Poured second cup of coffee. 21° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 50° with lots of sun. Last day of sun. Back more normal winter clouds tomorrow. Did take a short walk yesterday in shirt sleeves. GD is coming to clean house today. Got blade welding fixture done yesterday. But while looking for something yesterday I found 3 blades stuck in back corner of a cabinet for my metal cutting band saw. So rush to weld some blades together.

Looking, when I look at some of the mail and package carrier cost. It's my thought that we subsidizing the cheap deals that all the carriers worked out with Amazon and other online sellers.

Buckeye, grapple looks good.

Pete 35, :welcome: to Good Morning !!!

Prayers and best wishes for everyone.

Good Morning All.

good morning all.
Clear cold morning, 26 going to 60 today in sunshine.
My 70 dollar Amazon special noise cancelling headphones have worked pretty well, but always wondered how
much better the Sony's could be for four times the cost. They are supposed to work better than Bose. I think they are priced for wealthy businessmen flying, not for us on our tractors...

Bill, that's a lot more expensive than here. I think I paid 16 dollars for a Fedex delivery.

not sure what I'll be doing today but certainly includes watering plants in greenhouse. I find that very relaxing.

Good morning. It's a warm 54° this morning. Looks like it will be overcast all day and get to about 68° this afternoon.

Winds stayed light yesterday so .. another burn pile lit.

Before;

5 minutes later

30 minutes .. after ignition.
IMG_1462.jpg

I pushed it into more compact pile, with tractor, so it should just be a pile of ash this morning.

Headphones? I bought a set of Bose QC15's in 2009 when they came out. I used them only for flying which was a lot and they stayed in my travel backpack. After I retired I forgot all about them until I accompanied Patricia on one of her business trips to NYC. I pulled them out, on the plane and they no workee. Assumed it was the AAA battery so I used a pair of Beats ear buds instead. When we returned, I opened up the battery compartment to replace the battery and found lots of corrosion around the battery. Oops! Took them down to the shop and cleaned out the corrosion only to find the tiny, tiny wire to the battery terminal had corroded in two. Set them aside for a rainy day to figure out of to disassemble and replace wire. That very week, Amazon had one of their "deal of the day" offers. I got a set of Sony WH-CH700N Wireless Bluetooth Noise Canceling Over the Ear Headphones and $100 off. $98 and free Prime shipping. . I listened WNG's Good, Bad, Ugly on them. Excellent!

Sony WH-CH700N Wireless Bluetooth Noise Canceling Over the Ear Headphones with Alexa Voice Control - Black Amazon.com: Sony WH-CH7N Wireless Bluetooth Noise Canceling Over the Ear Headphones with Alexa Voice Control – Black: Electronics

I bought a set of 3M Worktunes AM / FM / BT for mowing on the zero turn. Tractors both have cabs and AM / FM / BT radios.

Did you know? If the ear muffs go bad on the Worktunes, 3M will send you new ones .. free! Snap old ones off .. snap new ones on.

Plan for this morning is to take care of another burn pile before the rains come tomorrow. I'm hoping to quit early and catch the last hour or so of the 6 hour Lone Star Le Mans at the Circuit of the America's in Austin. It's from Noon till 6 p.m. and should be on the Motor Trend Channel (Dish 246). We follow the Corvette Racing C8.R cars in LMGT Class.

Ron .. I like your blade fixture. Hope you post more pics some time. Does the plate with X, behind the blade clamp handles, serve a purpose?

WNG .. your GBU music got me searching for my sound track CDs from those movies. Good stuff! Did the Danish orchestra do the music for the movie originally?

Hope everyone has a nice a Sunday.

Prayers to all.

Rick, I don't think the Danish did the original movie...the old DVD box I have says Music by Ennio Morricone. Probably used an Italian symphony. Maybe RNG can look at the credits when he finishes watching. But the Danish National has recorded a number of movie scores, including For a Few Dollars More, A Fistful of Dollars, and Star Trek, for example.

Finished for a cup of coffee. Time for a second. The weather is going to be nice up here today. Sunny, and going up to about 40°F this afternoon. Time to get all the rest of the snow off the deck, and put the motion detector spotlights on the corner of the garage that I have been meaning to for a few years now. Then get to the basement. SWMBO says our daughter wants to use the basement as her cottage when she gets married and comes up with her future hubby and offspring. Better get moving, because all I have right now is insulation and polythene on the outer walls! (OK, I have also framed in two bedrooms and a bathroom and a utility room. And some wiring.)

Good Morning!!!! 45F @ 6:15AM. Some clouds this morning will give way to generally sunny skies for the afternoon. High 66F. Winds light and variable.

Most of the big brand battery companies guarantee their products won't leak and damage the device in which they're installed. So they'd replace those Bose headphones, Rick, if you were using a Duracell or the like.:confused3: Now I'd better go check mine, if I can find 'em. Haven't used 'em since I retired because I haven't been on an airliner since I retired. :cloud9:

Nice job on the blade fixture, Ron. I like the way the handles on your clamps face away from the blade. Mine face the other way, and the rubber covers have become hard from the heat. Took me a long time to mill the slot for grinding the blade bevel, and didn't see a need to cut two of them, though.

