Nice and balmy 68° out at the moment. Had a rough week end and hoping today will be much better.

Neighbors wife passed away Friday after a year long fight with brain cancer.

Then yesterday we were out walking our shepherd when the neighbor across the streets, Yorkie they had just rescued a few days prior decided to go into kill mode. Left their front step and came across the street after our shepherd. We tried everything in our power to keep that darn dog from getting into the reach of ours. I actually had our shepherd by the collar at that point keeping her head up. Trying to sweep the Yorkie out of harms way with my feet. Well the Yorkie came back in and jumped.

Long story short, the Yorkie didn't make it and the neighbors wife is upset. Everyone was traumatized over it.

Fired up the smoker about 8am. Got a mixture of of hickory and mesquite firewood in it.

Got two 7lb chuck roasts on there for pulled beef. Roasts have been marinating for two days in a mixture of A1, Worchestershire sauce, and soy sauce.

One of the roasts is gonna get sent to the neighbor whose wife passed, along with some seasoned taters, and corn on the cob.

RNG, do any of your motorcycles require premium fuel?
No. But one of the conversions I do on all the BMW twins is installing high compression pistons, and to prevent detonation, an additional spark plug in each cylinder. Runs fine in everything I've put in it, including Mexican gas poured from a Jerry can through a cheese cloth strainer. 😄

Good Morning!!!! 54F @ 7:15AM. Sunny. High 78F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
The 10-day is calling for showers next Sunday, but less than a tenth of an inch accumulation. Water districts are starting to announce drastic cutbacks in water allocations, and the farmers aren't happy about it.

Very nice weather here yesterday, no wind, mild temperatures, perfect for spraying herbicide. Got done what I needed to, but the Kubota side-by-side has a coolant leak somewhere and it overheated twice. So no real progress on the ToDo list.

I did get the rest of the hoops welded up, but none installed on pallets. Had to run into town for a 4 hour CCW course and qualification. That didn't finish until 9PM, which is my usual bedtime. That made for a long day.

PG&E inspector was a contractor, real nice guy in his mid 30s, living out of a motorhome with his wife and two kids, going where the work is. He didn't give the power line easement a very good grade, it being choked with brush and harboring several trees that could easily reach the power lines if they were to fall. Now we'll see if his report will make any difference.

A home a couple miles east of here caught fire and burned yesterday, no word yet on how bad it was. Firefighters responded quickly and kept it from spreading to the surroundings, which are starting to dry out with the lack off rain. It's gonna be another long fire season...

I was putting the tractor away yesterday when I spotted a garter snake slithering across the driveway. It was a young one, but very bright so it must have just molted. Then last night a jack rabbit jumped onto the road in front of me and ran in the headlights for at least a quarter mile before bailing off to the side. Bet it slept good last night. 😄

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend.

Good afternoon, gosh it is windy here today, must have RNG's share. We have all been out in the garden and usually have to drag Max back in from his hunting grounds. This time after being almost bowled several times he was only too keen to come back inside.

Our grandson likes pulled pork too

We are 3.5 weeks past second Moderna shots. Wife got the rash and it’s just fading away now, it was about the size of a baseball. I had a spot about the size of a half dollar for about a week. Funny how the reactions affect people differently.
Thanks for the info. Everything I was reading said the late rash would appear just 8 days after the injection and last for 3 days. The vaccine is too new so I'm sure some of us will experience side effects different than reported by the test group.

The neighborhood's card club, hand and foot, is starting back up May 1st.
And next week the fitness classes are restarting.
Slowly getting back to normal since the Texas unlocking/unmasking 3 weeks ago and the covid cases are continuing to drop.

Good afternoon, low 37 high 43°F. Wind NW 7 mph. Rain.
It is supposed to get down to 12 overnight with snow.

If I am early enough in the morning I can get the cat burried and then plow snow.

For the rest of today...conserve energy.

Have a safe day all

50F, windy, and cloudy @ 13:00, high of only 52F for the day. Sound of the wind woke me up this morning. Tomorrow it will only make it up to a high of 55F ... but at least it will be sunny out.

Looking out the kitchen window this morning as I was putting my coffee into the microwave to warm it up I noticed that even more bulbs are coming up and the forsythia is starting to show color ... grass seems to be greening up as well ... (y)

UPS alarm just went off ... looks like it was only a momentary occurrence.

Unbagged and released fish late night, was too late for any pictures. Fish seem to like new fish food. Need to read up on the banana worms I got, probably also order some yeast.

Plans for today:

Clean up kitchen some ... new toaster made it out of the dining room and out on the countertop, need to get things arranged so the breadbox(es) can be incorporated. Need to read manual for toaster.

Clean up fish room, feed fish, feed white worms. Found out that it's fairly easy to over-pressurize the poly bags when filling them with oxygen ... with disastrous results. Need to take small heater/blower down and see about drying out the carpet ...

Need to write some thank you notes to folks that bought items that were donations for the conservation fund, also record contact info for folks that bought fish.

The one guy who bought three lots of my fish was asking about raising white worms so I handed him a flyer sheet I had made up on it and he handed me a $20 dollar bill ... just to, as he put it, "pay it forward". So I'm going to make him up a proper worm container, fill it with bedding, and see if I can figure how to package it all up with some worms so I can send it to him (he's not local, but not all that far away)

Get the o-ring put on that canister filter and get it put back on the tank in the living room.

Other housecleaning as needed.

Mini-ex rental is tentatively scheduled for next weekend.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe Sunday ... (y)

Good Morning.
It’s 52 on its way to 66. Not raining yet, but supposed to start soon, with a good chance of thunderstorms this afternoon.
Be curious to see how well the Tempest lightning detection works.
Parts for the Davis rain gauge are still not here, so I can’t compare the rainfall amounts yet.

Yesterday’s trip to Hilton Head Island went smoothly, but still consumed most of the day, so I didn’t get much else done. Wife got manure spread without getting stuck, so that’s progress.

Today will be a great day to spend in the shop and make some progress. Maybe even clean up some.

The lightning detection is one of the features we like. Kekoa, our 4 yo Boxer is sensitive to thunder (and gunshots). Being able to give him some melatonin is helpful and the Tempest gives us early warning. 1-2 mg seems to take the edge off his anxiety. Have to get to him before as he won’t take anything once bothered.

to the potatoes to keep their heads down until next weekend. Potatoes are pretty durable though, most will come back after a freeze,
but always wondered if it stunted them some how.
If it will freeze for a day or two just pile some mulch/hay/straw on top of the sprouted potatoes and uncover when the frost leaves. Keep it simple.

The neighborhood's card club, hand and foot, is starting back up May 1st.
From what I've heard, vaccinated people can still transmit CV19, and the authorities are still recommending social distancing and masks be continued. There are also several new variants of the virus, and it's unclear how much protection the current vaccines provide. I can see exercise classes working outside at safe distances, but how do you play cards at a six foot distance?

The only time I had potato sprouts up before a freeze, the freeze made them look terrible, so I just took an old pair of scissors and cut them all off at ground level and they all came back just fine.
