8 degrees right now...high about 20 today.

Since Thomas and jbrumberg brought up snow squalls, one hit while I was driving north (home) on I-89...a few miles north of the Woodstock/Quechee exit. Blowing hard and visibility was nil. The only way I knew I was on the road was by watching the guardrail on the right side of the highway. It also got very dark for about 5 minutes. Fortunately, it was a fasting moving storm and passed in about 10-15 minutes.

I don't see the 6.4 pounds in 2 days. Where is it? I do see this quote:
"the amount of purine from various foods consumed over the 2-day period was based on dietary recall according to the serving size and number of servings of each food consumed; thus, recall bias is possible."

On page 7 it states that 1.66g of purines is the equivalent of about 1.4kg of meat. Then in Table 2 it said that the median purine intake over the 2 days in Quintile 5 was 3.48g. So I did the math and came up with 2.935kg, or 6.47 lbs of meat equivalent. Since 3.48g was the median, there were some who ate more purines than this. They likely ate other purine foods besides meat, but the other food purine reference was spinach, which would have had to have been 13 lbs, a lot of spinach. I hope I did the math right.

One of the companion articles said cherries reduced the risk of gout by 35%.

Good morning all.
Last 24 hours hasn't been good here, picked up a bug from somewhere, spent most of yesterday in bed with electric blanket turned up.
Plus I had a bit of a scare with a numbness attack down my left arm and over my ribcage. Two choices, one not good for sure, but arthritis guy is confident it was caused by my hauling all those heavy boxes downstairs. Two episodes, both about 15 minutes long, and zero residual, feel fine now, at least there. Very strange feeling and I will head in to primary doc or ER if it happens again. Never had heart problems and just passed comprehensive lab tests. Just a reminder to me that I really need to downsize and simplify.

So I am sitting here trying to stop sweating from shower. Not a good day for taking it easy either, have 4 dozen cupcakes and a batch of brownies to bake for garden club meeting tomorrow, my turn on refreshments.

Toppop, what a great looking tractor. My 1230, 22 years old, one size larger than yours, has the same step! Dealer installed
a step for the prior owner, his BIL, and it's been nice to have, just have to make sure I don't slip on edge. a little rubber pad might be helpful.

Roy, sounds like a scary drive. These sudden whiteouts (fogouts?)seem to be a big factor in the multi car pileups recently.

Good morning, the temp is -14°F and going to a high of 19. Wind calm. 30% chance of flurries.

My cousin and I were not all that close. Whenever my parents and I were at the farm, she was away at school, teaching. I have talked to her face to face about 4 times in 73 years. She is the one that held a doctorate in English and taught at NYU.
She is also the one that, after her sister died was running around between lawyers in Cayuga, ON (30 miles west of the farm) and Hamilton and not getting much sleep. She fell asleep at the wheel and motored into a guardrail, lost the front bumper with license plated attached and continued on home. It took the cops exactly one day to find her at home with the car. When they asked for a DL she produced an Ontario DL that that was issued in 1942. She didn't need a DL in New York, she lived in Manhatten and walked or took the train wherever she wanted to go, so she never thought of renewing it. She got charged with 'leaving the scene', paid the fine and carried on with life. I don't think they charged her with driving without a license. She readily admitted to me that her sister was the 'driver' of the family and that she wasn't all that good at it. Now I am here to tell you that the road she wrecked the car on is heavily travelled by farm machinery AND trucks. She is dam lucky she didn't cross the line and get a truck in her lap. This road is two lanes with a 50 mph speed limit except for towns. I used to run across that road (Hwy 3) myself. It was/is a good way to get around the scales at Woodstock, ON.

I've got a town run today and gas up the Dodge. In winter I never let the tank get below 1/2. Come to think about it, I never let the tank get below 1/2 in summer either.

Have a good day all

Good morning all. I have been doing a lot of sliding in mud after last nights rain. Should have lifted down some bales for feed yesterday while it was still dry :duh:

Don, the most simple and reliable indication of battery status is to measure the voltage at the terminals after the vehicle has been stood for a while. If it drops down to 12.0V or less, then it hasn't been getting enough charge i.e. not driven often enough or for long enough.
With a healthy, fully charged battery, it should take at least a couple of weeks of being parked up to get to this point. Assuming no faults, if this keeps happening after only being parked for 2 or 3 days, then the battery capacity has gone right down.

Ideally I like to see lead acid batteries keeping up above 12.4 V, or their life is going to be significantly reduced. I will take a closer look at just how much current is being wasted in our cars once I get these batteries replaced.

Feel your pain Ron. It痴 supposed to get down to 60ー here tonight and up to 77ー tomorrow.

I値l throw a jacket in the tractor tomorrow ... in your honor, while running the tractor cab A/C.

Maybe Ron will remind you of the nice cold temps come August when you are reporting the 100s :).

24 going to 43 and sunny.

DABSGT, nice eagle pic...looks like some smaller birds nearby ready to chase it, too.

Jay, that Big Green Egg looks pretty lonely out there in the snow.

Randy, smart to have that step installed, but Rick's elevator method sounds good, too.

Paul, I couldn't see your new Shropshire cottage since it's on FB. Maybe take some pix next time you're there and post here :). Also good that you have a mortar and welding guy down the road to call when you need help.

Got all my rounds split and stacked yesterday, and brought some dry wood onto the porch ahead of rain this weekend.

Got a question for you Bird,
With your AAA what do they do with these new cars with no spares?
My wife was wanting me to get AAA for her till she saw the price.
Thanks

I have no idea what they would do. I only started with AAA about 14 years ago when we had to move back to town and I decided it might be a good idea for my wife driving on city streets. But I've called AAA twice to come here to the house; once to change a flat tire and once to jump start the car with a dead battery,. But for quite some time now, our homeowners insurance and our auto insurance are with AAA; haven't been able to beat their prices anywhere else.

Thanks, we are going to do without it for now.
My homeowners/farm policy is thru a local co-op, excellent service and decent pricing.

It's supposed to be Winter, ain't it?:confused3: 53 degrees going for a high of 67 today. We're supposed to have some rainy weather the next 3 days. We had steak, taters, and salad yesterday, but my wife suggested chili for today, so since chili always tastes better the second day, after all the flavors have had time to blend together, I made a big pot of chili yesterday for today. I've got to go to physical therapy this morning, and nothing else planned for today.

Drinking first cup of coffee. 19° with mostly clear skies this morning. Heading to 41° with sun early then clouds. Not going to complain about cold when I see Looking has -14° this morning.
After doing some research on top link. I decided to send kit back to Agristore. Ordered a new cylinder with check valve. Will probably sell old one.
Sassy is a happy dog today. Took fence in dining room down and let her have full run of the house.

Wngsprd, Rick may have a bad memory when it comes to heat. I guess your splitter started OK.

Don, giving my dogs a bath got a lot easier when my son showed me a wand he uses to wash his dogs. Not sure Wipper would like it. Waterpik Pet Wand.

Eric, on my motorhome. A battery at 12.0 volts was considered discharged. Not sure you can get the Battery Saver in UK. But it sure works good keeping a battery charged and maintained.

Randy, nice step. I am using the step on my tractor more often. It is on left side of tractor. I walk all the way around instead of taking that big step up on right side.

Bird I had AAA for over 50 years. One year I called to put my Motor Home in storage for a few months. The AAA agent did not do it. Blamed me for not telling him. He did remember to put car back out of storage. Cost me $500. Had house and cars with them. Now have a local MI company. Less money and better coverage on house and car.

David, cutting wet grass. Hard on equipment?

RNG, sure would be a great thing if Van was a done project. Good luck moving forward with it.

Good Morning All.

1. Start tractor from the ground.

2. Lower MMM deck.

3. Step onto MMM deck.

4. Raise MMM deck.

5. Step off of your "MF elevator".

The deck is in my tractor building collecting dust, and the safety switch makes that a bit difficult too.
And don’t be calling my deck an MF’r!

But ... I do have a good memory on where the A/C controls are on both tractors.

Good Morning!!!! 48F and raining @ 4:00AM. Cloudy and damp with rain, heavy at times, this morning. Becoming partly cloudy late. High 56F. E winds shifting to NW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall around a half an inch.

I had AAA insurance at my place in the SF Bay Area, and when I first moved up here. They jacked the rates by $100/year for a couple years, then dropped the detailed maps of the area, so I switched insurance companies. Now, like just about every insurance company, they won't write a policy in this area because of the wildfire danger, but they still send me mail telling me what a good deal they'll make me on my insurance.:confused2:

Nothing would make me happier than being able to turn my attention to finishing the interior of the van, Ron, but until the engine is running reliably (it's still throwing an error code, and cold starting is a problem), I'm stuck with my head in the engine bay trying to figure out what's going on. Yesterday I replaced the fuel pressure regulator, but the problems remain. Yesterday I also put together a long post for a pretty good Subaru/Vanagon forum, so my fingers are crossed that an expert will take pity on me and share a few insights.

Cleaned up the office area a little bit and got back some desktop space, generating another pile of paper for the burn pile in the process. Still more to do in there, and with today's rain, I'll keep chipping away at it.

Hang in there, gang, Friday's comin'!
