good morning all, cold day for lots of us. 27 out going up to 50 in sunshine. I believe it will be brisk. Even with a high of only 50
I have to open the greenhouse door on a sunny day, gets over 100 in there, too hot for the little guys.

yeah, woodworking and living on a boat presents challenges. What I need is a 1500sf rancher and a big shed out back to work in. But sure am having fun with this greenhouse too, and it wasn't expensive. If I could take my hot tub and greenhouse with me, that would be nice.

Good morning! 38˚F heading to the high 50s, the South winds have started so it will be a pleasant afternoon.

This morning is the annual spring clean-up at the gardens and I suspect the tractor will be needed so I need to get there early. About 40 people have signed up to get-er-done. The big jobs will be weeding the community herb garden and the native garden and mowing and weed eating.

I also need to check the results of my soil test the greenhouse SIG completed. The water is alkaline here in the limestone central Texas hill country and quite often needs to be amended with an acid to obtain the best vegetable garden PH which is between 6 and 6.8 (slightly acidic).

Went to Giddings last week, their feed store had seed red potatoes which I will cut up this week and let harden after I dust them with sulfur.

This is a fast growing area and last year one feed store was taken down and an Academy Sports and outdoors was built. The other feed store ran out of seed potatoes last month.

Good morning. I had company when I set out to check on the sheep. The dog made it no more than 15 human paces before deciding he would do what he needed and turn back, with my wife in agreement as the the wind and rain chased them back inside. Storm "Dennis" is here, trying with some success to force rain under the weatherboard of the west facing front door. A good day for staying inside, if only to keep moping the floor before the water spreads sideways and marks the skirting boards.
Fortunately there is a really good small bookshop in town which we visited earlier this week and this weather is the perfect excuse to indulge in a few quiet chapters by the fireside before the next storm hits tomorrow - the grandkids !

Would appreciate if you could keep the cold weather over your side of the Atlantic for a few more days to warm up a little before sending anything else our way.

I got creative and decided to make her a flower myself.

Very good Phil ! When did you realise there was knot enough time to grow one from seed ?

Ordered a EA wicked root rake last night. Bought my kubota with 3rd function so just need to add the right matching coupler to the front.

Heading to VA to pick up my wife.

Last week I bought Pink Floyd The Wall DVD, I loved that movie when it came out. Watched it last night, then threw the DVD in the trash afterwards. Guess my taste has changed. I like the music, but that’s one weird movie.

Been fighting a cold. I sure don’t need to get sick. I am still in the hole on vacation days at work. They let me go a week negative when I got GBS, as it was 2 weeks before Short term disability kicked in.
Plus I’m starting a new project where I get to do some python programming.

RNG better hope that tank doesn’t pop in a fire.

Thanks for the tractor tips, guys. I'll probably end up coming into the terrace from the low side with the bucket, but first I'll try to clean up the spoils on that lower bench so I'll have something smooth and level to work from.

I found some longer 2x2 stock yesterday and made up some stakes that let me shoot a level line at all six holes last night. Almost 3' in elevation change in 8' of run on that hill. I shot another level line on the propane tank pad, and it looks like about 6" difference between the two pad locations.

Neighbor was talking about going to a gun show this morning, but I remember the high prices and junk at the past few I've been to, so I might take a pass.

RNG, behind the easy stuff is need for quality local medical care, including a good hospital. That cuts out living in the boonies.

Lake living is expensive, finite amount of frontage, my budget is fairly low. But I did see a perfectly nice renovated rancher with a dock with ocean access
for 150k in Delaware not far from my friends. Way up river and that makes it a bit calmer.

They said it floods constantly there though in super high tides. Always thought it smart to be near the water and not in it, so
would he happier at least 20 feet above sea level. With a dock nearby. Only inland boating, my neck would never take bouncing around offshore again.
I've done a lot of that so ok to leave it behind. Having a boat again would be fun. Might even learn to fish for my dinner.
RNG is right about lakes though, nice and calm usually and no flooding usually. Big houseboat on a lake. Again, need to be near civilization for foodshopping, etc.
Center of NC has some nice lakes and I bet a lot of expensive lake homes lining the shore. Maybe the trick is to stay off the shore line and just be close where your boat is at a dock or on on a lift preferably. Of course, even if you don't go "out there" in the ocean, there's something special about the view looking out into the ocean, into the unknown, the vast. Very humbling when you get past the sight of all land. So peeking out is good too...just can't crash through a lot of waves any more.

in 1988 I bought a Honda Foreman 350 from Lancaster Honda in PA, owned by life long friends of mine, husband and wife, devoted to each other, selling motorcycles and lawn mowers. That 4wd ATV has been kept in a shed next to a mountain cabin in Margaretville NY, in the Catskill Mountains, about a mile up from the road, long dirt road all grassed over. Been going there since early 70's when we both got out of college and he bought this very inexpensive cabin in the mountains, that to this day still doesn't have electricity. Not hard to learn to live without, for a little while.

