RonJH- It pays to have a sense of humor in times like these even if Wifey goes under the bus. I can kind of understand why she used a fork, but I have yet to make sense of the oven mitts, and napkin that she left behind in the garden.... She picked the wrong garden for a salad. Oh well. I really have a hankering to get a taste of that smoked ribeye steak at that nearby restaurant who do serve outdoors on weekends and may now have limited indoor seating and they have a really large unused dining area.

Good luck with the BP meds. Stainless steel tableware works pretty well in sandy/silty loam. ;)

Jay, in all seriousness, I hope that you and Peg are able to figure out a balance with her and the meds. As you are aware of the consequences of stopping "cold turkey ".

On the lighter side, I have this mental image of you standing at the backdoor, look of confusion, saying to your yourself "what the .....?"
I cannot help but wonder what you were thinking.... hang in there... you will get this straightened out...

Even though I live above Lake Oroville, it's way to far away to draft from, and the water level would be at least 100' below the pump. Not to mention the fine if I got caught.

Looking a little closer at the smaller of the two suction lines (the one marked with a "2" near the bottom of the panel, the one without the valve handle on it), the locking collar is marked 2 1/2, and the documentation references 2 1/2" discharge and suction valves. Just not sure at this point if that smaller line is for drafting or discharge.

:welcome: Tom! I also tried moving the various valves around this morning, and some are very stiff. I wonder about using petroleum based lubricants on them, though. Do valves of this type use o-rings, which might be damaged by such lubricants, or are they more likely to have old fashioned string packing in there? Wait one, the maintenance instructions do mention o-rings, and suggest Dow-Coring "Valve-Seal" as a lubricant. I'm thinkin' I'll try a little aerosol silicon lube first, being as how that would be easy.

Thanks for the guidance, folks!

More Homework!

RNG .. a suggestion would be to take very detailed pictures of your controls, inventory everything on the truck, hoses, adapters, tools, etc and pay a visit to your local fire department. They can be a wealth of knowledge and will likely enjoy getting you started. They can also help you resource anything you need or are missing. They can be very helpful on maintenance procedures and repairs. If it's a VFD they might even help you out with some of their excess adapters and such. It's a good relationship to develop.

You likely have 2 1/2" and 1 1/2". For your needs it will be the 1 1/2" especially since it not feasible for you to use the 2 1/2" on your own. Even the 1 1/2" is a handful at 100 psi.

In our ops, the 2 1/2" is a 4-5 man operation. One man running the pumper controls, one on nozzle, one supporting nozzleman against the pressure, and one or two men handling the hose. We swap positions on about 10 minute intervals.

Good evening all. 77F for the start, few stray clouds, light breeze. Moderate wind day, sky became partly cloudy and high temp 94F , feels like 106F. First off thanks for all the birthday wishes and thoughts, have passed 3k miles but 50 mile behind pace so far. This morning did work on wood pile. new vent worked on chainsaw, and got the last wood split and stacked, now need to finish kindling. Cleaned up for dentist visit, they were behind when I got there, but no warning prior :( teeth and gums all ok. Shopped while in town then home for nap and tried out new wet/dry vac and put together new roller stool. Then dinner and back home.

Ron, I wanted to ask you more about the McCullogh golf cart. How manycc's/ or cubic inches/horsepower?

Also, thank you for all your nice pictures. I'm hope you are having fun with it.

Dad sent this postcard of Cloverly Harbour England to his future wife (mom) dated 30 sept 1944.
He would have been fighting in France or Belgium by that date.

That is a cool photo BEF.

I try not to be political. But after 244 years. Why do we need new laws and the people that make them.

Sure, all the criminals want defunding to occur. It would give them free reins.

Like all these laws didn't just happen overnight. They have been re-fined, re-re-fined, re-re-re-fined.

Jay- hope the stormy weather subsides.....and the garden grows.

My daughter had a good day the day before. She actually got out of bed, put her phone down, and mowed the whole place, plant some coleus plants, and water the other plants. And I asked her if she felt better, having accomplished some stuff. She said "Yes!"

Thanks for the prayers.

Work air compressor saga. re-hash: it is an Ingersoll Rand 30 hp scroll compressor. when turned on, it will run for a few seconds, and when the scroll starts to pump air, it starts squealing the belt. We procured some more of the synthetic oil/coolant and put another gallon in it. It has a tube on the side of the oil housing to show the level. It has about a 1.5" difference between low and high, which is close to 1.5 gallons between max and min. So it now has about 8 quarts in it. There is an aluminum intake that has a "modulator" valve in it. I rebuilt that today, but it did not fix the problem. We have another control part in stock I may replace Monday just to strike it off the list.

I stayed late to finish making gaskets (cut by hand) for the speedaire. I need to go get some Permatex #2 form a gasket (non-hardening). questionaire: What's your favorite gasket goop? Would love to get the thing running tomorrow, but I need to rewire the main 220v cord. The old cord's insulation was pulled back too far by the previous owner.

