Very nice day today high of 70 ticks are out hauled off 6 loads of brush still a lot left to do and time is short. Hopefully trail gets done shooting range area clear garden area clear so now can start final prep work. Still removing trees in front and last area beside pond this go round. We sure need rain

Oh man, lots happening. New cars, new jobs, old jobs, new tractors, new mowers, new guns, new people, old people....

Good Day all.

I have been back in town for a few weeks now. Playing serious ketchup (lol) and what not. The wife is doing good, and so well in fact, she took the lead and went and purchased a new Kubota for us. A fully dressed MX6000 should be delivered in the AM.

I am trying to find housing for it on the property, but my wife has recommended that I think about rebuilding an old barn that burned down many years ago. The foundation is still in place (rock and concrete) so I think I better do just that.

And yes, I was in quarantine. And have been instructed to stay remote for the foreseeable future.

Scanning the last few months, you all seem to be doing well. On the aches and pain front, I seem to have some meniscus damage that developed on a mysterious fashion. But nothing like the issues some of you appear to be dealing with.

I hope all are well, and doing what you enjoy.

New drone, accessories, new Kia, blue mower, lambs, visitor from Ga (shorts and a Tee, my year round uniform), job, retirement the GM ohana is a constant and welcome source of change and goodness. ��

I was nervous as heck approaching retirement, Hawkeye. My income would drop by 2/3, I was also moving across the state to an unfamiliar area, and I had a real "you don't know what you don't know" feeling going into it. For the first year or so, I really pulled in my financial horns, reducing expenditures to the bare minimum. At the end of that year, the sky still hadn't fallen, and I felt pretty good about how well predicted and actual expenses were tracking each other. It'll be ten years next month that I pulled the plug, and I'm only now getting into drones, so don't feel like you should be rushed into one. Besides, the longer you wait, the better, and less expensive, they'll be.

I knew there'd be a **** storm when I announced my retirement, but the personnel guidelines only required 2 weeks notice. I'm glad I chose to go that way, because management treated me like an absolute traitor and pariah, basically putting me in solitary confinement for those last two weeks. They even had me blood tested, something that never happened in the 30 years I'd worked there...:shocked:

That sounded rough. Micromanagement. ughh. I am at a good point with my manager now after a few years.

What is it with our wives buying tractors, that’s at least 3-4 of us so far.

I don't have a problem at all with this, as long as they are bringing home cab tractors. Mine doesn't like to work outside the home, so I don't have to worry about that.

I purposely set myself up for my Army retirement before hand. Don’t know current rules but in my time only officers with a Regular Army commission were normally allowed to serve beyond 20 years, I had a Reserve commission and when promoted to Major declined the RA appointment, in effect setting my retirement at the 20 year point. My last assignment was as computer engineer and my cubicle mate was a West Point LTC whose retirement date was less than month prior to mine. For some reason they seemed to keep us isolated last couple of months. Something about short timers attitude. Never did understand

Unscientifically, a good sign is when all the soil goes back in the trench and you need to bring in more. On the other hand, a mound on the top "for the rain to settle", is proof it needed more whacks (or more likely, built up in thinner layers).

I guess you knew that RNG, you just wanted us to take our time over breakfast on pondering the merits of differing compaction tests. Well after much thought over a cup of tea and a bowl of cereal, next time I dig out a rotten gatepost and tamp in a new one, I will be more inclined to use your "California Test 216" "Method of Test for Relative Compaction of Untreated and Treated Soils and Aggregates", instead of the usual ASTM D968... :laughing:

Got invited to go to a friend's house tomorrow about 8 miles away to tackle a huge oak that came down on their lane...need to make sure my splitter is road-worthy today...and sharpen a couple of chains. Lane is so narrow, I'll have to unhitch the splitter to turn around. Looking forward to getting some oak, since seems like this year the pallets have been stocked with mostly aspen and yellow poplar.

Hope it isn't as big as the "Big Oak" at Goose Island State Park. Still sounds like a lot of work.

Across from the big tree, there is a big fenced in field that had some whooping cranes. They were about 125 yards away. Actually, the park had suffered Harvey damage, and much is still closed off. They hope to have it repaired by end of Summer. You can go see the Big tree without paying anything, as it is a mile outside the park.

I looked at google maps to check traffic near the beach, and decided to take the kids to the beach. We went to Port Aransas. It was a little cool with the wind coming in and the surf was strong, but no mosquitoes, sea weed, jellyfish or other bad stuff. Turned out the kids played in the waves plenty and had a great time. A good day trip. I saw plenty of northern license plates, and a few snowbird RV's headed back north.....chasing the geese.

Got the rest of additional (5) braces installed. Used the unused 2x2 bracing from the kit at full length, just angled the ends for attachment. One end thru middle of 4x4 post with 3/8 bolt, other end attached with #12 self drilling screws to carport frame.

You remind me of the time a truck driver told the manager he could not back a trailer into a tight spot so adamant that he was willing to bet his pay check. Manager said if you cannot do it he would and he did. Would not take his pay check though. Moral of story all managers are not lazy or stupid in my opinion

I have worked for a couple incompetent managers, I found a way to move on. Where I work now, they are very competent.

Our business is doing well and we are hiring.

Good evening all. 60F for the start, partly cloudy sky, light breeze. Breeze became moderate wind, sky became mostly clear and high temp of 84F. One more nice day, then a lot of rain moves in, need to get leaves picked up. Men's meeting this morning then bike ride, nap and over to stepdaughter's for dinner. We will likely go back on dog duty Sunday.

If making enough mistakes so you know what NOT to do, then perhaps, I can be considered an expert. But I don't think I could tell you what to do in the first place, which perhaps is what a smart person would want to know. :laughing:

I can tell you that if you want to run a water line from the RO filter under the kitchen sink across the concrete slab floor to the refrigerator, you'd be wise to use plenty of water when the diamond wheel is cutting the groove. Otherwise, there will be plenty of concrete dust, in places you really don't want concrete dust, and never imagined it would go. DAMHIKT...:shocked:

43 outside this AM. Heading to mid 60's today. 70's predicted tomorrow with rain chances. I might tackle the burn pile tomorrow. It's over a year old. Way too big.
Played in the dark last night, the standard lights are good enough for me on the tractor. The lights changes the whole operations schedule for us.

good morning all. Sipping a half cup of black coffee, medical labs this morning and nothing to eat til that's done.

sounds like a little light rain last night, but all the rain for this week has not shown up. 50 out now, high in upper 70's in sunshine.
morning taken up by doc visit, then off to hospital this afternoon for CT on abdomen. Only area they haven't done so far, should rule out cancer in that area, which was my concern from the beginning. Have to drink the contrast stuff at noon, ugh.

Otherwise stomach meds have me feeling mostly fine and nice to get on with life. Almost a week since we asked for appt with infectious disease and no reply. Seeing primary this morning and will ask her what's going on. I want to get in there before the virus folks show up...

pollen is very heavy now, have to blow my nose when I come in, wash my face, etc to get it off me.

Good morning, the temp is 26°F and going to a high of 43. Wind ESE 7 mph. 40% chance of flurries.

We got about a half an inch of snow overnight, not enough to even think about plowing.

The corner of the basement where we throw in the firewood gets to be a mess after a season of bark falling off etc. Yesterday we cleaned that up. It only took 5 bucket loads.

Come the end of this month, I will have been in this place 25 years. The longest I have stayed in one place.

A dump run and town is in the cards for today.

Not really....but I am 70...not the best age to be interviewing. Occasion interviews are a good way to maintain one's skills (in interviewing)
