Poutine is a French Canadian dish. French fries with cheese curd on top and smothered in beef gravy. It is really good IF you like cheese curd and don't have a 'problem' with dairy products.

If I were going out in -20 weather, I think I'd like a filling meal of that first....sure going to get your calories.
Otherwise it doesn't sound very healthy but then neither were the french fries and brown gravy I ate in high school.
Sludge on a plate but salty and fatty and good. Until we got smarter...

Warm cloudy day, rain tonight, headed out to keep planting melons. Helper coming to put down hay in garden, I usually try to avoid Sunday mornings but this is quiet work and it's when he can come. After lunch I go plant flowers for a friend, and that should be it.

New Massey was dead as a door nail yesterday. Put a charger on it, started up fine later, wondering what ran the battery down.
Sure was impressed with the hood on that thing, pull a ring and the whole big hood rises up on hydraulic stuts, no effort at all and slowly stops at top. Worked so well almost wanted to do it again...and it pulled down pretty easily too.

Then took off rear cultivator from little Massey, which is now temporarily on back of neighbors new 3032E JD, and I put my carryall back on.
I find that platform very helpful, hauls all kinds of junk around (more than UTV) and big turf tires on that tractor means I can go anywhere.

That's like Gravy or hot sauce. In Texas ........ gravy and hot sauce are givens.
I forgot, you get gravy on the home fries, chipped beef or sausage.

Dog poo shoveled; staked Brogen's tether replacing the woodcart anchor; tractor needed some time on the battery charger/starter, but started with no evidence of H2O in the fuel system and ran well; the installed ROP auxiliary lights needed some work = a fuse and the universal connectors needed replaced and are now working. A fair amount of activity today; sore/stiff, and still semi functional. I'll sleep well (hopefully) tonight.

Just reading that made me tired, Jay. Methinks you're over achieving, again...

I changed the Schladge keyless deadbolt lock on the front door to a keyed type. The keyless one locked me out early Saturday morning and inserting the key in the lock (it goes both ways), unlocked the door but then it wouldn't let go of the key. The keyless lock is off to the dump today during the weekly dump run.

That's right up there with the time Don got locked in his own car, and had to call his wife for rescue, L4N. Don't blame you at all for getting rid of that lock, but I'd probably have a serious talk with Schladge about a refund before I dumped it in the trash.:confused2: Or maybe I'd have thrown the thing in the trash just for the satisfaction of doing so, and then maybe fished it back out depending on what Schladge said?:laughing:

You would have consume a lot of beer before ever wanting to eat the extruded mini turds that were inside.

I experienced some truly horrid tasting food many years ago when I spent a month in Great Britain, Eric. So there must be a lot of people that live there that like that sort of thing. And now, is this new evidence that is still the case?:laughing:

Let's just send good wishes for Jay's knee to be fine tomorrow and not swollen again.
That has to be seriously aggravating to keep getting dragged back into immobility.
And you have to move around or otherwise you eat too much and get pudgier.
So you have one shoulder/PT person telling you to keep moving and the other shoulder
yelling in your ear to sit down and elevate that leg. And be waited on hand and foot by
a loving family. And some enormous drooling dogs.

I'm off to go plant more watermelons and say a prayer for good health to all that need it.
I like to pray while I'm planting. Somehow feel more connected. Plus it's quiet.
Just a lot of birds chattering away and I wonder at times what they are saying about me.
I whistle to them a little but they never seem to pay attention to me. I guess I make a bad bird.

Coffee is done brewing. 34° with snow this morning. Heading to 36° with a mix of rain and snow all day. Going to be a conserve energy day. Probably continue with getting new computer working the way I want it too.

I tried Poutine while doing jobs in Montreal area. Little to much for me. Back to good old french fries with malt vinegar on them. I like Webster definition of Poutine. Some assert that poutine is related to the English word pudding, but a more popular etymology is that it's from a Quebecois slang word meaning "mess."
:D

Prayers for all.

Good Morning All.

39 right now...high today in the mid to upper 50's and heavy rain this afternoon into tonight.
We ended up cruising around eastern Vermont in to western New Hampshire...just looking at the scenery. Upon return to Bethel, we had dinner at a local tavern.
Today, of course, finish up the assembly work I put off yesterday...

sounds like a very pretty drive. I bet the streams along the road were full and moving along.
Hope the food was good. You were out smelling the roses, all good. More likely smelling the pine trees.
I think they put out a lot of oxygen and are good for us.

Hope you have stocked up on maple syrup. I love the real stuff, and it's not only hard to get at times but very expensive.
But it's real. Like apple cider only being made with apples.
Now they are on the high sugar list, the only in small quantities list.
When you think of what you are pouring syrup on, I mean the whole thing is sort of empty carbs.
Yet anything that tastes that good...
Moderation.
A small stack of scratch made blueberry pancakes loaded with blueberries and maple syrup on top.
I could sure use a kitchen genie to deliver that...

Good Morning!!!! 56F @ 4:00AM. A mix of clouds and sun during the morning will give way to cloudy skies this afternoon. High 71F. Winds SSE at 10 to 15 mph.

Beautiful day yesterday, with mild temps, blue sky, and gentle breezes. It won't be long before I'm looking back on these as some of the best weather of the year...:confused2:

The Kubota tractor tends to sit for long periods and I was having problems with dead batteries, too, Drew. I put one of these disconnects on it, and it seems to have helped:
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B001N729FS/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Only problem I've had is dirt/corrosion seems to accumulate between the contact surfaces of the disconnect when it's open, and once in a while I'll have to make/break the connection by tightening and loosening it a couple times before achieving good continuity. That would probably be cured with a dose of DeOxIt once in a while...

Glad the trip went smoothly, Bill, and hope the battery installation/use goes as well. I went through two Odyssey batteries on the motorcycles, even using their special hundred dollar charger, but never got more than a couple years out of them. The worst part is there was no warning of their failure. Unlike a conventional battery where it cranks more slowly and gives something of a warning. Now I'm not sure what I'll be buying next time, but it won't be an Odyssey.

Managed to fumble up a mount for a laser pointer to attach it to the drive shaft flanges on the van yesterday, but it took more iteration and time than I'd have liked. I don't know what kind of aluminum it was that I used, but it didn't machine very well, and was hard as nails after it was welded. Even the carbide inserts I use on the lathe didn't like cutting it. I bored one of the holes for the magnets that will hold it in place oversize, and had to epoxy it in instead of using a nice press fit, so I had to wait until today to try it out. In the mean time, I read of people using the level app on their phones to measure angles, and even a technique that used a survey laser, so I may soon be awash in drive shaft alignment data that hopefully helps locate the vibration problem.

The fella that was asking about parking a motorhome here dropped by yesterday afternoon as well, and he seemed to think that the excavation for the building pad wouldn't take him more than a day using the equipment he's currently running. He offered to ask his boss about using it for the job here, which would save tons of money, so we'll see how that goes. Failing that, the local Caterpillar dealer apparently rents equipment, so Monday I'll be checking on rates. He seems like a pretty nice fellow, and was OK with the places that would fit his motorhome, so that may work out as well.

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of their weekend!
