With the generator, Drew, you want to avoid trying to start the engine when household loads are connected to it, as it puts more strain on the starter motor and battery. I don't like to open and close breakers when there's a load, either, since it's hard on the breakers. Sometimes you just can't avoid it, though.
thanks, I would never do that RNG, yes, hard on machinery. Which is why I will start it first and let it warm up, and then switch individual breakers on one at a time. I posted the instructions, btw, on the generator thread here and they all said I was fine, interlock mechanics prevents problems, only one hot input at a time. They also said good to warm up gen first.

Ted, good luck using that 25 percent coupon on something worthwhile, most of the good stuff is excluded...

Out here the HDs will do inter store shipments for free, RS. If you can find someone behind the counter that knows how to do it...:irked:

Yeah ... I've seen that "We prepared to send XXX of Product (Whatever) to Store YYY" on the website ... haven't really explored if it can be initiated from the website just by placing an order.

In any event, I'm not sure I'd want local HD personnel handling the transfer, given that it's tile we're talking about.

When I picked up those 45 pieces of the mosaic at Wadsworth yesterday, there were just two actual (open) boxes which contained 9 or 10 tiles per box ... probably about 2" high ... with the rest of them stacked loose on top ... :confused2:

When I asked the Junior Woodchuck that rolled the cart out where the other boxes were for the loose tiles he initially replied "That's how they come ..."

Ahh, noooo ... I don't think so Skippy.

He was a young feller - apparently new, insecure, and uncertain of his abilities ... given the encouragement the other Home Depot-nistas were offering him.

I told him that it might be a good idea if he could wrap those tiles up with some of that shrink-wrappy stuff - if they had any handy ... so I didn't destroy my newly-purchased treasure whilst loading/unloading or transporting. Which he then did.

The only other interaction I had with him was when I made some innocuous comment about one of the items in my order. It was said in a light-hearted manner, wasn't at all critical - just merely an observation. Just something to initiate a little more repartee.

His reaction to that was "I didn't pull your order." (meaning "I'm not responsible")

Well ... ok ... but WTF ?

All this was after I was greeted and initially waited on by a young, not unattractive, lady with "What can I do for you ?" (which I'm pretty sure was more like a "Whadda ya want ?" in tone ...)

She did the same thing with the customers behind me, that entered after I did.

But by that time, the manager (apparently) of the area - who had observed all this - had stepped in and become involved in overseeing me getting my order. She was actually very pleasant and helpful, offering to bag the small items up and even offered me the free Homer bucket.

That lady was a treasure ... and I hope HD realizes it.

I'm not Ted, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn last night ... but I have found that if you ask the manager, you can often get them to allow the use of the discount coupons on items that they supposedly can't be used on ...

Bottomline: ya wanna make the sale ... or not ?

YMMV ...

;)

RS. That lady was a treasure and I hope HD knows it.

When my wife and I encounter the “treasure people” in a store, we always say the he/she will never last. The other disgruntled/surly/ambivalent staff will see that they get fired/quit/transferred!

'Tis the season, RS. This year the holiday burnout is compounded by the election and CoVid. That shows up in employee attitude and performance.

Another example: Yesterday I went to pick up two things at Tractor Supply I'd ordered on Black Friday. They had both of them, but the order on one had been cancelled because I didn't pick it up within TWO DAYS. I'd called ahead on the day I placed the order to tell them I wouldn't be there for a week, as I was waiting for both items to be available for pickup at the same time. "No Problem", I was told. One item had to be shipped to the store and was prepaid, but since the other item had been cancelled (in spite of my phone call), I had to pay for it. When the gal rang it up, I was charged full retail, which was more than fifty bux more than the Black Friday price. When I asked why, the clerk that was "helping" me said I'd have to come back tomorrow to talk to a manager about getting the discounted price, and there was nothing more that could be done. I explained that there was no way I was going to waste more time making a special trip for something that may or may not happen, especially since I'd already gone to the trouble to make sure there was no problem. I also told him that I've tried to shop online several times there, and not one of the orders went smoothly. I left the item there and walked out. I'm done with online shopping at Tractor Supply, and they'll be a last resort used only when I can't find what I need somewhere else.:muttering:

Yeah ... that's totally gross.

