It's a BIG'UN!

The old one's out of the way, and now I have to figure out how to make a level pad for the new one. Anybody got any pointers on how to do that with the FEL or box blade? I'm starting with about 5 degrees of slope. Sorta like

In other words, about 3' of more or less level ground up next to the retaining wall, then sloping downhill at about a five degree angle. It also slopes left to right, but not as steeply...

Can you put the tank on 2x2' patio slabs?

Yeah, but (there's always a but) the patio slabs have to sit on level ground.

I'd rather pour a pair of 3' x 3' slabs, but even those need to be level with each other. I can measure if they're level, I'm just trying to figure out if there's an easy way to do the digging with the tractor instead of a shovel.:D

RNG this is when you need a BH.

If you don't have one you will have to make the initial digs by hand for the tires of the tractor to be level as you cut sideways into the hill. Or work from the downside of the hill (the tractor at 90˚ from the pad) and try to start the level tie area with the FEL -but you might not be able to go forward while digging if it's too steep.

If you have a blade (not box blade) you could back into the area and make pulled cuts with the angled blade.

You could build a retaining wall on the low side and then fill it up with dirt with your FEL

It looks good on the top of that level hill. My mom has a 250 gallon tank. She just had it filled cost of butane here is $2.07 a gallon.
Oh, regular gasoline today $1.84 at Walmart.

Getting a late start on GM today. I had another terrible night trying to sleep, started at 9:30, tossed and turned until 2 am.... then only an hour sleeping, up a bit, then another... could not wake up early as usual....

Then of course the garage door installers actually showed up on time... imagine that! They finished up around 1 this afternoon. They did a really good job. A helper was clumsy, I witnessed a dance he did trying not to fall on the door panels. He was jumping on one foot at a time, bouncing side to side over the 2 stacks of panels, totally off balance, nuts and bolts flying out of his work patches. He made it all the way from about midpoint to past the doors. I actually laughed out loud..... could not help it... wish I had a video of it. Main installer told him to slow down. I think he was new and trying to impress the main guy. He did save the panels, no damage.

Then went into the shop taking advantage of some warmer weather (54 degrees). I got the next end table assembled. Tomorrow I will start on the finish. Drew, these will be done in Early American stain / boiled linseed oil, hand rubbed. It will take a few coats. Gives a nice sheen and good protection. When I get the first coat on them I will take some pics. I want to get the tables done first and in the house. Then I will make the doors. Those will be stile and rail with punched metal inserts. Gonna take me some time to make.

Hawkeye, prayers and thoughts to you and family. Hope their surgeries go well and they can start healing.

RNG, can you back up the slope perpendicular and dig from the low side? That is a big tank. You could just pour above ground without digging, just level the forms. One would be thicker but ... it would work....

It is nice to hear that I am not the only one forgetting about implements on the back of the tractor:D:eek:
Bruce, you have an excuse with the boat / trailer.... it was dark.

Check, Jasper still looks cold.... our Airedale used to love the snow, we always had a hard time getting her in.

mpham. Nice paracord roses.

Everyone have a great weekend!

Son s new garage door:

Big indeed !

No advice on pad though, sorry.

More progress
Able to get mauka gutter installed, except for end that will tie into tank. I used 3/4x51/2 pvc board for fascia. Mixed thoughts on that.

Downspout and tie-in to tank will be on this end.

Too windy to attempt placing roof panels, maybe tomorrow.

I used mortar sand and loader and back blade to do mine under the relatively small 500 gallon propane tank.

Good evening all. 26F for the start, clearing sky, light breeze. Clear sky for most of day, light to moderate wind withe moderate to brisk gusts, high temp was 50F. Slow start, got roses for wife at Costco yesterday, so started with rekindle the fire, and fill the wood wagon. Did wash the dishes and made her a malt for desert tonight, so she is happy camper. Bike ride early afternoon, and putter rest of day.
Eric hope you catch a break from the wind!
Phil that how much of the heavier snow I remember from Missouri, made great snow balls not so much fun to push.
Drew, let see now, you are going to live aboard and wood work, will need to see the video on that  Nice pics
Thomas sounds like you have multiple herds at your house!
James I remember -40F, 8,000 in C402 right seat and heater failed going into Palwaukee, IL. Lear flew in about 5 minutes later, his heater failed at -50F
PJ man that is cold when the eggs freeze.
RNG sorry about the forgotten items, any chance some or all at Chico location?
Hawkeye sounds ugly, more prayers
Drew, you forgaot the lowly bicyclists :confused3:
RNG that is a BIG tank.
Phil, nice rope flower
Ted looking forward to pics of woodworking, nice garage door.
David, good to hear about progress, pics ;lost their .jpg extension, cannot download.
prayers for all.

-11 (minus 11) right now...high in the mid-20's today.
Other than hitting the drive and walks...no plans today. There's not a lot of snow...maybe an additional inch or so, but I reckon I'd better get it.

Good morning, the temp came up overnight, 10 above zero. Going to a high of 23°F. Wind SW 17 gusting to 25 mph.
60% chance of flurries. We got about an inch overnight.

Nothing planned for today, an energy conservation day.

Have a safe day all

19 going to 43. Nice to have winter back for a spell. Now need a snow to be the icing on the cake.

Hawkeye, prayers said.

check, Jasper is really dressed to the nines.

RNG, you wouldn't be planning on going into the LP tank refill business for your area, would you?

Phil, great flower. Those kind don't grow around here :).

For those of you that like to drag rear implements into your driveway, etc...got an email from Everything Attachments last night...5% off their implements and free shipping (probably not to HI or CA) - sale good today only. I have their grapple and very pleased...and some of you have purchased their stuff.

Prepped all the ingredients for my first Instant Pot meal yesterday to surprise my wife...when she came home last night, after staying to care for her mom for a week, she brought some Chinese take out which was great. So today I'll cook. If you haven't tried the "official" Instant Pot phone app, it's pretty cool...step by step directions, with built in timer for each step...also the list of ingredients needed/grocery shopping list can be sent to your email, a text or some other app with a couple of clicks...I sent mine to my Memo (notepad) app, and went to the store, although I had most of what I needed.
