Good morning!!!!

good morning all.
Chilly morning at 17 going up to mid thirties today, with 1-3 inches of snow coming in tonight.

My sister had given me a nice toaster oven for Christmas. Unfortunately I already had the exact same model...
Williams and Sonoma would not allow free exchange, after paying out something close to 30 bucks for restocking, they sent me a
merchandise credit card for balance. I ordered as much as I could from them to use up the certificate; W&S is no bargain place to shop but
has nice things. So I ordered a waffle maker and it came in yesterday. I hope to make some home made blueberry waffles this weekend.

ran out of decaf coffee. Will pick some up today when I run a few errands.

I have until mid March to cancel my cruise reservations with 100 percent refunded. So I have a month to see what the future holds.
No matter what one gets a 100% credit towards another cruise and since I like to cruise, that works for me.
I don't go to cruise floor shows or mix in large groups at dinner. Spend most of my time on room balcony watching the water go by.
No need for masks then. But yes definitely a higher risk environment. First thing I would do, and have always done actually, is wipe the stateroom
touch points down with antiseptic wipes. Always carried a container of them with us.

I started going on cruises 30 years ago winning insurance sales contests. They gave out horrible cheap inside rooms next to the engine.
Sure learned that paying more for a nice balcony room was worth it.

hope you all have a nice day.

Morning. 48 here and rain yet again today. Supposed to rain the remainder of this week and most of next. It's been awful this year. I have to head down to the Myrtle Beach area today to work on the regulators on 2 - 300 megawatt generators.

welcome workingonit, just think you could have all snow like we have...
are those coal fired or nuclear steam generators?

   / Good morning!!!! #127,344
Thanks. They are coal. I installed the regulators on them 6 or 7 years ago. They need some tuning parameters changed so they can run very low VARS at night when they need to. I don't mind going there to work. It's 45 minutes from me. I've been watching all the snow. I think I would prefer snow over the feet of rain we have this year.

35 going to 42 and mostly cloudy.

Ron, thank for taking some snow in the boots for that great pic.

Rich, quite the testimonial from your boss.

Buppies, you might have to catch rain water in buckets for your toilet. When we have a power outage, we use water we've caught in rain barrels, and any we've stored in anticipation. I heard another neighbor running his generator yesterday afternoon...wife brought home lots of groceries and birdfood...so we are ready for whatever falls from the sky...most recent forecast said up to 8" and a sheen of ice...at least no penitentes.

Good morning all. Slightly chilly yet beautifully sunny here. A strong wind has been keeping our big pond free of ice these last few days, making it an attractive place for ducks and swans. Last night the wind dropped and at -5C/23F, it was no surprise to see it had iced over this morning, only the hardiest pair swans have stayed.

She is British and what Brit doesn't put a lot of salt on their fries.

This Brit , no salt on my chips for many years.

I thought the Brits ate chips.
You are right, although a few places like McDonalds sell some skinny things they call "fries". Guess that sounds better than "anorexic chips"

workinonit :welcome:

You sure live in a pretty area, Lake Marion so close by. Am a longtime boater and read my boating articles on how pretty that Lake is. I bet shore homes are pricey.
For two years I helped in the marketing of a small company that installed Schlumberger measurement pods on power production turbines. Have been in many of the East Coast plants, nuke,
coal and hydroelectric. Plus all of NJ's gas turbines running on jet fuel, what polluters they were.
I liked the hydros the best, walking out on Conowingo dam in PA was memorable. My boss was a GE gas turbine specialist who made most of his money selling spare parts
into the industry, but also liked to keep busy with a few installs. He was the EE, I was the gopher and guy with a suit. Fascinating couple of years. Some of the world's
largest machines. Are you working on emission controls or electric generation controls? Just curious what you are "regulating".

I don't think coal plants are going to be around in 20 years, but until they start building nukes again, not sure wind and solar will cut it.
Needs to be a huge retraining effort to get coal workers into other parts of power generation industry. We owe it to those people.
They have kept the lights on for a long, long time...

Voltage regulators. Or the technical term generator controls. AVRs are a niche that few people understand and work on. I've made most of my career out of them. All of my career has been devoted to power generation. I've worked on every AVR in every nuke in the US. most of the GE and Westinghouse coal units as well.

Gotta take off so I'll catch you guys tomorrow.
