Good Morning!!!! 57F @ 8:00AM. Abundant sunshine. High around 70F. Winds light and variable.
Looks like you've almost doubled your rain harvest capacity, David. Will you enlarge the storage tanks, too?
Given any thought to swapping your camera out for something with cross hairs to take care of the tree rat problem, Ron?
My Kubota had the plastic grill broken when I bought it, and the frame holding the headlights bent as well. I fixed it all, then broke/bent it again myself clearing brush with the 4-in-1. It'll probably stay that way...
That flooded holler looks nice'n'flat for some shootin', Eric. Why not just add some longer legs to your old bench and row a small boat out to it?
Glad to hear you're gettin' another fix for your gravel addiction, Ted. Maybe give some thought to videoing your technique so us rookies can learn your spreading secrets.
I hope I finished the trenches for the propane and electrical lines yesterday. Took another ride on the big trencher, no pucker moves this time. Last time I didn't raise the saw high enough and as the front wheels rolled onto the flat at the bottom of the hill, the back wheels unweighted as the saw pivoted down and hit the dirt. That caused a pretty good tip to one side that had me hitting the backup pedal to keep it from getting worse. I didn't figure out what happened until I backed most of the way up the hill and saw the drag marks made by the saw. Anyway, didn't do a very good job of alignment when I deepened the propane trench, so it's a bit wider at the top than at the bottom now, and doing that filled up the new cross trench I dug to start out, so I got plenty of shovel time in yesterday as well. Saved the best for last though, as I couldn't use the trencher to deepen the upper end of the propane trench, and that was all mattock and demo hammer work. My big brim straw hat did double duty keeping the flying bits of clay and rock from going down the neck of my T-shirt. But the trenches and the pads for both the generator and propane tank are clear, and all I need to do now is get the conduit and piping in before I can start the concrete work. Oh, and get the open trenches inspected, which I'm hoping can happen this coming week.
It was a nice evening with little wind, and I had a bunch of cardboard packing material to get rid of, so I started a campfire using wood from the short ends firewood pile. I'd given up on campfires a month ago because that wood was so wet, but between the tarp I put over it and the long dry spell we're in now, quite a bit of it had dried out. And a happy circumstance of holding the tarp corners down with a drywall screw through a block of wood and into a heavy chunk of firewood means that lifting the piece of wood to raise the corner gives good access to the pieces underneath, and the tarp can be easily re-positioned without tools or stringing new zip ties. I don't know what kind of cardboard Cummins used to protect the corners of the generator during shipping, but it's so hard and tough I had to use the band saw to cut it into pieces small enough to burn. Back at the fire pit, a little #2 Diesel got the fire roaring in just a few minutes, and those corner protectors also turned out to be very flammable. So much so that I think instead of just burning them, I'm going to cut them into strips for kindling. And the dry wood from the pile has me rethinking my plan to burn a brush pile or two, as they're so dry now they'll burn too vigorously, throwing embers into the now too dry surroundings. I don't wanna be "that guy" that let his burn pile fire get out of control. There's a chance of showers for next weekend, so after that might be a good time, if it actually happens.
I did start the Good/Bad/Ugly movie after dinner, but my plan to watch the whole thing fizzled out when I woke up on the couch at 1AM...
Hope everyone enjoys the weekend!
