I wonder if “Serving Items” is the disqualifier as many people would toss them loaded with food? I know we toss styrofoam packaging in with rest of plastics for recycle.

1 3/4" of rain today. Started about 3 a.m. Our pastures are now saturated and levels of both tanks close to full. Tractors parked and will probably stay parked for a couple of days.

Looks like more coming tonight and tomorrow too.

63° here and that will probably be our high for today.

Happy belated Birthday Buckeye!

Prayers to all.

I agree. Sanitation problem. And while all those driveway sealer plastic buckets I used say recycle on the bottom, as I expected, the transfer station said absolutely not unless the plastic was clean. And it sure wasn't.
Paper should recycle, most plastics should, but something makes me wonder about styrofoam. What about packing beads?
Ought to be a law it all has to be recyclable, otherwise we will all live on a giant landfill.

came in fully wrapped in foam/styrene. Is that stuff recyclable?

I just went to the Recycle meeting last week. 80% of our neighborhood does recycle the highest % in Georgetown. They had a table of things recyclable and things for trash. Your styrofoam in our neighborhood would be for the trash, however they did say in some cities they do recycle styrofoam to make packaging peanuts. So the answer is - depends on your local recycling center.

That's about all I know for sure. We have a different garbage collection company now than when we first started this recycling business. What I quoted is from the current company. I do know the first company said a pizza box with a little left over pizza in it could ruin a whole truckload of recycling material. And yes, those plastic buckets can be recycled, but ONLY if they are clean, and that's not too likely. Everything is supposed to be clean and dry.
