Saw my hometown in OH where dad is , gave COVID shots today on first come first serve basis. They had no other plan, no priory. They had a traffic jam thru the whole town. Don’t know how they got word out about it.

Other than that, not much happened today.

18 right now, high about 30 today...

Two days ago, stepdaughter saw a dead raccoon on the lawn. Since I don't walk too well on snow, I declined to move it...yesterday, about 1700, I man'd up and got the carcass. It's in the bed of the truck and I'll dump it off in a wooded area while driving to work this morning. My guess is the critter got hit by a car or truck and either crawled to where it died or was hit hard enough to be flung. There were tracks around, so I'm not sure...not that it matters. The crows were feasting on the carcass and I guess they're going to miss their feast today.

First cup of coffee is cooling. 31° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 33° with continued clouds. Made my Menards trip yesterday. But back was bothering me. Nothing else got done. Going to conserve energy today to give back a little more time to heal.
Sassy went for a walk to neighbors without me. Had to go get her.
Seems both Female and Male Cardinals want to turn their backs to my camera.

Drew, nice sculpture.

Rick, great sunset photo.

David, I am not much help with your cell phone/internet service. Still got 350 Mbps down and 30 up. I did fight it a lot when I was traveling.

Buckeye, vaccines are not available in my county yet for my group. They are saying January 11th maybe.

Don, your chainsaw is getting lots of use.

Randy, updating helps a lot. I have a Tri Band router. I got the latest Modem a few years ago. A Netgear with 1Gbps and DOCSIS 3.1. Got a sperate router hooked to it.

Rich, good that you are getting better everyday. Not going back to work until February tells how bad it can put you down.

Phil, good use for HF scissors.

Everyone stay healthy and safe.

Good Morning All.

Good morning.
32 outside, with a forecast high of 40 and no precipitation.

Yesterday found me at the airport and later at home in the shop playing gunsmith again.

LED lights arrived and are installed. They are a perfect fit, and fit on the OEM brackets, even though they came with stainless brackets, I just used the originals, but did use the new stainless hardware. They’re a lot brighter and whiter the he factory lights.
I would recommend them to anyone looking to improve their Kubots’s work lights. They are Tiger Light brand, but I bought them from Larsen because of Kenny’s reputation for great service.

Larsen Lights, LED lights for your equipment !. TL324 LED Work Light for Kubota Tractors

There are some pretty amazing photographers that post here, some of the sunset and sunrise pictures are stunning, as was the one of the lenticular cloud.

Son did buy the 28” Honda tracked snow blower, supposed to be delivered today, I’m planning to go down and check it out. Apparently Honda equipment is in very short supply due to COVID impacting their major plants in Thailand, India and China. Their US plants make primarily lawnmowers and the GC (lower tier)of engines.

Today should be a repeat of yesterday, vacillating between aircraft mechanic and gunsmith. Might even do some mining.

Good morning all. A chilly -8C/17F here. At least no liquid mud

Wng, hope with rest and plenty of heat from the woodburner it won't be that long until you are back on the trail.

When I first got these fields I noticed the oldest still surviving softwood gates and straining posts were made from creosoted roundwood with a painted steel cap on the top. Those not capped had rotted from the inside out.

The first posts I put in I capped with lead flashing, which I thought was a good way to waterproof them while being very easy to form into shape. Unfortunately woodpeckers soon ripped them open, presumably to get at bugs underneath. With a a few others I used some off cuts of anodized aluminium sheet and those have survived over 15 years so far.

There is a lot of knowledge and creative thinking on here, so as I am about to cap more posts, all 7" to 8" diameter, I wondered if there were any improvements you can suggest. Firstly, if I use aluminium again, it will not be anodized. Do you think allowing this to naturally oxidise in air will give something as durable as those that were commercially anodised ?
Alternatively I can get galvanised steel sheet, which is certainly tough and long lasting, however I find it hard work (unless you have some tips ) to form over the top and down the side of the post.

Also, is there a better way to form the cap for weather protection than what I do now - nailing in 4 places with galvanised nails, then use hammer to fold into a roundish octagonal top ?

OOOH! Painful! Been there, done that. Not fun at all.
Are you going to take it to a bone crusher to fix or just lay on the floor and take life easy for a couple of weeks?

Last time my back went out it took a month to fix it so I could work.

Low 14°F, high 23. Wind N 12 mph. 30% chance of flurries.

A dump run and into town for today. Regular gas in town is $1.129/L or $4.27/US gallon in Canadian money. Today is going to be expen$ive. The Jeep needs filling up and it is a 94L tank.

