Quote - RNG --"Hope you got some good news, too, Ted. You're too long overdue for some."
--------Well, I posted the outcome of my ortho appointment Thursday afternoon....not the news that I was expecting...not in a good way.... I don't want to repeat it all again.

Good morning to all! Low of 25, snowing right now, supposed to go up to 50. What a change...numerous times over the last few days...nice and warm / sunny, then crazy wind and dust storms, calm but very cool yesterday, now snow today!

This morning on the news, it was reported that Minnesota got "SNIRT"....a combination of dirt and snow. Guess where that came from? They are reporting that the dirt kicked up by the wind here in NM and NW Tx traveled 1300 miles up into Minnesota and mixed with the snow! I believe it.

Today's agenda is to finish getting all the misc. / spare parts for the VW bugs together in one spot. Guy is coming tomorrow to buy my 2 bugs along with everthing that goes with them. Sorry to see them go, but no time and no desire for them anymore.

I hope everyone can get what they want to accomplish done today without any difficulties! Prayers sent for all as usual.

44°F and cloudy this morning, going up to 60° today.

Thinking I'll wait until it warms a bit today before going out to mow.

Dump run and haircut are the first orders of business. I need to get a 9/16th's socket and combination wrench to finish up assembling the aerator assembly I'd started last weekend...then attach a hitch to the Z920 (which is probably what I'll tow the aerator with. As we're looking at almost an inch of rain tomorrow (Sunday), I hope I get these chores completed today.

Got the dump run and haircut...and picked up a 9/16ths combination wrench (found the 9/16th's socket).
However, change in plans...nice sunny day and wifey wants to go for a ride...so, that's the plans. Haven't determined a destination yet...if we decide a specific destination.
So, drive somewhere today, complete the aerator assembly tomorrow. We still have too much snow (25-35 percent of the lawn) to use the implement anyway...

Good Morning Everyone!!!!!!

A rainy/foggy 45ºF; 59ºF presently with the fog lifting and the cloud deck thinning; and if the sun does appear, temps my approach mid to high 60ºF's.

Don- Thank you for providing the CoQ10 information and link. I've never been on statins, but do take the supplement "semi-regularly". I am med compliant with prescribed meds; supplements not so much. I agree that proper diet can negate the need for most of the supplements.

Actually I am learning a lot about CoQ10 from all the posters. Thanks

Ted- Thanks for sharing your world. I never saw/heard the weather term SNIRT before. Good luck with the VWç—´. Reading about your knee makes my knee seem almost normal. I really hope the pain and swelling can be addressed without a knee replacement.

The Orthopedist basically told me to let pain be my guide as to activity. This does not work too well for me; I usually discover after the activity that it was an activity to avoid. As of this AM I am discovering that stairs still create a challenge but I was able to move vehicles around in the driveway and did my first dump run since midJanuary. Brogen scored like a bandit with all the treats he got at the dump. Mr Knee is really complaining at the moment, but no swelling so far. Today will be a day of off-on activity. I really need to address Brogen's driveway deposits. It was a major miracle that I was able to avoid every deposit. Everywhere I look around here is a project waiting.:( Self-regulation will be a challenge this PM if the sun comes out. The tractor has not been operated since January. I should see if it starts, but itç—´ too wet to do much around here yet.

GM is a great help. Thanks everyone.

I hope that everyone is having a decent weekend and plans and projects are successful.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

In that case you shouldn’t need statins either then. :D!

The Dr. was first talking about getting off statins by diet so you don’t need the coQ10.
LDL less than 90 is needed. I can get that number on this diet but if you have high risk heart disease the number should be less than 70 LDL.
In other words if I would have been plant based earlier in life I could have avoided the statin and side effects. At least with the diet it’s the only med I take.

You know I was pulling your chain? :D

My cholesterol has only tested over 200 once in my life, and it was back down three months later, I’m ver fortunate with that, never been skinny in my life. I was very athletic as a younger man, but never looked the part.
Last exam about six months ago, my LDLwas mid 80’s and total was 189.

.

Yes I saw your grin.
Posted for other people who might have thought of that question, which is a legit question if you don't know my medical history.

Edit: another thought - on the plant based diet the Cholesterol number is about always constant. Your cholesterol level does increase when you eat meat/animal products and then decreases back to a fasting normal when you take a blood test. It takes about 4-6 hours for your cholesterol level to go down after a meat meal - of course then you eat another meal and your average cholesterol number stays high. That is why people with good fasting cholesterol numbers can still have plaque build-up, have a heart attack and die.

This was pointed out to me with graphs and everything by the research Cardiologists at Houston Herman Memorial Hospital in the Century Study.

