When was all that going on, Lou? Scotty's Castle near Death Valley was running on generators and batteries back in the 30s. The battery room is still there, and full of old rubber bodied batteries, or at least it was before the floods of a few years back. That stuff looked old, but not as old as what you describe?

Much of that equipment was from the 50's and I have seen some from the 30's when places had the delco power plants.
It really wasn't that old, specialized industrial plants with early ups's in the northeast in the 70's chemical processing,
then when I went out west mineral processing into the late 70's these were in older plants at the time,
also some of the Bell repeater towers used them into the very late 70's.
A couple of them were using electric motor gen-sets with the batteries paralleled with the power feed to the electric motors.
With the advent of osha they didn't last long.

Good Morning!!!! 57F @ 6:00AM. Sunny. High 78F. Winds light and variable.

Probably take a stab at getting the shipping container a bit more level, then have another go at checking/adjusting those generator valves. But first a phone call to a solar power supplier I learned about last week.

Hope everyone's week gets off to a good start!

Good Morning everyone!!!!!

A clear and sunny 24ºF for today’s low temp; a clear and sunny 37ºF presently; and I anticipate increasing clouds and an afternoon high in the high 40ºF’s. I spoke with my mechanic this AM and he feels it’s probably a hung up brake caliper on the Tundra. I think today will be a good day to fire up the NH and drop the rotary cutter and attach the box blade….. just in case I’ll be moving snow later this week. I’ll spare everyone another round of maps at this point. ;)

RonJH- I am happy to read that Sassy has come out of hiding. She’s really cute. :)

Randy- Thanks for sharing Lynn’s final resting place. A beautiful spot.

RNG- Good luck with the solar power supplier.

I hope that everyone has a decent Monday.

My + thoughts and prayers.

41°F and partly cloudy this morning, going up to 56° today.

Stayed cooler that expected Saturday, so I didn't get much done outside. Did a whole bunch of puttering inside, though. Made a run to Fairview Heights (local shopping mecca) for a few things, stopped at Guitar Center for some new strings for the new guitar and a new set for the classical guitar, picked up lunch for the two of us at Noodles & Co., then home the rest of the day.

It got up in the mid-50s on Sunday, so I got some outside items checked off the honey-do list. Removed the old, rusted mailbox, and replaced it with a newer, bigger one. Then, got the new address post The Wife made a few weeks ago out of the garage and concreted into its new home at the end of the driveway.

Never did get out to mow the pasture one last time. Maybe next weekend.

Happy (belated) birthday to your bride, Thomas.

My Wife always liked the French onion soup at Panera (still called St. Louis Bread Co around here) as well, Mostly. I've always preferred their broccoli cheddar soup. I almost always ate their Sierra turkey sandwich. However, they took it off the menu about a year or so ago, but still had it available on the "secret" menu. Last time I was there, they didn't have it at all anymore.

Good luck with the new battery arrangement, David. Will there be any heat issues with them stacked over each other?

RNG - your talk about solar companies disappearing reminds me of a project our local church undertook. We partnered with a church in Cambodia to put solar panels on roof to provide power for computers and sewing machines. Teach and train young people so they have means of income and avoid sex traffic. They had the project all figured out, and were in the funding phase getting the needed money raised. While that was going on, the solar company went under, so they had to start over with the solar.. Good news, it worked out better in the end. A better system for less money. Team traveled to Cambodia and did the install. Great results.

I holding out hope that you too will get better results.

Stay safe and prayers for those in need.
