I went to the Denton Sam’s Club this morning at 8 a.m. and was surprised to see the parking lot so full that early, and even more surprised to see so many shopping carts loaded down with paper products. I didn’t go in the back to see what might be left, since I was just there for some BBQ ribs and non-prescription medications.

So then I went next door to Walmart for some sausage buns that I use to eat my pork and jalapeno sausages. The shelf was bare, so I went on to the old Denton Walmart; had to settle for some of their store made buns.

Margaret & I went for eye exams yesterday, then this morning we were at Visionworks when it opened and we both ordered new glasses.

So it was after lunch when I went to see my old next door neighbor, Jack, with no luck. He's 90 years old and in a nursing home for the rest of his days. But today, they had a sign up; no visitors except medical personnel and certain blood relative because of the coronavirus fears. But on the way back, I couldn’t believe the number of cars in the Hickory Creek Walmart parking lot just south of us, so I found a parking place and went in. Lines of people waiting to check out, the shelves were completely stripped of paper products of all kinds. And I’ve never seen the other shelves throughout the grocery part of the store so bare.

I guess Walmart is making money; selling stuff faster than they can stock the shelves.

Lot of panic buying going on. Wife went shopped this morning, saw same thing at Walmart. She wanted eggs, none in grocery store either.

I have beef stew cooking in IP.

Didn’t do much today. Went to barn this afternoon, looked around and came back in. Was sunny early, now overcast and a light drizzle of rain.

On positive note, first 3 covid19 in MD declared recovered. But 11 more since yesterday. Most appear to be mild, recover at home.

Right now our church worship service is still on. We are under 100, no gatherings over 250.

I just don’t understand all this panic buying!!! Were people’s houses actually bare? Interesting clip on local evening news last night - alternatives to TP. Well done with touch of humor too.

One thing I have a real dislike for is standing in line (early Army days taught me that one). 9 times out of 10, I’ll forego whatever is at end of the line.

Roy, I've been studying some of the videos on pistols using non lethal ammo.
We still aren't there with a decent stun gun, you'd think someone would make a decent non lethal gun or device.
I know we have tasers, which I don't think I can own

I think most folks who carry firearms hope they never have to use it...like a home fire extinguisher. But, one should be prepared. However, I'll be the first to admit...if the bad guy just wants the money in my wallet (rarely more then 50 bucks), they can have it...and, if I can run, I'll run.
The gun is only if I don't think I can get away.
The odds are, being shot won't kill an assailant...nor is that the intent. The intent is to stop an attack, that's all...

I've been reading sci-fi for too long, they had stun guns when I was a kid reading Heinlein.
They usually have three settings, stun (say for ten minutes), severe stun (nighty night) or lethal.
Awfully hard to make the right decision at the right time. Something any LEO deals with every day.
And any of you who carry arms. One of which may save my life some day in a public setting.
And if you are unlucky even yours. I can really see why folks who live near wild pigs, coyotes, mountain lions, you name it,
you don't want to be caught out alone in a bad situation with one. Me, I'd like to stun it, not kill it. Wonder if they make bear size...

No wild pigs around here, but when on the field, I do normally carry something...most often a .357 revolver.

Thanks, David. I used the same stuff to build ramps into the shipping container, and it compacted hard as a rock. Lots of limestone fines act like concrete once it gets wet and dries out a time or two.

They call it three quarter minus road base out here.

I'm back from North Bay. I went early and things were quiet, but the hordes of lemmings were just coming into town as I was leaving. 0 clorex wipes or any other wipes except for baby wipes and very little TP, but I got what I went for.

We found TP at Robinsons in Dorset, but they didn’t have much. Everywhere else, like Zehrs in Orillia, the shelves were bare. LOL - what a bunch of sheep!

Costco was out of TP when I was there today, too, David. No sign what so ever that they ever stocked it either; they'd moved other merchandise to the spot where it used to be. Nearly the same story at the big box grocery store called Winco, except the toilet paper isle looked like it had been hit by a hurricane. Empty cardboard boxes that had the TP in it were tossed around in the shelves, and not even a roll left. Not many grains left in the bulk food isle, though I did come away with many pounds of wild rice and a big bag of non-fat instant milk, leaving me with a feeling like I'd hit the jackpot:confused2:. Wanted red lentils, but the bin was empty and both the bulk and boxed oats were already gone in both places. There were plenty of fresh foods available; people were buying like there was going to be a power outage or some other kind of natural disaster. I bought several cases of favorite beers (there's no such thing as too much beer:laughing, a bunch of Progresso soup, crackers, and other easy to prepare foods that are easy to eat if I get sick. Also picked up two of those delicious rotisserie chickens, and froze one when I got home, thinking maybe I can make it two weeks before the next trip to town.

Also went to a bank to find no one in line, and they wouldn't honor the full amount of my withdrawal request because they'd been hit so hard earlier in the day. It was only noon.

I observed only one or two outright rude people almost pushing others out of their way, but no shouting and no fights, which under the circumstances is a bit of a surprise, considering the overall panicked look most of the people had, and how many of them were out there shopping. The parking lots were packed, and very few shopping carts remained in the racks. Yet the lines were short, mostly because both stores had almost every register open. Only a few folks were wearing nitrile gloves, and no one wore face masks. I used the hand sanitizer I keep in the glove box each time I got back in the truck, and even got carry out at Panda Express to eat in the truck, same as I do on most town visits. It's pretty clear to me, though, that it would be almost impossible to protect yourself from the virus if it got on the food or packages in the store, because you're going to bring it into your home, put it on your shelves, then pull it back off again to prepare and eat it. Are you going to wash your hands after every time you handle it? And even then, how do you eat things you don't cook like salads, and not get infected if they are contaminated?:confused2:

I just hope this initial wave of panic buying subsides and the supply chain is able to refill the shelves. It took ammunition manufacturers more than a year to catch up on twenty-two long rifle production. I don't think I can make it that long without toilet paper.:laughing: Might have to get one of those bidet attachments for the ol' throne; a buddy of mine has one and he sez it works great. He said "left "when I asked him which hand he uses, but now that shaking hands is against the rules, I suppose that doesn't matter.

Brought home another thirty bags of concrete, and some nice concrete tools, so it looks like I'm mixing my own for the generator pad. Three more trips and I'll have enough bags to git 'er done...

Thanks all for my son's birthday wishes. Sad to say, the tank museum was a bust, closed to virus. Only essential personnel allowed. It is at Camp Mabry. Their twist is Texas' contributions to the wars. Not sure when they'll open again. RNG, I don't believe this is the one with live demos. I would like to find one nearby that does. Maybe the one south of College Station fires up their Sherman every so often.

We ended up going ice skating. Man is that pricey if you just need to burn an hour or 2. Not so much if you have your own skates, and stay the whole time.

My tubes are starting to sprout under the lights. Now I need to cut back the lights to 12 hours on/off. I had been running an 18/6 hour schedule. Some growers run 24 hours on, but I think the tube starts need some downtime.

Kyle- + Birthday wishes for your Son. I hope you all have a good time. I am curious about this museum I really like going to military museums.

Our company has offered us up to 40 additional hours of sick leave to help with virus. I work in the back of the building. I believe I'm going to send out a company wide email to let people know just to email me if they need something, but I want to stay isolated as much as possible. My room has it's own HVAC. I need to ask to get it to positive pressure.

Good evening all. 50F for the start, rain, light wind, 1.6 inch in rain gauge. Wind was light today, fog at times, drizzle at times, streets never dried, and high temp was 56F. Bike ride delayed till afternoon, spent time with wife and read emails on everything that was cancelling, including chapel, choir and choir practice. Easter Hill country tour decision delayed until the 31st.
Jay would using 70% Isopropyl alcohol work as hand sanitizer?

The Russians and the Saudis are having a gas war. I dunno why or how, but the net result is lower gas prices here in the US, but not in Kalifornia. It has nothing to do with the virus. Today I paid $3.56/gallon to fill the F250 with Diesel #2. I learned a long time ago not to question the price, and to be grateful as long as I could buy all that I need. Such is the complicated and nonsensical world we now find ourselves in.:confused2:
