Good Morning!!!! 58F @ 6:00AM. A mix of clouds and sun during the morning will give way to cloudy skies this afternoon. High 83F. Winds WSW at 5 to 10 mph.
No rain since midnight, and we only picked up a tenth of an inch yesterday morning. There were some puddles and pools where the tarps sagged between boards, but the weight only served to hold the tarps in place and I don't think there were any leaks. I'll know later today or tomorrow when I take it all apart, but for now, it looks like I dodged that bullet.

Always nice to hear from someone new, Molalla1. Where abouts in Oregon are you?

Shopping for a mill, RS? Make sure it comes with LOTS of tooling, otherwise you'll go broke trying to set it up before you even get to use it.:laughing:

Too busy to watch the launch, but it's good to see the space program is alive and well and in private hands. And that's all I'm gonna say about that.

Got some housework done while it was raining yesterday morning, but by noon things were drying out. Moved some more junk out into the shipping container, then grabbed a bucket and big soup can and bailed out the water filled sags in the tarps. Probably got close to ten gallons in the bucket, and it was fun stretching the tarps under the smaller pools and watching the water run downhill into the bigger pools. I may be grown up, but I still like to play like a little kid sometimes.:laughing:

Last week an ammo box the Army used to use for "40mm projectiles, inert" was delivered, and yesterday I set about converting it into a tool box for the new tractor. It's the kind with latches at both ends of the lid, but by trimming a tab on one end, that latch can be left latched and act as a hinge. Then made a bracket and drilled the box to fit, but most important, got it all painted Kubota orange with a rattle can from TSC. Kubota put a set of threaded mounting holes on the FEL mounts, and like similar holes elsewhere on that tractor, these were full of rust and dirt and had to be tapped to clean them up. If the paint is dry today, I'll mount it and move the junk over from the old tractor.

Long talk with an old college buddy last night while I was fixin' up a batch of spaghetti. Man, that guy can talk!

The "machines" have always been manufactured by the private sector RNG. The difference is that the government did the design work. Now private companies bid to provide turnkey solutions to the government that are jointly managed / operated. This should result in lower cost / higher efficiency which benefits the tax payers.

The weather has been terrible here. Snow, Rain,Cold wind but a few weeks ago I start building a green house for my wife's birthday. Due to weather and being distracted by other projects it's still not done but it is coming. I have lots to learn about farming. Same (agree) ... I just replaced a 2008 MacBook this past November ... with a late 2012 Mac mini (i5) ...

I have other Power Macs that are over 20 years old, still run, and are still functional/useful ...

Good morning to all! Low of 48, going to the 80s again, still chances of t-storms.

Speaking of which, they formed all around, none overhead, but we got leftover sprinkles from them. Power went out for about an hour and a half, took out a large area. Which reminded me that I never installed the generator transfer switch / generator plug onto the main power panel.... a good time to remember it has not been done.... DUH...

So, guess what is on the agenda for today? Should be straight forward and easy to do. That is why it probably kept getting pushed down the list.... I have everything that is needed (or so I hope) sitting right on top of the generator...

The concrete pour was perfect, exactly the right amount, nice mix, easy to haul and pour. The sons did a great job spending, screening, and finishing. At least that went as planned w / o complications.

The electric line out to the pond also got completed! It was far easier than I was anticipating.... now makes me wonder why I procrastinated doing it for so long... another DUH! moment.

Sounds like the rest of you guys are super busy too! Lots of great pics, projects, and everything else!

55 here going to a sunny 62. Tree pollen is in full swing here so not much going on outside for me. Wife and I took a ride yesterday and bought me a little pre-retirement present: (91 more work days.)

Although it's a beautiful day...it's also a bit chilly (50 degrees) and breezy. Good day to kick back...have a coffee and later, a beer or two.
I have a few more limbs to drop but I don't do any overhead work (especially with a chainsaw) when it's breezy. Too great a chance of the saw getting pinched or the limb not going where I want it. Since no limbing, no need to rig the chipper today
So, kick back and relax!

I think Space-X, in conjunction with NASA, did an outstanding job with the launch yesterday. I didn't watch it (was working outside)...wish I did because it is true history!

Initially, yes, that may seem like a high price.

But I offer you a counter example. I'm writing this on a MacBook Pro 17", made in early 2011, and purchased by me, used, two years later, for $1500. Two years ago, the Graphical Processor Unit crapped the bed, and I paid another $500 to get it fixed, knowing it would probably die again in not much more time. The cost should have been covered by Apple, but since I wasn't the original owner, I was never notified about the extended warranty/recall, and didn't find out about it until it was over. Regardless, here we are, a little over nine years after it was made, and I'm out $2000 to use that laptop every morning for at least an hour over that time. That's about $285/year, less than a dollar a day. Last week I paid $2200 to buy the latest version, that has a screen not quite as large, has the same memory size, twice the SSD capacity, much faster WiFi, and roughly six times the CPU speed. I expect it to last at least as long, and use it just as much. How many Windows or Android based devices can offer the same user experience and track record?:confused3:

Here's my rendition.

3 years and 2 months so far. $4.18 per month. I can fix most anything in it for far less than $500. I also got a 24" monitor for $129

They have them more powerful if you need more power for editing video or such. But for everyday surfing, email and such, my computer has no delays. Right now, I have 12 tabs of different pages open in Chrome, with a video of the space station docking playing in the background.

After Apple was caught slowing down older devices, it really put a dark cloud over them IMO. To each, their own.

Right now, Dell has some reconditioned Apple products they are auctioning. This one is 5 years old though.

This would be an interesting way to spend $2500.

Watched church online. Next week our church opens up, skipping pews. Masks are optional. I'm a bit worried. Our early service has a lot of elderly people.

Plenty to do, not sure what though. Depends on energy level. I went to my mom's and got on her roof, to trim a tree with my pole saw. It was hot and humid. I'm with Randy on this heat. It is amazing how fast the branches pile up on the ground to be carried off. She said her city will charge her $20 to show up and $1/minute to haul away branches. I cut them about 4' long.

My buddy gave me an older 1.5" high pressure water pump for irrigation. He says I need a little 2hp honda engine to power it. Another project.

55F and mostly sunny @ 12:00. High today only 61F ... which might mean I light a fire in the shop while I'm up there working.

Had the overhead open up there yesterday for awhile airing things out and then shut it later in the afternoon, as temps seemed to cool off. Eventually fired up the double barrel stove ... was a toasty 80F in there last night when I knocked off at 23:30.

The oak has now seasoned long enough that it lights up fairly easily. The sycamore is well-seasoned but a lot less heat value ... but then it doesn't take much with as warm as it has been ...

Spent part of yesterday cleaning garage down here at the house and rounding up tools and moving them back up to the shop. Still have a bit more to do on that.

Then spent the rest of the day working up in the shop cleaning it up.

One of the best things to come out of this issue with the FEL is that my big drill bit index (el cheapo HF) is getting refilled ... as I force myself to slow down, straighten and clean things up ... and put things away ... :laughing:

On the list for today:

1. Gather up more tools from down here at the house and move them back up to the shop.

2. Change oil in the compressor up in the shop.

3. See about repairing two vises: the Craftsman (screws that hold the jaws on are stripped out) and a quick clamp/release vise (an import I think I got from Enco - "Oliphant" brand IIRC ... :laughing which had internal plate which actuates the clamping mechanism fail.

4. Possibly run into Harbor Freight (Super Coupons ! ... ) to pick up a few items: 1. Brass brush to use on the cylinder rebuild, 2. new set of digital calipers (old ones seem to be on the fritz - sometimes seem to work, other times not ), 3. a cheap moving dolly (or two) to set up a portable fume extractor/dust collector with another squirrel cage blower that was given to me.

5. Possibly work some more on the sliding doors for the shelves. Have been avoiding doing any grinding up there until I get that done.

Things went better at the Toyota dealership getting my truck inspected. When I got out wearing my cowboy bandana and sunglasses and hat, the service lady asked me if I was planning on robbing them. They put a mask (plastic bag) over the steering wheel and a paper floor mat in place (?)...everyone wearing masks in the waiting room, and spaced apart...I didn't sit down since I like to walk the back lot and look at all the new vehicles...drooling over the $89K Land Cruisers and the shiny red Supra.

I've been wondering how many real robberies are going to be perpetrated due to mask wearing.

I wonder if they make N95 Bandannas???

I prefer the bandanna most of the time, but when it gets warm that double layer cloth gets quite hot and stuffy to me.
I also still have a few of the blue paper cone face masks that are more comfortable on hot days.

On my trip down to Magnolia/Indianola beach, I noticed quite a bit of cotton planted this year, along with plenty of corn as always. I wonder if the demand for cotton has the farmers growing more? I figure the demand is for making masks and gowns.

That one is up in Painesville ... claims R8 tooling, but no mention (or pics) of what exactly. He's asking $900 and it's been up on CL for about a month:
