyota RAV4 hybrid I was also surprised to see how reliant it was on a 12V lead acid to power up. Only good thing is that it doesn't need the heavy currents to power a starter motor, so even a weak battery should be enough to pull a relay in and get it charging.

Roy, I have never been inside my ego chainsaw, be interested to hear how easy they are to take apart. At least it should be a simple electrical switch, not like the convoluted linkages you find on some 2 stroke saws.

Welcome Weldman. On the positive side, at least your infrequent neighbour is willing to do work, if he likes driving his tractor you may just have to find the right words to channel his enthusiasm into something productive.

Nice to find a forum of like minded individuals.
Welcome to tbn blacktruck, though maybe that should be commiserations if your mind is wired like some of us :)

Good morning. It's a humid 71° this morning and expected high is 82°. The Weather Channel eliminated our 90°+ days this week but .. 89° for Thursday and Friday is still warm.

Seems pictures are working with TapaTalk today. Ugly tree .. gone.

This tree had been dead for years but it had so many "widow makers" capable of serious tractor damage I've just looked at it for a long time hoping for a wind storm miracle.

IMG_3016.jpg

I put the New Holland in low range, 1st gear, 4WD, put grapple against the trunk about 10' high and let out the clutch, at an idle, to prevent shock loading the tree. With almost zero tire spin, it went over.

Today I'll get started cutting it up. Then .. at least three more to push over.

Hope everyone has a safe and productive .. or restful .. Hump Day.

Prayers tho all

"Summer is time to tackle the easy stuff and enjoy the days."

Summer is time for work that can be done from A/C tractor cabs.
No arguing that. I've ran a lot of tractors with AC cabs but never owned one. In no way I would dispute what you are saying. Duly noted sir.

Going to be a nice day today. Thinking of putting the snow blower away and getting the mower out even though that is surely tempting fate. Looking out the front window it looks like it snowed. White cherry blossoms.

A friend of mine sent me these lyrics.

Hard On Equipment / Tool for the Job

Corb Lund

Album Horse Soldier! Horse Soldier!

He's been roundin' off bolts since the age of fourteen
Was that a five eighths or a nine sixteenths?
He's got a metric socket that don't quite fit
Well it'll wiggle just a little but it ain't quite stripped
The safety guard's gone from his grinding machine
He got a stiff paint brush he only kinda got clean
He's the hired man, my neighbor and a cousin in law
He's a jerry riggin' fool, he got the tool for the job

Well it's vise grips for pliers, and pliers for a wrench
A wrench for a hammer, hammers everything else
It just don't seem to make much difference
I sure do like him but he's hard on equipment
I sure like you son, but you're hard on equipment

His corners ain't square and his floor ain't level
And he's always had trouble with the old tape measure
His doors don't close ‘cause the jamb ain't plumb
And he's a Goddamn menace with an air nail gun
They love to see him comin' at the lumberyard store
Fixed the leak in his roof with a two by four
Drilled holes in his boards with the wrong kinda bit
And when they don't line up he blames the government

He got the whole front yard full of fix ‘em up cars
Three don't run and the rest won't start
Everything's fine with his rebuilt motor
Except of course for the couple spare parts left over
Baler wire tie downs goin' down the road
On two bald tires and an oversize load
He ain't never read a manual ‘cause that's like cheatin'
He don't mind a little grease on his hands while he's eatin'
He's got busted up knuckles, his thumb got bruised

You don't think he was talking about Me? Whats wrong with baler wire?

Chris

good morning all.
Welcome blacktruck and weld.man to the group.
looks like a few sprinkles this morning then clearing to around 70.

dropping off leftover onion sets to a friend on way to accountant to pick up my tax returns.
Then probably off to another nursery to buy plants. My indoor plant raising is a serious bust.
Should have remembered this from four years ago when same thing happened.
going to ask Santa Claus for a small greenhouse next year.

Rick, good job on the tree. Nice having a heavy tractor to make it all seem simple, which we know it isn't.
Things can land or fly around in places we sure don't expect them. Wow what a supply of firewood you have.

Chris, great poem!
Bill, we all send you comfort and prayers for your DIL.
Buckeye, nice looking Massey about to go out and make a new garden

Good Morning
It’s 48 and headed to 68 by the end of the day.
Chance of a little rain this morning, but still a decent day.

Yesterday was warm and breezy with 11% humidity, a great day for drying out the ground.
I did get the Lazer out and mow around the house and some selected areas where the grass was taller. Pulled out the 16 foot progressive finish mower and serviced it, 4 gear boxes, 5 driveshafts, 12 tires and more grease fittings than I can count. But it is actually quite reliable and cuts great. At any rate it’s all ready to go now.

I managed to make some progress on the speakers as well, but it was too nice out side to spend a lot of time in the shop.

I’ve got to help a friend first thing today, then I should get back in the shop.

48 going to 82 and sunny. I think I'm getting spoiled.

Pop, that's quite the mower.

Thomas, sounds like your wildlife is getting popular.

BEF, did you save your landscape cloth? Our 6' wide similar material is still in good shape. I cut a lot of holes in it for planting last year...just hope my wife wants to plant similarly spaced plants this year...otherwise???

Warm weather brought in our 1st hummingbird of the year...same date as last year. We've been enjoying activity on our front porch...Carolina wrens have built a nest over our front door, using some winter greenery decorations as a base. Now that the female is sitting on eggs, the male perches on a tall plant and dive bombs "our" favorite chipmunk (Choco) that lives at the end of the porch...the wren leaves all other birds and squirrels in the yard alone, just doesn't like chipmunks.

Took a nice springtime hike among the redbuds, dogwoods, wild apple and wildflowers yesterday and then roasted coffee. Back to the firewood today.

Good Morning!!!! 52F @ 5:15AM. Mainly sunny to start, then a few afternoon clouds. High 74F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
I keep hoping for rain in the 10-day, but so far no sign of it. Hope in one hand, spit in the other, and see which one's got more in it...

Welcome weld.man and blacktruck. The more the merrier!

Funny poem, Chris; funny video too, Paul. Thanks. I needed that! 😄

Biggest lawnmower I've ever seen, Paul. I hate mowin', so I understand.

That's a good feelin' when a problem like that gets taken care of safely, huh Rick?

Got all the downed trees bucked yesterday, and I'm probably still shy of whats needed to fill those last three pallets. But with the ground in the wood yard clear of trees, but covered in sticks, it was time for a little clean up. Opened the grapple all the way, then back dragged with the lid tines, floating the FEL so it would follow the contours of the ground. Made a nice line, then used the short tines on the bottom to push it into a mound, grabbed it by closing the grapple, and then on to the burn pile. I was surprised how clean the ground got, and really happy I did it all from the comfort of the tractor seat. My back was even happier.😄

Looking for more wood, I couldn't help but notice all the dead standing manzanita in that area. It's been dead almost three years now, and is all bleached to gray, giving the place a kind of haunted look. I love manzanita in the wood stove, so I figured it was time to try out the root part of the root grapple. Eased up to the first one with the tines digging in, felt a little resistance, and out popped the bush, root ball and all. Broke it up a little so it was easier to grab, ran the root ball over to the burn pile, and started a new pile for the rest of it. On the next one, I just grabbed the root ball end on, then curled it so the bush was standing straight up, maybe 20' in the air. Ran it over to the pile for later processing with the chainsaw. Kept on going for an hour or so and cleaned up about 4000 square feet of ground I couldn't even walk through before. That grapple just paid for itself!👍

Got a fair sized burn pile now, but we'll have to see how the wind blows before I fire it off. There's a little poison oak in it, and I wanna make sure the smoke blows in a safe direction.

Happy Hump Day, folks!

Doesn't look difficult to take it apart, but troubleshooting electronics is not a skill I possess.
I'm hoping it's just gunk in the trigger/trigger lock assembly

62°F and partly cloudy this morning, going up to 79° today. We hit 84° yesterday. Some storms taking their time moving towards us across Missouri should arrive sometime this afternoon.

Saw a sizeable white cloud of something at one end of the pond last evening. Walked out to see what it was, and found some of the petals from the blooms on our ornamental apricot trees had blown into the pond and congregated at the west end.

I had thoughts similar to many others here, David ... the things you see when you don't have a scoped rifle in your hand.

Nice work on the dead tree, Rick. I surely would have hated mowing anywhere near that thing.

That certainly is some mower, Paul.

Mornin, raining here, works for me as they put out a warning yesterday for wildfire watch.
Got 5 beds raked, still quite a few to go, but maintaining them better last year, means less raking now.
Was three dump carts full for all 5 beds, last year it was 6 for each bed.

LCR-don;t you love when a tree does the expected. That area looks real nice after the cleanup
Paul(PopG) no thats a mower!