One the one hand, ya have to allow for it being the fault of an unwilling/uncooperative/bad attitude employee ...

OTOH, welcome to Corporate America ... where policies from on high have made employees disinclined to take the initiative to make things right for customers ... assuming they even can, without having a manager override code or something.

I'm pretty sure there aren't very many better ways to lose a customer - perhaps permanently - that to fail to deliver on something one has committed to.

Well we got some more decorations up, there are still more, but we may call it good where it is, a lot less than years gone by, but so is my energy level and interest.

Sunny and warm early, 62° at noon, upper fifties and dark cloudy skies now. They are now saying around 3” of rain with locally heavier amounts and 20-30 mph winds, gusting over 40. Looks like Charlie Brown gonna get wet!

Had my first order from Amazon canceled as undeliverable by UPS, and UPS will be here for another delivery today :confused3:
The madness has started.
Fedex it seems lost our xmas cards, said it was delivered, no proof of delivery to be found, but the card company will send out another batch, unfortunately by Fedex.

I was at HD once where a few of the employees would actually scoot :lightningbolt: to the back room when they saw anyone coming towards them. It would have been funny, but people were getting mad since they could not find stuff.

Drew, the container placement and roofing structure were permitted and passed inspection during the house build.

420 lbs of tile and 100 lbs of thinnest mortar unloaded from the van.

Sadly, one of the tires on the two-wheeler deflated on the first load by the time I made it 12' to the front door ... and I had to move all the rest of it by hand. It's now sitting at the front door while I recover.

Moved the thinset into the garage.

Question on that: the two bags of thinset seem real stiff ... almost like maybe they drew moisture and set up ... though the bags don't look like they have gotten wet per se.

Anything to be concerned about ?

On another note, I checked the tracking on the toilet, says UPS delivered to the store today at 12:04 PM ... and that they are "preparing it for pickup" ... and it will be ready for pick up by ... wait for it ... December 16th.

What the ... ?

:confused2:

Rip, around here the saying is if you last 5 years, good chance you’ll stay. Many, many don’t. Top 2 reasons being too far from family and medical. Parttime would likely negate both.

The B-25 Panchito has been flying in out of the airport most of the day, must be selling rides, they do that a few times a year. South winds so they are taking off over my back property, love to watch those old birds, and no mistaking those big radials roaring!

Ron, our transfer station has what we call a “Give &Take” tent, there is a book area. Sophie has been exchanging books there for years.

Like you and Drew, very aware of changes. Wear my mask, social distance, but you never know.

I suspect it may be quite awhile before Covid vaccination is available individually at Dr ofc. I see more mass type vaccination initially.

The downspouts are just temporary. I still have some roofing panels and plan to use to extend the lanai cover, but will be on a different plane that I haven’t worked out yet.

Rip, there are a couple of things you should know

A) Almost everything costs more.

B) Friends who live on a continent fall about laughing when you tell them how many miles you covered on a "long drive". :)

LOL
For us Costco is on otherside of the island, 90 mile trip one way - been twice this year.
Been a couple years since we drove completely around the island.

My 2019 Ridgeline just passed 5900 miles this morning. The 2016 Pilot has just over 11k.

Me and Marks Workwear up here are having that battle right now. I have the Company I work for on my side as they issued the purchase order for the coat.

BEF, you should have one tractor for every implement. :D
t.

My old neighbor east of me did that, he didn’t like changing implements. Not sure what happened to him. only talked to him a couple times. Guy south of me bought his farm for over$1M. Both had more money then they know what to do with.

Well, the predicted snow is back up to 3-6 inches and we actually have a severe weather alert for Saturday morning to Sunday morning...the track of the storm is still uncertain so it could be more...or less. I'd be fine with more!
Doubt I do any work tomorrow (other then the usual Saturday chores...and stash my "summer tires"). If any tractor/snow blowing, it'll be Sunday
