27 around 1, up to 33. Mild, windy and heavy rain late day. Gives me time to get the garbage together. Ellen is on vacation so she is going up to see her moms PT session this morning. I’m afraid the Alzhiemers has just about claimed her though.
My mom is nearly 96 and I think her time is short as well.

Finished most Christmas stuff yesterday.

Took car club donations to HALO, a local group that has done amazing things for homeless families, and to Operation We Care veterans organization. They also do great work. We donated near $2000 to them this show season.

Have a great day folks, I hope the Lord looks out for us all.

BTW, yesterday a huge flock of female Robins came in from the south. I’ve seen them come back on New Years Day, but never this early. Last time on New Years Day was 89-90 when we had a very cold and snowy December but very mild winter.

good morning all. Warmer day as a great deal of rain is working its way North along the coast. 49 going up to 67 today. Sending it North to warm up Toppop.
Big issue for me is wind, wondering what that little greenhouse can take. Really should go put a big tarp over whole thing this morning
before the rain starts up again. But probably won't.

David, your recycling system is the best in the world. Plus the most fun.

Rain will keep me inside today, which is good, did too much yesterday but at least all the leaves got cleaned up, temporarily...

Sister in Muir Beach nagging at me to get on a train and head West. Not this year, driving to Florida second week in Jan to visit friends in Delray Beach. Bit of a challenge on this trip, second set of friends just moved/retired to Ft Meyers, other side of State, about 2 1/2 hours away. If they find out I drove all the way down there and didn't visit them also, well.... Never been on beach at Sanibel, always wanted to, maybe I'll get there.

38 and cloudy before the rain hits...should see 49.

Ron, I've experienced the same frustration as you...then ordered online, too.

Randy, nice charitable generosity.

Pretty clear you are doing great work also Randy, nice going.

20F clear and calm low 40's for high. :)

Plans for today... pickup load grit for the driveway just in case, finish putting the basement shop back together than some slow motion.
Time to feed the critters and get at it.
Stay safe during this nasty storm all....we'll be getting your left overs starting tomorrow.

Enjoy the day all.

Not too cold and not too windy. With long gaps between showers it is not a bad day at all to be outside.

Bird, of all the jobs people do at Christmas, I had never before considered that people like your son-in-law may have to work too. Lets hope he has no customers this year.

Wng, I agree, those fans are absolutely fascinating. Now if only we had a liquid nitrogen producing machine like Kyle, we could have more hours of simple fun with a train set like this for Christmas QI Experiments | A Spot Of Quantum Levitation - YouTube

I'm not sure how many types of earth worm there are, I wonder if you have similar names for the common ones ? Ignoring the few pale anaemic looking ones, I have 3 favourites -
Big fat "lobworms" that are the main aerators of rich soil and what the early bird on the lawn enjoys a good tug of war with.

"Brandlings" with yellow tiger stipes, they don't smell too good but they do a great job in compost heaps.

Best of all the 3 inch red worms (dark red) that can be found under anything damp. Robins can never get enough of them and fish love them too. Occasionally a red worm will get lost on a rainy day, I must be a little crazy as I will often pick them up and put them somewhere safe.

Eric, your three inch red worms sound like the number one compost worm here,
called Red Wigglers. Also advertised as tasty snacks for fish.
Worm has a tough life, everyone wants to eat them or stick sharp things in them, or cut them in half
with shovels.

Red wigglers do well in controlled warm conditions, can't take winter. Larger "traditional" earthworms can be bought that last in outdoor gardens. I've never seen a striped "Brandling" type.

It's 16° for the low this morning, yesterday was in the low 30's and cloudy with a cold wind. Today is going to be around 40° mostly sunny with the wind 5-10 mph.

Making the weekly trip to town this morning. Probably won't feel like doing much when we get back this afternoon.

Hope everyone has a nice day.
CWB.

46°F and cloudy this morning with some light fog, going up to 48° early today, then dropping though the afternoon. Expecting rain most of the day.

We usually give gift cards to our mailman, garbage pickup, and pest control tech every year at Xmas. Our mailman got in the habit of bringing bigger stuff to the door when The Wife's Grandmother was still there. He still does that for us.

Claye, this looks like something you could do, really have to think about where you go before you start, pic from this site.
Looks like fun to do.

51° this morning and forecast for 63°. Clear and not a cloud in the sky this morning although at 2 a.m. we were totally fogged in. Weather Channel says it's supposed to be windy today but, dead calm now.

More tree trimming in the plan for today. After yesterday's rut creating fiasco ..... tractors will remain parked. I guess I'm glad I did that out in the pasture and not in our 9 acres of "yard" around the house.

Hoping for a great day for everyone.

Prayers to all.

Drew ... Nice picture, wish I had that kind of talent. We only have about about a foot of snow on the ground and a lot of sagebrush taller then that. When I was growing up I had a hard time writing my own name in the snow.

Good morning! 50 ˚F, windy and sunny.

With all the travel this week we dropped the GPS, it cracked and no longer works so it looks like another must buy "Family" christmas gift will be under the tree. The iPhone does not have all the neat features that our Garmin nuvi 3450 had so we will be looking for another Garmin (plus sometime we would like a second opinion on which way is faster plus free lifetime map updates - they are adding hundreds of streets around here annually). Anyone bought a Garmin GPS lately and can recommend a model? neither of our vehicles have NAV, and even when the Prius had it we preferred the Garmin. The older NAVs for some vehicles can be confusing and don't allow for the navigator (wife) to do inputs while driving.

Do the newer NAVs on vehicles allow for passenger input while the vehicle is in motion or has the auto industry taken that privilege away because of driver safety like Toyota did on the Prius?

Worms, during the cold rain a few weeks ago about 1000 small earthworms crawled on the stone patio to get out of the cold water and died and dried. I got the blower out to blow them off but they did not budge. I got the broom out to scrub them off and they did not move. Next - power washer gets some use.

Interesting pic Drew. That reminds me of my Cousin who spelled the name of his client Mr. Luecke with his bulldozer - but you have to get up high to see it. I bet Buckeye can find it in just a few minutes. (Hint: it's in Bastrop county TX.)