Have a safe day all

Good Morning!!!! 43F @ 4:00AM. A mix of clouds and sun. Areas of dense fog. High 58F. Winds light and variable.
Chance of showers for tomorrow, but no more rain in the 10-day. The drought is back on.

Disgraceful violence in DC yesterday. Dark day indeed for our country.

Sorry to hear about your backs, Ron and Bill. Please show me which door to use to get out of this club!

Ever thought about selling your bird feeders and houses online, Drew? Maybe donate any proceeds to a local food bank? I had an elderly uncle that used his Shopsmith to make artist's easels in his spare time. He'd do a couple a week, just enough to give him something to do, and he sold them by word-of-mouth. These days, places like Etsy make the selling much easier...

No snow, Chris, Mother Hubbard's cupboards were just getting a little too bare for comfort. But if I can't have rain, I'd take some snow. Long as it's not so deep I'd need to borrow Drew's new Ariens snowblower!

There was some rain here yesterday. Very little rain, only 0.04". Drove through a nice shower on the way to town, but it only lasted a few minutes, just enough to wet things down for a while and leave a few puddles.

Returned the wrong sized bolts to TSC yesterday, but instead of just handing me the right ones, the gal weighs the wrong ones, then weighs the new ones, and because the new ones were 1/2" and the wrong ones were 7/16", she charged me another buck and change. It's bad enough I had to go back there to straighten the mess out they created by not policing their bolt bins, when I priced the same bolts at True Value, they wanted almost a buck a piece! Amazon, here I come...

Swung by the motorcycle shop yesterday and picked up the parts I need to finish the transmission rebuild and learned that two of their guys had been exposed to CV19. Their tests were negative, but they self quarantined anyway. That left only two mechanics there to run the whole operation, so last week business was by appointment only. This week they had a part timer helping out as well. Still haven't seen the parts I ordered from Reno show up, but I had an email from them when I got home saying they'd shipped. I'll use them to rebuild another transmission I picked up to use as a spare.

Highlight of the trip was finding a 1.75 L bottle of Weller's Pot Still Bourbon on the shelf at Costco. Also wanted to pick up one of those 12 packs of Bounty paper towels, but there wasn't a roll of paper towels anywhere in the store. The did have TurboTax, though, and it was on sale.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!

Good morning! 31 now, may get to 35 later. Might even get some sun late today. We have been in a pretty boring weather pattern lately.

Felt so good I made supper last night. But my wife had to finish it, I was exhausted. Seems to be the worst thing about post-Covid is how easily you get exhausted. Seems to be a common issue. Makes sense now why the doctor is being so cautious. Otherwise, I feel good.

Got the items on fleaBay, already getting bids. Got some more stuff to list, may do that today. Or may reload some ammo, that shouldn稚 wear me out, just sit on the stool and pull the lever. Just have to see what I feel like getting into.

Knock on wood, my DSL has been working good since they finally got the speed matched to the distance I am located from the source. That only took 3 years to get sorted out......

Everyone stay safe out there

   / Good morning!!!! #125,079
it is certainly a small world in many ways knowing I'm waiting for a snowblower this morning and so is Paul's son.
I'm hoping the Chonda EFI engine in the Ariens will approach the performance of a Honda GX engine particularly since I have to use gas
with ethanol in it. Though I admit paying 20 bucks for a can of non ethanol True Gas. I'll put that in to begin with, plus marine stabil, and
if I have to use snowblower this winter, which actually is likely, then I'll refill with premium E10. Since my driveway is perfectly flat, I figured the conventional
lug drive tires would be ok, and easier to turn unit. Trying to figure out how to do this without wrecking my back, which like a few of yours, has serious issues.

I need to get a cover for mine, will look online. Have zero desire to pay twice as much so that I can have Ariens advertise to me and others
with big lettering on their oem cover. Which the salesman should have sold me...a cover along with my grease gun. Lost opportunities.
I love marketing...
Have found that Classic brand makes decent covers. Need the cover to keep my sawdust off it...

Good morning all, 26 going up to 33, sunny?? Looks like we won't get snow til next week.

Wng-hope your back isn't too bad
Paul - mining?
Drew - been using ethanol gas and so was previous owner in mine. Except for replacement carb, the blower runs great. Not bad for 35 year old machine.
Eric - sorry I can't help on the caps. Usually would just make a form and use a press, but don't have access to one anymore.

The news yesterday was sad, DC police management were not on board even thought they had weeks of warning. People died even more sad.

Back to my project and maybe get some Xmas stuff down. Now if only I can convince the wife to remove the ornaments before our tree sheds like the dog.

Stay safe and be well.