Not much progress on plumbing the gas line yesterday. Got the first piece of pipe cut and threaded, then installed it and a 10' stick in a 90° elbow just fine. But then I couldn't find the 3/4" cap to block off one end for pressure testing, but did find another gauge and adapter to match the one the propane man left me with. Put 'em both on, ran 100' of hose down the hill from the compressor, pressurized the pipe, and took a break for lunch. Came back to both gauges reading zero. Took both gauges off and reinstalled 'em using both Teflon tape and pipe dope, and this time when I pressurized the pipe I could hear air hissing out of the test gauge I found. Turns out the housing was split where it threaded on to the pipe. Went back to my junk drawers and found another one I hadn't looked in before, and there was a 3/4" pipe cap with a Schrader valve already installed. Using that, the elbow joint passed the pressure check just fine. The next length of pipe extended down past the end of the terrace, so I had to figure out where to cut it and if a 90° or 45° elbow would be best to follow the contour of the trench bottom. Turns out that they were both wrong, and I needed a 22 1/2° elbow. Have any of you ever tried to buy a 22 1/2° 3/4" NPT elbow? Amazon had ONE, for FIFTY-FOUR DOLLARS! Google found a couple for ONLY half that. None of the box stores or True Value even carried them. So I did what any red blooded American with a machine shop would do, and cut and beveled a couple short sections of pipe so I could weld 'em together and make my own 22 1/2° elbows. I figure if they survive the torque of installation, they'll hold up just fine under less than 1 PSI of propane. And yeah, I checked the metallurgy of "black iron" pipe, and it's plain old low carbon steel, not iron at all. In fact, most of the pipe is seam welded, but because of the high cooling rates when resistance welding is used, pipe made that way is annealed at 1000F post welding. So as long as I don't quench my GMA welds, they should be just fine.

And then there's the nomenclature by which those elbows are named. A 90° elbow really is a right angle, and should be called a ninety degree elbow. But now look at a 45° elbow. The included angle isn't 45° at all, it's 180° - 45 = 135°. And a 22 1/2° elbow is 180° - 22 1/2° = 157.5°, and the correct angle for each half of a DIY 22 1/2° elbow bevel is half of that, or 78.75°. :confused2:

Before all that, though, I did a little reading about CSST, the new Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing that is suitable for natural gas and propane. It would have been perfect for my application, except it has to be run inside a non-ferrous conduit if it is buried, and I'd be right back to fooling with rigid pipe again. But at least 22 1/2° elbows are available in PVC, and I've already got some to do the electrical runs.

Now I wonder why I just don't get the pipe bender out and tweak a couple of 22 1/2° bends in a piece of pipe. But then how would I screw it into a coupler when it's down in the trench? I'd have to lift the whole mess up out of the trench, I guess. And then read the building code to see if it allows rigid pipe to be bent...

I'm not even out of bed this morning and my head already hurts. I need a nap...

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend...

You're right, Wng. From the opening credits: Orchestra Cinefonica Italiana, And the choirs "I Cantori Moderni" of Allessandroni. "Recordings effected at the Studios of International Recording." Sure are a LOT of Italian names in those credits. No wonder they call 'em Spaghetti Westerns!

Oh, and that looks like an 1873 Winchester the orchestra member is using to discharge his (i hope) blanks. More than likely, though, it's an Italian reproduction..

RNG, wow, I never realized that there was no 22 1/2 degree black pipe elbows! I thought “ it must be a California thing “ , but no.... it is true....

Good morning to all! Low was below freezing sometime last night because the rain was frozen on the deck. 36 when I finally got out of bed. High is supposed to be near 50. Still chances of a shower.

Productive day yesterday, accomplished all set out out to do. Today will incorporate a little bit of time in the son ‘ s garage, 1 1/2 sheets of OSB to put up, then that phase will be completed.

Everyone have a great day!

I tell you what is a Kalifornia thing, Ted. I tried to buy a brand of pipe dope called Oatey 15707 Hercules Block Thread and Gasket Sealant through Amazon yesterday, and got an email from the supplier saying they couldn't ship to California because of prop 65, which keeps all the snowflakes safe from such harmful carcinogens.:muttering::censored::banghead::pullinghair:

Ok.... went from sunny and calm at 40 degrees to windy, dark skies, and near white-out conditions in about 10 minutes. Temp dropped to 31 in that time... I was not expecting snow!

I now that somethings are on the New York prohibited lists also.
What I have done is if it is a home depot or Lowes product order it for delivery to the store and pick a store in Vermont,
one of my other options is I have kids in other states I have had them order products for delivery to their address and then have them reship to me,
it's a pain and not cheap but does work.
