RNG- I really like your sunset picture. Thanks for sharing. Most fly-a-way drones are more due to owner/operator inexperience, an over-estimation of their own ability to actually pilot/fly their drone manually, and an over-dependency on a really fancy flight controller that does the real flying and can be prone to poor programming input as to flight parameters, computer glitches, signal loss and interference.

Thanks for the feedback Jay!

I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger on an $800+ purchase that could disappear into the sunset on its own accord.

That said, if you could pick any camera drone from the current crop, which one would it be?:confused3:

RNG- If I remember correctly David has a Phantom 3. They are a well engineered product. Actually I like DJI products. I upgraded to a (cheap/basic) DJI flight controller on the "Flying Cuisinart." Most of the DJI owner/operator and/or former owner/operator complainers deserve to have lost their aircrafts.

I lost 4 cheapies during my learning curve. 1 was disorientation at distance, 2 were blown away by the wind at higher elevation (post happy hour events), and the last just took off when I turned on the transmitter:eek: I still have not figured out that fly-a-way, but I did something wrong.

I probably spent more on parts, replacement parts, props and prop balancers, upgraded components, batteries, battery chargers, transmitters, monitors, TV and video components, etc. than what David spent. And one can hear my "FC"; it's really loud, like a million angry hornets when those motors fire up.

If anyone considers buying a drone; buy a couple of cheap ones first and lots of replacement props and get a feel for actually flying/piloting it. There is quite a debris field under my learning curves.

Need to visit mom but I’m not sure if I should before I’m completely over this junk.

If you are looking for anothers' opinion, I surely would NOT go anywhere near my mother if I was sporting a cold.

Good morning. It was 60° this morning and overcast. Our forecast say 74° this afternoon, already up to 70°

I did get another burn pile lit yesterday morning, after VFD meeting. There was, at that time, no wind.

IMG_1479.jpg

About the time it was down to just the big logs, the wind came up (17-20 mph) and kept everything smoldering away nicely.

IMG_1509.jpg

This morning.

IMG_4945.jpg

While monitoring the fire, I took out a few more cedar trees for the next burn pile.

Hope everyone has a relaxing Sunday.

Prayers to all.

I agree with Bill, and if one was still under the weather and/or has just recovered from a contagious illness they could be putting themselves and their weakened immune system at risk due to exposure to possibly new contagious and/or even more virulent diseases that seem to cluster in longterm institutional settings.

Ted- You asked me a ? the other day about what I plan to do with all my downed wood on the property It's really a mess up there and right now is almost solid ice on the exposed SW slope. I've been thinking about this. I really need to brush the paths again. The last time I had the "help" of high doses of Prednisone. My hill is too steep to safely operate the tractor (or even walk in some places) so the downed trees up on the hill will basically be left to rot unless it's obstructing my paths and in that case I will clear that out with my chainsaw, etc.; moveable wood near my walking paths will be moved to create path boundaries, the wood that is accessible and really not firewood material will be moved to create more cover for the wildlife along/within the field perimeters, and the burnable wood will be processed.

Not to mention spreading your germs to your mother, toppop. Does she have access to a phone?

Thanks for the compliment, RNG. Likely I spend too much time planning and what-iffing. As you well know, DIY is much different than just writing the check.

As for Drones, pretty much agree with Jay’s assessment.
I fly mine within sight, although I’m sometimes tempted to explore. Actually, within sight is pretty much within my property boundaries. In the beginning I did have opportunity to traipse around for recovery. Prefer not to. Any crashes were operator induced. ☹️

As Jay said, I have a DJI Phanton 3. My cottage tenant has the Mavic and loves it.
Lots of Youtube reviews on the less expensive stuff. You just might be happy in the $100 range if you can get good pics.

TAs You just might be happy in the $100 range if you can get good pics.

I lost an hour down the Amazon/drone rabbit hole this morning. I set up a search for "camera drone", with Prime only offerings, sorted in order of least expensive to most. The first drones showed up in the fifteen dollar range, but none had cameras.:confused3: By twenty-five dollars, the 780P models showed up. And so did lots of one star reviews. By the time the thirty-five dollar jobs were listed, HD 1080P was on the menu, again with lots of one star reviews. I suspect some of the names on those drones were the result of very bad Chinese to Engilsh translations. It made me wonder how much fun I'd have trying to decipher the instructions. I decided to get out of bed at that point and start my day...:confused2:

February left like a lion; march began like a lamb. After yesterday stayed below freezing and wind, today started at 18° and is now 50° and sunny.

