Good morning!!!!

It looks like 27° for the low this morning. Yesterday was mostly cloudy and in the mid 30's. Today is going to be a mix of sun and clouds in the mid 30's with a 20-30 mph wind.

I'm still working on organizing things in garage, hope I can find things when I get done.

Hope everyone has a good hump day.
CWB.

Good Morning Everyone!!!

A brisk 14ºF/263.2ºK presently 25ºF/269.3ºK. I expect to see temperatures rise to ~36ºF/275.4ºK It looks like I will be removing and adding some work lights to the tractor this PM.

"…¸hat polar vortex is what I was saying might get us after the January thaw, and now it looks more like it will. Not looking forward to that.?" Randy

The models seem to reflect a splitting of the polar vortex now over Siberia with one parcel heading towards Europe and the other parcel heading towards NorthAmerica the first week of January as a result of the modeled 12/24-26 storm and around midJanuary the cold airmass over Europe will retreat to Siberia and then combine with the cold airmass over us. A lot depends on the modeled Jan1-3 storm.

Bruce- With the split jet streams and essentially zonal flow I think your temperatures will remain essentially unchanged.

"... Polar Vortex will split sending us cold weather but not until mid January or so. ?. The pacific jet is strong so it will be who wins out in the end.?" Buppies I agree.

Drew- I use worm poo. It is a great fertilizer. Worm and mushroom farms have been a topic of discussion here? Itç—´ still a topic of discussion on occasion.

"... Now if they could develop a cure for ALS and other illnesses that have no cure at this time.?"- RonJ I agree. I have lost a few family members to a rare genetic neurodegenerative disease.

Thomas- Good luck with the feline transport to the vets. I hope there are no surprises.

Don- That is a nice looking composter. This time of year I broadcast the vegetable matter directly on the garden. The resident wildlife get a decent buffet. ;) It is ugly but tills well come Spring (~Memorial Day).

I hope that everyone is having a manageable day.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers.

Good morning to all! Low of 23, going up to 52. Someone turned on the wind machine again, already breezy this morning at sunrise. Gusts are expected between 50-60 mph. I hate the wind!

Don, nice looking composter. We usually just put the scraps in a pile and I cover them with a little fine shredded mulch. By spring it's some nice stuff. I've been tempted to buy one of those 'turning' types, but probably no better.

The cough and nasal congestion seems to have reached it's peak last night, feel better today.

Tomorrow is first day of PT....they are going to be told to take it easy this time around... The knee doesn't have any more chances to overdo it.

PJ, now is the time to customize your guitar. Hope to see pics as the work progresses. Really cool.

Jay, what's your forecast for the great high desert mountains here in the SW? Seemed like we were going to get some good precip this winter, but now the switch was turned to off. Thoughts?

Drew, I remember being able to go out and collect a whole bucket of earthworms from the sidewalks just after it rained when we were living in Bucks Co. There were hundreds everywhere. Then we would go fishing. Out here, they are found under outdoor potted plants, mulched areas, and places that are moist. They are attracted to the moisture...total opposite of back East. You'll never find them in the regular soil.

Everyone have a great day! Prayers and thoughts sent.

54° this morning going to 64° this afternoon. Looks like it's going to be another overcast day.

Made an attempt to gather trimmed tree limbs, in front pasture yesterday with small. (55HP) tractor / grapple. Made it to within about 50 yards of burn pile and the tractor started sinking in. Put it in 4WD and made it to the burn pile but ...... left about 40 yards of deep ruts in the process that I'll have to fix someday.

We've been composting, at the ranch for about 10 years with a rotating 50 gallon drum type composter. It's like this one.

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Compost-Wizard-Jr-Black/17431222

We add vegetable scraps, egg shells, coffee grounds, etc. I occasionally dump our paper shredder contents in also. We don't bag grass, as a rule, but occasionally I'll put bagger on mower and gather a bit of grass if I need more "green" stuff in it. It fills up about twice a year.

We've got sandy soil so, I've never seen any native earth worms here. I'll have to see if earthworms are available locally to add to compost drum.

Hoping everyone has a great day!

Prayers to all.

Good Afternoon Everyone!!!

Ted- Good luck with the PT. This has been a long haul. I hope that this round of PT will be the last you ever need. Your weather looks dry for the next 10 days; probably longer. This split jet stream and the lack of early phasing or any at all did not help your area as it relates to precipitaton. And the NW CONUS has been nailed this year with storm events that track too far north to be of any benefit to the SW. In “theory” during a strong El Nino Winter the SW CONUS should see a lot of precipitation. El Nino was strong this Spring/Summer; now it is weakening which would support the lack of precipitation in the SW CONUS.

There is now a lot of internet discussion by ProMets and weather brainiacs (here too:cool:) about the predicted NorthAmerican midJanuary polar vortex which I think needs phased jet streams. There’s a lot of pieces in this puzzle and the pieces need to interact as modeled. I am in awe of some of these brainiacs who can cite chapter and verse past weather event analogs to current weather patterns.

The LED work lights for the tractor installed easily. The biggest challenge was walking on the ice and contorting my body to gain access to the lights’ locations. I am :embarrassed: to admit this, but it was a preassembled light kit. I can build functional drones and I go and purchase a preassembled light kit:embarrassed: Sad, but true. :(

My compost pile this year started with 6 'loads' of grass clippings. I put vegetable leaves and whatever organic on top of it all winter long with at least 2 buckets of snow every time I plow. In the spring I will get me a couple of dozen earth worms and let it go all summer. It will get turned over in spring, but nothing will happen with it until the fall.

electrician just left, garden shed lack of power traced to underground line, natch...he'll come back with fault detector. Propane heater in there works fine now, after a major service by gas company, and I spent an hour today stuffing R15 fiberglass batts into areas I could see daylight. Carpenters will return after New Years to insulate ceiling. Yard helper came, we did a bunch together, been on feet too long.

Flood watch now posted for yet another 2-4 inch storm coming tomorrow night. Little concerned about the wind tomorrow night, will be a test for the tiny greenhouse.
Cloudy and dark out, xmas lights coming on

Cleaning ladies coming tomorrow morning, crew of six, six little bags of nuts and chocolates and fruit, plus a little cash, for each. Boss gets slightly more cash but all those little bags full of goodies mount up.
Do the same thing for mail lady. My mail sure does get delivered nicely...

Other than siblings who I send citrus to, have no one to buy presents for so might as well take care
of the "help". Particularly Javier who just left, after working all day at the pig farm, he came here and raked up all my leaf piles. He is always friendly and dependable. Santa Claus gave him a nice big bag too.
He was like a little kid with it, huge smile on his face.
Smiles and happy endings, I'll take them when I can...

May all wishes at Christmas come true.

Cleaning ladies today for me, like Drew we slipped a few $$$ extra in the envelope. I have nice Brazilian ladies. They do a great job and are very dependable.

Went to the Winterfest of Lights tonight in Ocean City, 58 acres of lights, rode the tram train, not too cold and very nice. We got dinner while there.
Looks like another windy, stormy heavy rain system starting tomorrow.
