Up a bit early today...too early...

37 right now...high about 40 today.
Company I work for is going through significant changes. I had to provide all my typical activities and responsibilities in writing yesterday...got a bad feeling about this...

Fingers also cross for you Roy your to close retire.

Ugh. Will keep fingers crossed for you. Trust your instincts.

Isn't it weird companies always ask employees what they do? They employ us, what do they think we do? Management sometimes makes you just roll your eyes.

Management became management because they are either too lazy or too stupid to do the job themselves.
Ours try to tell us drivers how to unload hot asphalt cement.

Enjoy the day all.

You remind me of the time a truck driver told the manager he could not back a trailer into a tight spot so adamant that he was willing to bet his pay check. Manager said if you cannot do it he would and he did. Would not take his pay check though. Moral of story all managers are not lazy or stupid in my opinion

Very true.

Good morning,

Unscientifically, a good sign is when all the soil goes back in the trench and you need to bring in more. On the other hand, a mound on the top "for the rain to settle", is proof it needed more whacks (or more likely, built up in thinner layers).

That is a good measure, Eric, but I had to move the dirt away from most of the trenches. Hard to tell which dirt came from which trench now. And more dirt will be needed, because I'm screening the rocks out of the first 6" or so of fill.

One of the new trenches cut across an old one that holds the drain line for a roof gutter, and let me tell you, digging was much easier in that area. Pretty sure all I did was wheel roll that old trench with the tractor, and didn't have any subsidence problem. Hopefully compacting multiple lifts the way I've been doing is even better, but if it's not, I can always pile on more dirt later...

45 going to 61.

We're excited and need pix, riptides.

Eric, I had a long to-do list for today, but guess I'll be here at the PC all day reading dirt packing standards.

Sodamo, I'm with you...wondering if Mostly's wife is part droid. :) David, those braces are perfect.

Got invited to go to a friend's house tomorrow about 8 miles away to tackle a huge oak that came down on their lane...need to make sure my splitter is road-worthy today...and sharpen a couple of chains. Lane is so narrow, I'll have to unhitch the splitter to turn around. Looking forward to getting some oak, since seems like this year the pallets have been stocked with mostly aspen and yellow poplar.

Happy 311 Day!

Good Morning!!!! 56 @ 5:00AM. Plenty of sunshine. High 73F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.
Looks like some light rain coming in for the weekend, hope I can get some gravel delivered before then. Wet gravel weighs more than dry, and I sorta like getting all that I paid for.

Managers are no different than any other occupation. My experience has been that most are good at what they do, but once in a while you run into a stinker. It's easier to ride a horse in the direction it's already goin', but when that happens, it's often best to find another horse, even if you have to walk for a while.:confused3:

Hope yesterday's market advance was more than a dead cat bounce, but I have a feeling there's more negativity to come. I did make a few bux on the small chunk of index fund I bought at the opening on Monday morning, though.

I saw your fire weather warning on the news the other night, Rip. Won't be long before they start out here. We're already seeing several wildfires a week, but thankfully they've all been contained before they got big.

That's a lot of roof in hurricane, or is it typhoon, territory, David. I can't blame you for putting more bracing in place, and glad it worked out.

Nothing better than living where you want to be, Rick. Glad you found your forever place!

Lemme tell you, Wng, reading about dirt packing is a LOT more pleasant way to spend a morning than packing dirt!:muttering::laughing:

Nothing worse than spending time in a doctor's office, Drew. Hope it was time well spent, and they can find some way to help you.

Had just about enough gravel yesterday to get a nice level base built up for the new propane tank, and got most of the forms built, too. Just need to add some bracing and the rebar, and I'll be ready to pour. Might even get one of 'em done this afternoon, maybe both if my calculations were correct on the number of bags needed. Still plenty more trenches to fill if I run out of things to do.:confused2:

Happy Hump Day, folks!

Drinking second cup of coffee. 32° with light moisture of some sort. Heading to 45° with cloudy skies. No plans for the day. Having a good time with my Aunt.

Roy, best wishes. I filled out one of those list many years ago. Got and raise and a promotion to Senior Field Engineer. The only thing that mattered was the raise.

Riptides, welcome back. Pictures !!

Good Morning All.

39°F and light fog this morning, going up to 62° today.

Picked up the F-150 from the shop yesterday evening. Thought we had a wiring issue with all the lights staying on and killing the battery. Figured a mouse chewed through a harness somehwere and shorted something. Turned out to be a faulty ignition cylinder in the steering column, making it think it wasn't turned off. Strange. That's the second time we've had to replace that cylinder. First time was the opposite problem, because it wouldn't turn far enough to engage the starter. Maybe looking to replace the truck in the near future, as it's starting to nickle and dime us to death. Been an expensive week for vehicles here.

On the bright side, we stopped for dinner at a local restaurant while we were out, and that turned out to be delicious.

I had to write a detailed description of my job once. However, I already knew when I was asked that it was because my job was moving somewhere else. The company I worked for was closing our manufacturing facility in St. Louis and moving all domestic production to our Yellville AR facility. That was no fun at all. It eventually closed completely when the owner sold the company to a large holding corporation that owned several other music equipment brands, and they moved all production either overseas or to their Woodinville WA facilities. Two of those brands (Crate and Audio Centron) they eventually eliminated, and the third (Ampeg) is now owned by Yamaha. The music industry seems to be working towards just a handful of super companies owning pretty much everything.
Hope that's not your experience, Roy.

You know, L4N, I always used to joke that managers were put in those positions to keep them from screwing up things on a production line. As a manager, I still say that on occasion. If you can't laugh at yourself, ...