They are sending me the latest pics of the ATV which literally looks almost new, very good care over the years, still has low hours. Fairly uncomfortable and slow, but meant to work, not play and go anywhere. Hauled a lot of wood up there over the years. And I will stop and see my Honda dealership owner friends on the way back from PA next trip up. Thought they would find the pictures fun. When they first got together as a couple, they lived on our farm for a year or two.

RNG this is when you need a BH.

If you don't have one you will have to make the initial digs by hand for the tires of the tractor to be level as you cut sideways into the hill. Or work from the downside of the hill (the tractor at 90˚ from the pad) and try to start the level tie area with the FEL -but you might not be able to go forward while digging if it's too steep.

If you have a blade (not box blade) you could back into the area and make pulled cuts with the angled blade.

You could build a retaining wall on the low side and then fill it up with dirt with your FEL

It looks good on the top of that level hill. My mom has a 250 gallon tank. She just had it filled cost of butane here is $2.07 a gallon.
Oh, regular gasoline today $1.84 at Walmart.

A clear and sunny -1ºF for today’s low temperature; a clear and sunny 15ºF presently; and I expect a clear and sunny afternoon with high temperature in the mid20ºF’s. I am feeling the ill-effects of overindulgence from last night’s St. V celebrations. My chicken marsala came out really well. Dump run accomplished; at some point I will strap on the crampons and walk the dog. It’s a beautiful day to enjoy the outdoors (and count birds). I had a rare visitor- a ruffed grouse. Our efforts and that of the abutting Land Trust’s to bring back ruffed grouse may be starting to pay off.

Buppies- I hope the biopsy comes back negative.

22F this morning, frosty grass outside.. looking out my office window, I see the Canadian geese in the field across the road.. only 6 or so. The pheasants and quail have been plentiful also.

Got a call last night after dinner, wife's father and a sister were T-boned in auto accident, both were life flighted to Harborview in Seattle, too critical for Spokane (happened in Moses Lake, center part of Washington state). He has broken femur, broken pelvis, kidney problems and she has broken ribs and pelvis.. My wife went last night, got there about 2:30am and was able to see them for awhile before checking in to local hotel for some sleep..

My FIL is 95yr old, had just got healed up from a broken ribs and arm he got from a falling a few months ago.. SIL is in her 70s.

Life happens, just take one step at a time..

The changes since summer are nothing short of a miracle. I feel like a normal human again. Not at 100% but vastly improved and improving day over day.

FBOW, me and the daughter planted some red potatoes (dusted in fireplace ashes), and also about 9 storebought white potatoes that had started spudding. So, it got up to about 61F and then the sun went to hiding. We also got the small front flower garden amended with some sand and fertilizer. Used the new gator's dump bed to haul about 1/3 of a yard of sand. Also planted a bunch of seeds in seed trays. Daughter has a decent sized Aloe Vera in a pot, that had spawned about 6 small ones to the side, so we transplanted those.

I'm helping a coworker that was trying to get something done using python programming....I'll be using my MasterCam to produce the required Gcode for laying down live cells in a particular direction.

FWIW, I repaired my old small Bissell Little Green vacuum machine today. Almost had to curse to get it back together. Fitment of so many molded parts all at once. It needed a new $10 small water pump inside. Old one had rusted. Before anyone else attempts it, I'd recommend the dumpster, save your time, and go buy a new model maybe. We use ours for cleaning up accidents on the carpet. Very handy for that.

RNG, that's a big tank there. I'd be tempted to buy a couple of those concrete stops they use in parking lots. Get them close and attach them to the 2 feet on the bottom of the tank. Almost anything short of a full slab will still settle and move. The advantage of the parking lot stop is, you can lift one side at a time and throw a little sand under them to re-level them in the future. I'm guessing that you might want that tank to have one end ever so slightly higher to help the liquid pool at the pickup tube end. (For your liquid bottle filler).

Took daughters to Whataburger today. I got a mushroom swiss burger, they got chicken tenders.

Drew, I would recommend you stay off boats and ATV's until you figure out what your spine/neck needs are. Prayers.

PJ, frozen eggs only has happened here once. We did a full coop cleaning today. As always, I made them wear respirators (per Don's warning link). We moved their cage/coop over to fresh ground too. Chicken manure and pine shavings go into the compost pile.

I sure wish I knew if we had any more freezes headed our way this year. Rick, do you have any ideas about late freezes here? I looked on 10 day model and it shows a close one next Friday.
