it is a testimonial to Dupont that the refrigerated pie crusts I used to make this apple pie
still functioned after being outside the best use date by, ahem, ahem, a year and a half.
This is what happens when you live along and there are no fridge police...;)

Pie crusts were still soft and pliable, if a bit sticky, I just figured I'd cook it a little extra so that if there were
any aliens in there, well they'd be well baked. And so I did.
But first I liberally sprinkled cinnamon on top, sort of like dousing the madame with perfume...

Even if I have to scrape off the top, I know the insides will be just fine. Used half the normal sugar, butter, flour, nutmeg, vanilla and cinnamon; no way that will taste bad. But I exercised caution and decided to let it cool. Gotten a few nice tongue burns not following
that advice before. Twice burned and learned.

Looks good Drew!

My dad didn’t talk about the war much, and when he did it was usually stories of things they did not in combat. He told me a few things that were age appropriate, but remember he died when I was 12.

Happy veterans day Dad, and all the other veterans. My grandmother insisted on calling it Armistice Day. Dad talked about it a little this morning. Boarded a ship In NY for Scotland on Dec 23, 1943 at 10 pm. He quoted all the dates. Said he saw the statue of liberty on the way out and never thought he'd see it again, but he did. He watched the Dday invasion sail out of Cardiff, and he arrived at Omaha beach a few days later.

Glad I went to see him this weekend.Screenshot_2018-11-11-12-34-38.jpeg

My dad never said much about the war. Oldest brother will tell a lot of stories. Was a crew chief on a B52. Spent 16 years in the Air Force. My younger brother never talks about his service. In the Navy. My son talks about his time in the Army. Spent 13 years in it. Decided to not reenlist after his trip to ****** with a Patriot Company.
Buckeye, your dad looks good.

IMHO the pie turned out fine, if not quite cooked enough since some apples in the center were a little firm/crunchy.
But otherwise, I had a really big piece and enjoyed every bit.

Yes, I would like to put the pie in a device that probably will look like the original Amana Radarange, and push a button and have
it appear right in front of you. Plenty for all...
