Thomas sounds like kittens viewing a target rich environment. Squirrels go into hiding when Scooter comes over. When will Boo Boo likely come out of hibernation?

On the average second week of April that's if weather doesn't warm before.
Some say mother bear and her cubs will come out from denning earlier than older bears.

Was 20 when I went outside earlier at dawn. Warming up to 55 and sunny.

Eric, I'm surprised you didn't just put on some waders and shoot from your old bench, but the new one sure looks sturdy.

Buppies, hope you get some shooting time this weekend. Sounds like your brush project is going well.

David, your project looks great.

Went to visit my MIL yesterday on the other side of town...then went to the YMCA gym near there...our membership lets us go to any of the 17 metro branches. This one is located upstairs above a grocery store...used to be used as the local grocer's office space before Publix bought it...so while you are working out you can look down through a glass wall at the ice cream aisle and drool.

Good morning. It was 35° this morning and clear. With sun shine, it’s already up to 47° and our high is forecast to be 63° this afternoon.

If winds stay down .. another burn pile may get lit today. Winds are now about 5 mph from the SE.

Ron .. I learned the hard way when a fairly small branch went thru the back side of the grapple on the 100 HP New Holland and punched thru the $90 grill and almost got the radiator. I had to remove the headlight assembly to get to a couple of the grill fasteners.

BTW ... who doesn’t like Torch Red? 4 out 5 of mine .. have been red.

IMG_1450.jpg

Eric .. that’s a nice bench! Is your other one under water?

Mostly .. one “awe s..t” wipes out 100 “atta boys” in a microsecond.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Prayers to all.

Good morning to all! Low of 33, a change from the past 2 days of freezing fog. By noon today it is forecasted to be 46 and an 80% chance of rain. Another 80% chance for tomorrow AM, then clearing.

Cleaning / reorganization of the shop is due this morning. My middle son is bringing all of their stuff from storage today. The $160 per month they are paying for a storage unit (10x10) is ridiculous. He is going to put it in the other side of the garage, so I reorganized that yesterday.

Buppies, thoughts for a speedy recovery and clean follow up sent your way.

Eric, hopefully with all the expected rain here, everything will dry out by the time it makes it to you..... probably will not happen, but wishful thinking?

Drew, hopefully the Drs can formulate a game plan to get you fixed up... at least so you can be mobile without devices.

Jay, good to hear from you, sorry to hear that Peg is still struggling with her arm. Keep up the good work maintaining the fort!

David, nice job on getting the carport roof on. Is it complete or do you still have trim pieces to do? Have you thought about where the next concrete pour will be?

RNG, did you start playing with concrete yet or still trenching?

Guess what? I have more gravel coming Monday morning! I am going to make a parking area for the travel trailer and utility trailer. This way they are out of the driveway area and tucked out of site (our view anyway). WooHoo! More gravel!

Dump run today with garage build debris, some brush, bunch of cardboard recycling. Take the BH off tractor and put on the box blade, work in garage, probably a grocery store run.... lots to do... got to get moving!

Everyone have a great day!

Thanks for that video Wng, about as feel good as music, in all it forms, comes.

I especially like listening to classical music whenever I need to come up with an idea and create code to do something new. It allows ideas to pop out of nowhere and still filter through, whereas I find a quick blast of heavy rock steals all the mind's attention, but good for the testing phase, once everything else is in place.

What about listening to music while driving a tractor, do you enjoy it, or does it distract you into driving into a ditch ?

I got a pair of active noise canceling headphones that work via Bluetooth about a month ago, and man oh man, what a difference driving the tractor! My Kubota BX 25 is actually quite noisy, but with these headphones on and some nice music playing, I can barely even hear the motor.

Makes working on the tractor much more pleasant, as these things are so much more effective than just regular ear protection.

Good Morning!!!! 57F @ 8:00AM. Abundant sunshine. High around 70F. Winds light and variable.

Looks like you've almost doubled your rain harvest capacity, David. Will you enlarge the storage tanks, too?

Given any thought to swapping your camera out for something with cross hairs to take care of the tree rat problem, Ron?

My Kubota had the plastic grill broken when I bought it, and the frame holding the headlights bent as well. I fixed it all, then broke/bent it again myself clearing brush with the 4-in-1. It'll probably stay that way...

That flooded holler looks nice'n'flat for some shootin', Eric. Why not just add some longer legs to your old bench and row a small boat out to it?

Glad to hear you're gettin' another fix for your gravel addiction, Ted. Maybe give some thought to videoing your technique so us rookies can learn your spreading secrets.

I hope I finished the trenches for the propane and electrical lines yesterday. Took another ride on the big trencher, no pucker moves this time. Last time I didn't raise the saw high enough and as the front wheels rolled onto the flat at the bottom of the hill, the back wheels unweighted as the saw pivoted down and hit the dirt. That caused a pretty good tip to one side that had me hitting the backup pedal to keep it from getting worse. I didn't figure out what happened until I backed most of the way up the hill and saw the drag marks made by the saw. Anyway, didn't do a very good job of alignment when I deepened the propane trench, so it's a bit wider at the top than at the bottom now, and doing that filled up the new cross trench I dug to start out, so I got plenty of shovel time in yesterday as well. Saved the best for last though, as I couldn't use the trencher to deepen the upper end of the propane trench, and that was all mattock and demo hammer work. My big brim straw hat did double duty keeping the flying bits of clay and rock from going down the neck of my T-shirt. But the trenches and the pads for both the generator and propane tank are clear, and all I need to do now is get the conduit and piping in before I can start the concrete work. Oh, and get the open trenches inspected, which I'm hoping can happen this coming week.

It was a nice evening with little wind, and I had a bunch of cardboard packing material to get rid of, so I started a campfire using wood from the short ends firewood pile. I'd given up on campfires a month ago because that wood was so wet, but between the tarp I put over it and the long dry spell we're in now, quite a bit of it had dried out. And a happy circumstance of holding the tarp corners down with a drywall screw through a block of wood and into a heavy chunk of firewood means that lifting the piece of wood to raise the corner gives good access to the pieces underneath, and the tarp can be easily re-positioned without tools or stringing new zip ties. I don't know what kind of cardboard Cummins used to protect the corners of the generator during shipping, but it's so hard and tough I had to use the band saw to cut it into pieces small enough to burn. Back at the fire pit, a little #2 Diesel got the fire roaring in just a few minutes, and those corner protectors also turned out to be very flammable. So much so that I think instead of just burning them, I'm going to cut them into strips for kindling. And the dry wood from the pile has me rethinking my plan to burn a brush pile or two, as they're so dry now they'll burn too vigorously, throwing embers into the now too dry surroundings. I don't wanna be "that guy" that let his burn pile fire get out of control. There's a chance of showers for next weekend, so after that might be a good time, if it actually happens.

I did start the Good/Bad/Ugly movie after dinner, but my plan to watch the whole thing fizzled out when I woke up on the couch at 1AM...

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend!

Oh, and I lost the battle to recover my ToDo list. Apple tech support says there's a hashed up local copy of it on the hard drive, but the only one I could find turned out to be many months old. I didn't realize that as such, TimeMachine backups or hard disk clones wouldn't include any data from applications or apps that sync with iCloud because somehow that data is all on Apple's servers. That doesn't make sense, because I can still read and change the notes when there's no internet connection, but that's what Apple told me. In the old days before Apple removed the ability of local syncing, there was always data to backup from the hard drive, and that's no longer the case. I've never trusted remote backup schemes because I have been burned several times in the past by them, and here's another reason not to trust them now. So if you're an Apple user, be careful what you trust to iCloud because it doesn't support multiple dated versions of backups like TimeMachine or multiple disk images do. And the new versions of Notes, Contacts, and Calendar store the data in a format that isn't very human readable, so even if you can find a copy of it on the local hard drive, you'll have lots of fun sorting through it to find the bits and pieces you want to recover.:censored:ing Apple.