Drug to watch - budesonide

Not enough data and peer reviews to be a real silver bullet at this time but sounds promising. Dr. Bartlett has 0 deaths with his covid patients. patients report feeling better after one inhaling treatment. He cites Taiwan's extremly low death rate on inhaling budesonide. Drug has been around for 20 Years and given to pre-mature babies.

YouTube

Very interesting, Don
Thanks

Good morning all. Weather is on the turn for us. The sky has been crammed tight with clouds for quite a few days, this morning a few gaps are showing. Can't be long now before a gap coincides with the position of the sun, maybe we will get enough solar gain to keep the matches by the woodburner in the box this evening.

It is 80 years since the Battle of Britain and yet the story is only just coming out that the knife edge outcome possibly only ended in favour of the allies because a 13 year old girl called Hazel was really good at mathematics, which is why Spitfires ended up with 8 instead of 4 guns. London Girl, 13, Who Helped Win The Battle Of Britain - NewsOpener

LS, neat upgrades on your tractor. I really admire the way you always finish projects so soon, it would take me many days (maybe years :ashamed:) to get around to painting with a matching colour :)

BEF, Clovelly harbour in your Dad's postcard is a beautiful place. Unless you have a boat, you can only get to it by walking down a long, narrow and very steep cobbled street, I wonder if he remembers that ? Had a look online and the Red Lion is still there, it has just reopened this week after the Covid shutdown

good morning all
74 going to 93 today
still have moderate headache and upset stomach but can deal with it.

Found out there is a very nice rv campground about five miles away here in Greenville, out in country. Bradford Creek Coach & RV Center
If rv does not sell this week, will consider that as an alternative. At issue is cumulative effect of chemo, and
remaining safe to drive, but if only ten minute trip, should be ok. Rv is pretty small, but so is this assisted living space and
I would save a huge amount of money every month doing that. I've lived aboard a boat for three years so small spaces are not
a big issue, particularly if I have a comfortable seat to sit in. I would need to find a spot for this full size pc, working off a laptop was challenging
though many do it. Bigger keyboard and screen really make things better for me. Siblings think rv life is a bad idea, it's just too unusual for them.

iron and compact ironing board came in from Amazon yesterday, going to be domestic today and perhaps wind up less wrinkly...
otherwise a quiet day
hope your Friday is good and have some fun plans for weekend

Drinking first cup of coffee. 67° with fog this morning. Heading to 85° with thunderstorm in PM. Got another .17" of rain over night. May get up to 1" today. Doorbell/camera is installed and working. Shopping is on list for today. Then back home and stay in out of weather.
Bluebird thinks it is hot out. All 3 of my birdhouses had nest in them. Bluebird, House Finch and Sparrow.

Drew, while my motorhome was larger than yours. Wife and I had no problems living in it for months at a time. But to full time would not be for me. I do not think that is your plan. Go for it. You can always find other accommodation when necessary/planned. I see friends that I met while traveling in ours moving from RV to sick and brick housing all the time.

Eric, great story.

Kyle, glad your daughter is feeling better. McCullough engine were 100cc and had to sell for less than $100. By the time you added clutch, muffler, mount and other accessories it was well over $200. This was in the 60's. I switch to Italian rotary valve engines after a year of the Mac's. Much faster and more reliable. Here is a link to Vintage Karting Association.

Don, I sure hope they come with something soon to help patients.

RNG, good to hear fire engine truck is working. I would have it stored in a building.

LS, good tractor upgrades.

David, still waiting on my Federal tax refund. Story is it is on the bottom of the pile of people that sent their paper tax return in after me.

Jay, sure hope Brogan got his bath.

Everyone stay healthy and safe.

Good Morning All.

77 outside this AM. I'll let you guess at what is next - yep....into the lower 90's again.

Things have started wilting. And long range forecast (for what it is worth)....10 days of mid 90's.

I have and will retreat to front porch duties for the next few weeks.

I need to make a trip into town, to go get my taxes. I owe...nothing new, but the disparity between the Fed and my State is so huge even my guys said "it sucked to be you".

LOL.

Belated b-day, Mostly. Hope you have many more.
Prayers for Jay and wife. Weaning, taking, changing meds...no fun...as you all know. Need that happy chemical and mental balance.

Hope all have a good weekend. Be safe.
TGIF!

A couple of suggestions for your computing problems,
a wireless key board and mouse could help.
Myself, I went with a 17" laptop several years ago and it has almost a full size keyboard and the full number key set on the right.
Good Luck.

I need to go get some Permatex #2 form a gasket (non-hardening). questionaire: What's your favorite gasket goop?

Up until Loctite 518 got such rave reviews, I was using ThreeBond 1209, Kyle. Never had a leak with it, and it comes off fairly easily with a ScotchBrite green pad like you use in the kitchen. I can also tell you that Gasket Cinch is a joke, at least for engine work, as gasoline and oil will dissolve it. Hylomar has a good reputation, but I've never been able to get it to seal cylinder bases on my air cooled engines.:2cents:
