Happy New Year to all my tractor friends! Happy Birthday also.
27 here going to around 33. Had some more light snow overnight, not enough to clean up. Still trying to scrape some of the ice off the driveway at the apartment house.
Will be visiting relatives most of the day to enjoy holiday festivities.(really good food too!) Hopefully won't eat to much and get sick.
Up early this morning with more gout joint pain. Rheumatoid doc wants me to try steroids for six weeks to see if it will go away. Not sure what the next step is if it doesn't work. I don't eat or drink most of the trigger foods for gout.
I will now start my countdown to my Thomas day in October as it is now under 200 work days left to go.(Can't wait. The days are dragging now!)
Hope everyone is safe and health for the new year!

Countdown is on.

I can start drawing a retirement this year, not sure if I will actually retire, but around 300 days if I do.

David/Mpham, sorry about the gout pain, that doesn't sound like fun. Delighted you are on the final countdown.

retired neighbor from across the street, who I loaned a generator to, brought over containers of leftover cornbread, black eyed peas and collards. Collards were cooked with small potatoes, I snitched one and it was delicious. Definitely looking forward to dinner. He even made it relatively low salt.
Got all my jobs done today, washed the UTV, and looking forward to pruning the fruit orchard tomorrow in nice weather. 78 degrees now predicted for
Sat night pushing in the rains.

I just finished my lunch or dinner or whatever you want to call it near 1 p.m. I had canned blackeyed peas with snaps, Glory brand (we'd never tried before) "seasoned, southern style, mixed greens" that were very tasty, cornbread muffins (buttered, of course), sliced tomatoes, and slices of a sweet onion. As far as I'm concerned, it just doesn't get much better than that.

The only thing new or different was the Glory brand greens; a big 27 oz. can and says it's "slow simmered with onion, garlic, and spices in a savory broth." It was our first time to try this brand, but it won't be the last.

Snow melting, around 40F, breeze blowing from south. Had a few power outages yesterday with the snow, maybe 30 seconds each, 3 times I think. I think I fell asleep a few minutes before midnight.. a few neighbors set off some fireworks. We stay home.. wife invited some friends over for dinner this afternoon.. Ham and scalloped potatoes on menu.

Happy New Year everyone.

A brief moment of sun lit up*the tree tops' ice and then it clouded over to the morning's low temperature of 28ºF; 30ºF presently with increasing sunshine. I am hoping there is enough sun to at least start to melt things around here.

3.75" of frozen precipitation with this weather event. Our driveway was nasty frozen this morning. I've never seen this frozen mix before (or at least cannot remember). Today was a day that I wished I had a rear blade. My box blade saw some serious action today once I got it unstuck from the frozen ground; FEL too.

Rich- Nice bike

Drew- It's always refreshing to read about individuals like your helper. Despite the language/cultural differences in CR I have always felt safe and welcomed. I can not say that for cities around here.

Happy Birthday Kekoa

Happy Birthday Mrs. Bird/Margaret. I wish you many more in health and happiness

Happy Birthday Roy. I wish you many more and hope your expectations for today were/are exceeded.

Phil- I am sorry to read about your gout and the need for steroid medication. I hope the steroids work and that you can be tapered off. Good luck

Bird- Your lunch reads to be good eats.

I hope that everyone is having a decent January 1, 2020.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers

We Get Glory brand canned goods here, I like them, but I can稚 eat canned stuff much anymore because of the salt.

Randy, I worry about my wife and the huge amount of sale she uses. I think she pours salt on everything she eats, and she eats lots of salty chips and crackers. I almost never add salt to what I eat, but I figure I probably get more salt than I need.

Not good at all...worse if she has high blood pressure.
I don't use much salt (hardly at all) as a condiment...but there's plenty in many of the foods I eat.

Happy Birthday Kekoa I missed that beautiful pup

A good substitute for salt is lime juice or a very little salt and lime juice. Hmm sounds like a margarita.

I hardly ever add salt to food. It usually has too much already.

I cooked slow cooker black eyed peas with lots of non salt seasonings, no yolk noodles, Eastern Cherokee style fry bread, and some ham for Ellen. It all turned out quite good. Would have had greens but I forgot to buy them yesterday.

We did our black eyed peas in the Instant Pot. No soaking and done in less than 45 minutes.

BEP’s, smoked ham hock, onions, minced garlic, fine chopped jalapeños and bacon.

Sautéed the onions, cut up bacon, and minced garlic in some olive oil then added BEP’s, ham hock, jalapeños, 5 cups of water, two chicken bullion cubes, and a couple of bay leaves.

16 minutes at high pressure, natural release for 15 minutes, then vent. Throw away bay leaves, remove meat from ham hock and add meat back to the pot.

Have good luck for 366 days!

Good evening all. 39F this morning, overcast, light breeze. Moderate wind with brisk gusts, stayed overcast and high temp of 54F. Slow start this morning for some reason only stayed up to 10PM last night. Did do some bike maintenance, chain was really dirty and need fresh lube badly, got the rear wheel cleaned up as well. After lunch went for ride, gear shifting much better. Nap finished day off :). Mileage total was 6,150 and change.
Roy a belated Happy Birthday.
Drew nice message from your helper!
phil, enjoy your retirement! sorry to hear about gout.
Buckeye, hope you get to see your dad.
Don, nice garden pic
David belated happy birthday to Kekoa
Buckeye hope you can retire!
Bird, lunch sounded yummy.
Jay ice was always the most difficult to manage, especially inches of sleet.
Bird, Dr should be doing a sodium check as part of her annual physical.
Rick sounds like a good recipe.
prayers for all.
