78F and clear @ 22:30, high hit 87F today.

Today was BLT and M day ... had two for lunch, and two for dinner. The Woman got some locally grown tomatoes the other day and they are good ... really tired of eating the half ripe crap the fast food restaurants seem to always serve up.

Started off with some raking over on that west planting bed, then did some more sanding on the auger rack, then worked on and off on filling a 1 1/2" knot hole in a piece of siding with DAP Plastic Wood, a little bit at a time, let dry, repeat ... that's about 75% done, will hopefully finish up tomorrow.

Ran into Harbor Freight to pick up garden hose quick couplers and tarps ... came home with 3 tarps and a foam cushion for kneeling, they were out of the quick couplers ... Dropped off two sacks of papers in recycling bin at Lockwood UMC on way back.

The Woman was watering and weeding that west planting bed when I got back. While she was doing that, I worked some more on the area where the bee extraction occurred on the back wall of the garage and pulled a few more nails whose head had been cut off. Got the sections of underlayment that had been removed caulked up and put back in place. After the bees were removed that cavity was apparently taken over by wasps of some sort ... the nests I pulled out of it were pretty impressive ... will try to get some pics tomorrow.

After that I gathered up another bucketload of sticks, leaves, weeds, and debris as she had gotten quite a bit done and hauled it up to the compost pile and spent some time up there, incorporating more grass in the pile and turning the old pile. Gonna be a bumper crop of compost this year ... :thumbsup:

When I quit I swung by the sparrow trap and grabbed it and brought it down to the house to clean up and reset. Once I got down here I went ahead and filled up the bird feeders again ... seems like two days is the most I can get out of them before they are empty again. Also baited the live trap and set it out.

Finished up by hauling two bags of softener salt and a bag of sunflower seeds around back and put them in the basement, then threw another layer of Plastic Wood in the knot hole before I came inside.

Yeah ... she was not entirely happy about it.

The trick will be to get it on her again and then take her outside for a walk ... and she if I can get her to associate it with going outside (something she's always looking to do)

BEF - glad you were able to get things going ... :thumbsup: Ya got me reconsidering whether the battery might be the issue here as well ... :laughing:

Drew - glad you were able to have your get together ... beautiful view.

Roy - your genny problems sound similar to the issues I was having with the 8 hp BS on the Trac Vac. Ended up being goop in the carb from bad fuel IIRC. I'd just take it apart and clean it out as a starting point if it had ethanol fuel in it and it sat for any length of time.

Guys, thanks for all the tips about the genny. I think you're right about the need to rebuild the carb. I do have a couple other things I want to try first

Roy, what has worked for others is getting a bottle of Sea Foam and a spray bottle, take the air cleaner off, and after starting, spray the Sea Foam into carb pretty heavily,
should smoke or even gag a little, but it could clean out clogged jets for you. Unless you have an inline fuel filter that is clogged, this is usually the quickest and easiest way to ungunk a carb. Plus it's very concentrated and not diluted like adding it to your fuel. I've used SeaFoam in my machinery and cars for years, plus E0 and all the old problems disappeared. Interesting that Marine Formula Stabil is highest rated, I think that's because of extra condensation in fuel tanks in marine environment so they must have a stronger formula in that version. Motors that don't start sure are aggravating...

72 going up to 89 today with normal scattered afternoon thunderstorms.

Good morning all. The weather is set to break into thunderstorms this afternoon, but it has been very kind these last few days, allowing everything to be done in the dry. Hay barn is just over half full, with one field still to cut.

A friend dropped off some some old local maps and documents yesterday for my wife to ponder over. It gives names to individual fields that go back well over 150 years, before many were cut in two by the railway. We know of one name that has been passed down by word of mouth, a hay meadow called "The Slang". Wng, are you leaving some clues so that generations to come may one day have fun trying to identify your ancient "Frisbee field" ?

Drew very nice place to sit out. Could only be bettered if holding a fishing rod. :thumbsup:

Decided to catch one of the lizards last night to start getting them used to being handled, and Tasty wasn't happy with that at all. ... Smart lizard...

A smart lizard is captured by a huge meat-eating creature that feeds her up and then calls her "Tasty" - no wonder she is wary of your intentions RNG. :laughing:

Coffee is done brewing. 70° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 88° with slight chance of thunderstorm in late afternoon. Got started on a long needed project painting outside frames on 10 windows. Plus some other trim. Got 2 of them completed yesterday. May get stared on other 8 today. Neighbor had some older office cabinets out front. Normally scrapers come by and pick them up. This one was setting out there since Thursday. I thought I could use if it was still there this morning. It was. 42" long X 20" deep X 30" high. It must weigh over 100 lbs. They do not make them like that any more. Tractor to the rescue. Parts storage in pole barn.

Got outside early this morning cut down dozen limbs before sun broke thru the fog,I don't think momma turkey and her little ones like that much action all at once.
Plans for today...mostly stay low and cool some puttering.

Sounds like you two had a nice dinner, Drew. Now I understand why she has issues with flooding, though. I love vegetables, but my mother could absolutely murder lima beans, and to this day just thinkin' about 'em makes me retch. :yuck:

Surprised to hear of an earthquake in North Carolina, glad no one was hurt. A 5 is just a gentle rock, but it does get your attention!

1095 CV19 cases in the county now, 128 in isolation, 8 in hospital, 8 deaths, and 959 recovered. It looks like we reached a peak the week of July 14, and have been slowly tapering off since then. But we're still above the governor's threshold for increased monitoring and restrictions. Too many people still scoffing at the mask and distancing edicts.

Hate to jinx myself, but I haven't noticed any yellow jackets for a few days now, so maybe the bait station has done it's job. Used a dollop of cat food for bait, and by now it's probably dried out, so it needs checkin'...

The hummers are slurping up a gallon of nectar a day, and I'm seeing a lot of young birds at the feeders. Nice to think I'm helping to raise the next generation of the little devils.:laughing:

Decking on the firetruck is done, still need to move it to its parking place and reinstall the cover and tarp, though. Grading took a lot longer than i'd have hoped because I ran into more rock when I tried to cut the pad more level. Still off by a degree or three, but I'm hoping I can fix most of that with gravel today. Got a delivery notice for the suction hose, so I'll get the gate open this morning in hopes they'll bring it up to the house.

Pecked away at the Dream Machine problem, and eventually found the magic recipe for updating the firmware. That got it online, and it's now acting as a secure gateway for the rest of the system. Also got one of the Unifi access points going, and one of their little security cameras. Now I'm running out of excuses for staying out of the attic, so that might be how I start the day.

Got some more comments on a thread I started on a Vanagon conversion forum that have me thinkin' I need to have a conversation with the fella that wrote the smog rules about vehicle classifications. It seems they have their own set, and it's only available by request, in print. And it seems to change as people figure out new ways around the rules. The one that's giving me problems came from somebody shoehorning Corvette engines into Jeeps, then loading them up with performance options that wouldn't meet the emissions criteria. Seems like they could save everyone a lot of grief if they just required a tail pipe test and an evap test and called it good.