After worship visited a friend in a nursing home .

Got my trash out for tomorrow, put 5 gal of diesel in the tractor, starts the ZTR and let it warm up some.

And put a new flag up, the old one was getting in real bad shape

Changlish takes some getting used to. The problem is compounded due to all the regional dialects in China. I think there are 13. There may be 3 tiers of translation going on in the literature.

When I first got the camera/video bug with my quadcopters. I attached a cheap keychain videocam on my $20 - $30 trainers with rubber bands, velcro, etc.. I got some crazy highly disorienting 3 minute videos with that set up.

I didn’t go to see mom, not the first time I’ve chosen to stay away due to illness, mine or theirs. I called to check on her though. You really can’t talk to her on the phone the last two years or so.

March came in like a lamb here.

Yes indeed. Bitterly cold this morning, something like -13°F, and then went up to 32°F. Now, for the first time, the forecast is above freezing for all of the coming week. Perhaps this indeed is the end of the winter!

Meanwhile, the Blue Jays were all over the birdfeeder today, chasing away the poor chickadees.

Lovely, sunny day, as the temperature gradually rose up to the freezing mark. Looking forward to tomorrow. Had guests up from the city, who had a great old time snowshoeing in the new snow.

Don, we have our first harvest of kale from the organic garden. It has aphids under the leaves. My wife is washing them off in the sink. Are the aphids considered vegan when digested? :)

Randy, sorry about your missed mom visit.

   / Good morning!!!! #107,515
Overnight is going to be a 70% chance of freezing rain, then tomorrow and the following 4 days we're gonna be above freezing.

This is not the end of winter. Never sell March short.

Good evening all. Windy last night, 54F for the start, and overcast. Overcast cleared up a bit, Wind got stronger and gustier, and high temp was 75. Chapel this morning, then make breakfast for wife. Putter on computer, nap, then walked dog after supper. Wondered how Brogen was on walks, bet he has a lot more pull on the leash than Scooter!
Eric enjoy your homemade vitamin D.
Billy sorry about the closed shop. Hope you did not have to drive far.
Ron, hope you had fun with familly going to show. Woodpecker gave me vertigo
Bird, what a time for ice maker to quit :(
Drew, happy planting.
Kyle, hope your Sunday School class went well, what age group are you working with? Thanks for the compliment ! :dance1:
RNG Hope you get your conduit inspected without issue. Why would putting wires through garage wall be different than pulling wire through house wall? Nice pic and video.
Jay always haves issues when grilling that cold.
Randy, Don't visit your mom if you are not 100%. Missed out visiting Dad shortly before he passed because I was not 100%, and still do not regret it. But if I had gotten him ill, I would have regretted it very much.
David hope hand and foot went well, have fun drawing roof.
Rick you must be making inroads on your cedar tree population.
David, the better I what if, the better the projects go
RNG whenever someone mentions translating to English, I remember my Kawasaki factory manual, word order and some word choices were "different"
Buckeye glad you are getting some better weather.
Jay, not to mention the problems with technical literature. Then there are the diffences in England Englis and America English and some tech terms change:confused2: Liked your video :)
James glad you were able to enjoy outdoors with your guests.
prayers for all.

This was made with a $30 SYMA X1 and an even cheaper keychain video cam: December 31, 2013 Greatest Movie of All Time - YouTube

Not a bad effort, Jay, and not much at risk in case anything went wrong. I take it that the drone didn't have any fancy hover, home, or ??? capability, and you had to wiggle the joy sticks just the right way? Do modern drones somehow signal when their batteries get to the point they can't make it home? And what happens if the batteries give up the ghost when the thing is still airborne? A not so pretty landing?

I'll rephrase my earlier question: Given your pick, what <$100 drone would you pick to learn on this time around?:confused3:

Good morning. Woke up to a beautiful clear sky, frost covered fields and an almost dry yard. :cloud9:

The last of the ewes left for their annual "holiday" yesterday morning, just in time. March had come in and, liking it, a single lamb decided to come out.

I know some of you enjoy tracking in the snow, our "driest" saturated ground gives an opportunity to do the same - on grass.

Kyle, before you are ask Don for his organic aphid recipee, have you thought how many your poor wife will need to pick to fill the instant pot ? :confused2: :)

Good morning, the temp is 25°F and it is going up to 36. Wind S 8 mph. Rain showers possible 60% chance.

My job today is to find an oil leak. I am guessing it is the oil plug on the right side of the pan, but I will go over all of it.

Have a safe day all
