34F and sunny 10:20, partly sunny for the remainder of the day with the high only reaching 42F.
Trip to the grocery store went pretty smoothly overall, with one major hiccup. They have designated parking spots near the front of the store for people picking up and you call once you've arrived to let them know you're there..
They had me loaded in less than 10 minutes after I called to let them know that I was there. Everything was bagged in paper bags (which I prefer) and was stapled shut. The register tape was stapled to sheet of paper which stated they were working hard to try and fill everyone's order and apologized for the items that they couldn't deliver. Near as I can tell, that was only some frozen cod loins that they had on sale. No biggie as we have some in the freezer anyways.
After that I headed across the street to the pet store to pick up the cat food order and that went even better - took about 3 minutes after I pulled in and called and they had me loaded.
12 miles roundtrip, probably took 40 minutes or less. That was looking pretty good ... until I got home and realized that the young man hadn't loaded the four 12-packs of Coke ...
So another trip back in ... after I called to let them know I hadn't got the Coke the young man forgot to load. Got a $10 gift certificate from an apologetic manager for my efforts ... which just about covered the cost of the Coke (but not the fuel or my time) ...
All in all, I think I'm kind of liking the experience: being able to shop from a comfortable chair, at home ... with minimal time out of the house to pick up the order. The manager said they have been getting slammed and were really pushing to keep up ... said they had 263 orders that day that they had filled. Whole new ball game for them I imagine.
Our order this time did not include any fresh produce, so there's always that aspect to contend with eventually: you aren't picking it out yourself ... but for packaged staple items, where the quality is mostly known, it seems to be pretty workable. One upside to it, is that you're at home so if any
"How much xxxx do we have ?" or
"Are we out of xxxx?" questions come up it's pretty easy to just go look. On the flip side though, you are not in the store going up and down the aisles ... where seeing something might jog your memory and/or cause an impulse buy.
Time-wise it probably took me longer to pick out what I wanted online - partly because they had over 6K items "on sale" and I wanted to know just exactly how many pages of stuff that constituted (61) - so I went through every page ... until I got to the end. You can also look at the "on sale" items by category or brand, which is probably what I'll do next time.
One minor annoyance - which I'll probably email them about - is that while looking through those 61 pages some items came up repeatedly, on multiple pages.
Yeah, no ... thanks anyways ... when I skipped it the first time I really meant it ...
Hope everyone has an enjoyable and productive day.