I get portland cement free, when the trucks crash below the house and spill a whole load.... Actually, they clean it up good before they open the road. We average 1 wreck a year like this, some worse than others. They knocked the concrete side of the bridge off before. View attachment 599999

Looks like the bridge narrows up from the road size. Must catch new drivers by surprise?:confused3:

37 this morning and a dusting of snow with light snow still. Nothing laying down.

wow, glad I came in, rain is picking up, or, or, or
Is It SNIRT?
What's coming next SNIRT BOMBS?
We have to get a bomb in there...Bomb SNIRTS?
Dangerous world out there...;)
Not sure my umbrella is SNIRT rated.

I would have thought with so much direct till that all this farm dirt would be a decreasing thing.
Sure don't want your soil to blow away.

Went out to garden and used leaf blower to tidy up in there. Brings a smile to see it almost all filled up.
Took PTouch labeler with me, made a few missing tags.
74 degrees and rain is coming in.

Well, back from the ortho doc....knee still not cooperating. X-ray shows further narrowing of the space. The doc is writing it as "sudden substantial degradation ". Supposedly an infrequent, but possible complication of having 2 surgeries within 6 months. He injected more cortisone today, and is requesting 'prior authorization' from the insurance to do 3 weekly injections of another medication (which I now forget). He did tell me to "do whatever you can within your tolerance"....when I 'm doing stuff, I can tolerate it well....it's afterward that sneaks up and bites me! If this next treatment doesn't work...replacement time...

Sorry to hear this news, Ted. I must'a missed that post earlier. Hopefully the injections aren't painful, but does the doc think they'll fix the problem? I keep wondering if one of those sports doctors that treat lots of cases like yours might be able to provide additional insights. Albuquerque isn't exactly major league when it comes to anything except maybe Route 66 trinkets.

64°F and 3.18 inches rain. Forecast to be like yesterday so pretty much an indoor day.

Don , I remember my 1st wood shop project. a simple book stand made from a single piece of hardwood. Had to submit a detailed perspective drawing based on a length of rough cut wood and then make it completely with hand tools. Hand planing, sawing, drilling, sanding , no power tools allowed. I remember that experience every time I use my thickness planer especially.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Well, the ortho doc is a sports medicine specialist, he trained in Austria and Switzerland, specifically specializing in knees and shoulders. The practice is the medical providers for the UNM bike team and the Albq. Bike team. He was able to fix my shoulder when I had 3 tears in my rotator cuff. I fully trust him (one of very few medical providers that I trust).
I think just because of the combinations of the injuries, plus all the wear and tear over the years....well, it was probably a matter of time... It just got moved along faster. Thanks for the tips.

Do you have an iPhone and can't figure out how to delete thousands of email messages in the Mail app? The count on my phone was about to top 10,000, and I wanted that storage back, so this morning I went looking for an answer. Here's what worked for me!

FWIW, I still use the old POP email protocol, and keep my main email archive on one of my laptops. Following the above tip deleted the messages only from the iPhone, and nowhere else. If you're using some other protocol, iMAP comes to mind, this tip may result in email messages being deleted from the server, and hence from other computers as well. So proceed with caution.

that sounds familiar David. Did you have to get your pencil marks and cut lines checked?
My shop teacher would always have a pencil out to give an OK check mark if the work could proceed.
Just for beginners, after that you got more leeway. Probably saved a lot of wood.
Foot stools, lot of them have sure been made. I even have a heavy chunk of brass I built in to a paperweight with my initials on it, still sitting heavily on the shelf. Those were good memories as we proudly took our creations home.

All our good vibes are not working on Ted. Disappointed he continues to suffer.
Like RNG's mechanic, maybe it's time for Plan C.
Jay, hoping you improve every day.

learned about CoQ10 some more here, took it years ago, stopped, no idea why.
First there was the shark cartilage for my back many years ago, this supplement business is
big business, but I have too many possible interactions with prescription meds already I am always
nervous about adding something new to the mix. I already take turmeric curcumin for anti inflammation.
The choices start getting too large to consider.

Pretty sure taking any additive pills isn't going to help a huge amount if your diet is mostly fast food.

Drew, right you are, everything checked before haste made waste. Shop class was only a single period, so not a lot of time to get much done. Interestingly, many of the lessons from that class are quite actively practiced today. Not unusual for me to spend more time drawing out a project to get it right than the actual work.

I’m going to ask that my cholesterol be checked next bloodwork, which is non fasting for A1c and some other stuff. Normally on does mine every year or sometimes two years since it never varies much. I’d like to see the difference an hour or so after breakfast.

Make sure you eat a MAN's breakfast 3 eggs, sausage and toast with lots of butter !!!!!:D On my first cholesterol test 30 years ago I had eaten a big mac for lunch before my afternoon Dr. visit and mine was 450.

Drew your salad post was exclusive of salt but inclusive of oil. I don't use oil because I don't need it to add flavor or extra dense calories and because of these reasons:
