Good Morning!!!! 50F @ 6:00AM. Mostly cloudy skies with a few showers this afternoon. High 59F. Winds SE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 30%.

I can't make a recommendation for a game camera, DIF, but I can tell you two to avoid. First one I tried was a Moultrie Trace Premise Pro Surveillance Camera, and the images were extremely poor. To the point of being useless for any security purpose, like reading a license plate or being able to identify someone. It got sent back for a refund. Next I tried a Stealth Cam Dual Sensor, which I still have, and it takes good photos, but isn't sensitive enough to catch small animals even close to the lens. So you'll have to rely on advise from others that have had more luck with them than I have.

Happy days to the birthday boys! Many happy returns, gentlemen!

Looking forward to pics of your new trailblazing project, Drew!
And yes, diet is very much a matter of naming your poison and taking your chances.:muttering:

Busy day yesterday. Got confirmation on the generator, which should ship today. And not with either OnTrack or SAIA! I'm told it's coming via FedEx ground freight. And that I'll get a tracking number later today.

Got a call back from a tech at AT&T, who promised to trace my landline and let me know what dependencies it has in the event of a power outage. Pretty much a useless exercise because I already know that the line goes down when the power is off for more than a day or so. I asked what plans were in place to ensure that either the batteries or fuel lasted longer in the radio links that replaced the old copper lines, and got no answer. I also asked about the charges levied during the long phone outage post Camp Fire, and got no answer on that, either.

My Chase bank/Amazon credit card was compromised last week, and the replacement finally showed up yesterday. It was sent UPS next day air, and should have been delivered last Saturday, but a snafu at UPS caused two more days of delay. When I let Chase know, they reactivated my old card, but just for Amazon purchases, and only until yesterday when the new card was activated. UPS? All I got from them were excuses and useless apologies.

Card in hand, I was able to pay for my homeowners insurance, but only after a call to my agent to confirm that even after a 40% increase in the premium, it's the only game in town if I want insurance. He is checking if he can find a better rate for the truck and van, though. For now, I'll have to be content with the $26.77 that the 1% rebate earns me on the Amazon card.

I've got a drainage problem under the shipping container, due to water not flowing like I thought it would through the road base gravel used to make the ramps. I lifted the low corner and added another 1/2" of shim to the pier, but I have a bad feeling it'll just sink again. One more trench for the neighbor to dig when he's on site next week.

It's looking like Friday or Saturday before the holes for the solar panel grid get augered, but that's fine. I still need to get level measurements of their locations, which I hope to do today.

My internist wants to go over the MRI results with me, but he's in Scotland with family and wants to use Skype. That doesn't work over my satellite link, so I'll drop by his office later this week while I'm in town for groceries and use their connection instead.

Finished off the day talking to a fellow that makes high temperature fire safes, rated to withstand 1800F for two hours before the interior reaches 350F. The problem I've had with other makers is a much lower rating, both temperature wise and time wise, and their inability to find someone equipped to move such a heavy thing, nearly a ton, into place. This new guy says he has several contacts in the area, so we'll see how that works out.

Today I hope to get through to the propane man that was supposed to be tracking down a 1000 gallon tank to feed the generator. This is his last chance to show progress; it's been nearly three months of excuses and "oh, I forgot".

I use this laptop computer for nearly everything, but I also keep some duplicate records on a notebook computer for a backup; both are HP brand; both running Windows 10. But for reasons unknown, this computer stopped receiving my emails 4 days ago. I cannot find any reason or way to fix it. Emails come in just fine on the little computer and on my cell phone.:confused3: It's just plain weird, but I've finally given up on figuring it out and have an appointment this morning with the Geek Squad at Best Buy for them to try to correct it.:confused3:

41 going to 49 and cloudy...made for a nice sunrise.

Happy Birthdays Bird and drivesitfar!!!

DIF, very attractive fences...either would be a winner. As far as game cams, I've had a number of different ones, but not sure any I could recommend above just finding a good sale price.

Had a 8:30am dentist appointment yesterday, so skipped breakfast...had the usual cleaning with scraper, water-pik, floss and polisher and was due for x-rays..so was in the chair a full hour...everything looked good, so took my wife to Tex-Mex to celebrate as well as needed to hit Costco. When we walked in, got a notification from Amazon about a special deal on Instant Pot--- between them and Google, they know when to send you ads, right? Well, walked over to the aisle with the IPs, and finally broke down and bought one. You guys seem to be having so much "fun" with them. Also went to Trader Joes for a few things...saw the Ezekiel 4:9 bread and the lady working the aisle praised the loaf next to it...TJ's "Daily Bread" as a similar, but in her opinion, a softer, better option, so picked up a loaf to try today. Of course, got crumpets, too. Saw Dave's Killer bread at Costco.

Based on weather forecast, think I'll go back outside and pick up the half-rounds I already cut, and split until I fill up the pallet. Then I've got one pallet I need to move and mend.

RNG, is there something special about 350F that is used to rate safes? is it for propane or is that just a random number used, and is 1800 the temp of a big forest/brush fire or house fire? Curious because thinking about a safe, too.

Bird: sometimes on the email server you can hit your max amount of emails without any warning so you might have to delete some. since it's your birthday it might wait til tomorrow, but maybe a good time to catch up on old emails and say hi to old friends and maybe delete the emails you don't need.

Thank you everybody so far for the Birthday wishes, the nice fence and yard kudos and for any help on game cameras and security.

cheers (just ice tea until later then maybe we'll open one of the bottles of red sitting on a rack our kids and friends tend to fill up).

Good morning to all! Low of 21, going up to 45. It got windy starting yesterday afternoon, gusts to 55. Stayed windy until sometime late last night. At least the wind cleared all the clouds away. We only got a few sprinkles, that was disappointing.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BIRD AND DRIVESITFAR !. :drink:

Drew, looks like a job well done to give you access to the area. How far to the pond from there? Looks like the woods are pretty heavy.... lots of work to clear trails....

RNG, sorry to hear about your drainage woes, not easy to fix once the unit was placed.... I am sure you will find a solution.
It seems like more and more that UPS is messing up, we have had recent issues with them also.... I wonder what they changed in their system?
Good luck for the start of the solar project!

Bruce, I do have a set of turned table legs, but I have to make the frame / apron that goes around between them. It should not be too hard, but I am going to put a small drawer under the table, opposite of the drop leaf.

And that was to be todays project, start with the table legs / frame, but first, I have to take wifey grocery shopping. That should only eat up a couple of hours, so hopefully some time will be left to get into working on the table.

Here are some progress pics of the tops. I did get them completed yesterday. For those wondering, they are white oak.

Everyone have a great day!

Happy birthday Bird and Drives!

Soup is terrific! I’ll make it again soon. Next thing I’m doing though is BLT pizza, I love it and haven’t made one in probably a year.

Had an appointment this morning, washed clothes, and other random boring stuff.

39 and sunny earlier, 43 and thickening clouds in the last hour. I’m wearing shorts because I had to get a pressure wrap on my leg, it’s a bit chili for that. Speaking of chili, the pot I made for church was excellent, in a pretty good cook if I do have to tell myself! LOL

Have a good one men. Prayers.

Oh, forgot, I like the one without the lattice better. They are both nice, but the lattice would have more maintenance to it, and I feel it is a weak point in fencing. That may not be the case in your area, but here, the wind usually just beats lattice to pieces!

RNG, is there something special about 350F that is used to rate safes? is it for propane or is that just a random number used, and is 1800 the temp of a big forest/brush fire or house fire? Curious because thinking about a safe, too.

Remember Ray Bradbury's 451 Fahrenheit? 451F is supposed to be the temperature at which paper ignites, but it starts to char at a little over 350F, at least according to the safe man I spoke with. It's also the temperature at which wood starts to char, plastic melts or warps, and "blue" on firearms is destroyed. And 1800F is significant because that turns out to be the temperature when steel starts to soften and warp, which compromises the integrity of the safe body. Once the door seal is broken, hot gasses can enter the interior of the safe and destroy the contents. So what I'm learning is to pick a safe with at least an 1800F temperature rating, and as long a time rating as you can find. Then place the safe on an outside wall, so when the burning house or building collapses, there won't be as much fuel around it, hopefully reducing both the temperature and the time the safe spends soaking in high temperatures.

Security wise, a strong frame around the door, coupled with a very tight fit, pretty much eliminates being able to pry the door open. The safe man gave one of his safes to the local fire department, who then used their hydraulic spreaders and "jaws of life" to try and open it. They failed. They did manage to get in using their giant chainsaw engine driven abrasive cutter, but it took 'em a while. And they had to go in through the body, as the bolts are designed to spin if hit by an abrasive wheel or saw, and the door has more than an inch of steel to get through.

The other lesson is that the budget for the safe should reflect the value of what it will store. If all you need is to keep little fingers off your 10/22, you'll be fine with something from the gun store or Costco. The family jewels or grandpa's Purdey are a different story, though.

29°F and light to moderate snow this morning, going up to 35° today. Drove through some light to moderate snow squalls on the way to work this morning. By the time I got to Troy IL, the ground was covered, and traffic was moving about 20mph on US-40. We weren't supposed to get any snow until tomorrow. Oops. The iThingie shows no snow for tomorrow, but the NWS radar says otherwise. There is a sizable blob heading our way. Voice on the radio this morning suggested 1-3", depending on location.

Happy birthday to Bird and DIF.

Table tops are looking good, Ted. Can't go wrong with oak, red or white.

A raw, overcast 26ºF for today’s low; the present overcast 31ºF presently may be today’s high temperature as this weak, slow moving cold front rolls on through. It looks more likely that a coastal storm will form the weekend but what type of precipitation will fall and where it tracks is still not well defined.

Happy Birthday Bird and Drives!!!!!!!!!! I wish you many more in good health and happiness.

Drew- Your entrance path looks good. Good luck with the rest of the path.

RNG- I hope that your generator ships without incident, you find a permanent solution to your drainage challenge, your auger sites level, and you have a + MRI review with your internist.

Ted- Another awesome woodworking project. Thanks for sharing.

Randy- A BLT pizza reads to be good eats.

Rich and Hawkeye- Good luck with the transitioning.

I hope that everyone is having a decent Tuesday.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.
