Good morning!!!!

I once had to listen to a slovenly software developer complain how he got no respect, and didn't make as much money as his cohorts. I pointed out that one's personal appearance was a reflection of their values and behavior, and people's natural assumption is that his work was subpar in keeping with the rest of his nature. Needless to say, my remarks were not well received, even if they were accurate.:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Yup, had to go into town today to deal with auto repairs - before we left I had been spraying Great Stuff Big Gap foam ($2.99/can at Ace) in cracks that needed them. I was wearing workclothes, fairly clean but not spiffy. Wife asked if I was going to change. Told her heck no, I don't dress up to deal with workers that get dirty when they do honest labor.

I remember giving my youngest son the same talk when he was in his late teens. While reminding him that person doing the hiring was probably someone like me. In couple of weeks he will be 45 and is that guy that does the hiring. Actually decides if a temp employee gets to stay on the job. And appearance does matter.

Larro, good to hear from you, it looked like this all went over your head and apparently it did.
Sorry about the pine trees, what a mess. One last bumper crop but what a mess to clean up. Hope you have a grapple.
Glad your house is ok. I know you can't catch up on this but we've been worrying about you.
Larro takes one last walkabout to the river camp in the hurricane.... . . . . . .
I got down there the morning after the storm. {saw my good rake and really wished I had carried it out with me} Everyday I've meant to get back down there, but the days are too short. I'm assuming the road has been cleared by now, so I can take the Kabota {mule like thing} between the rows of young pines and get pretty close to the camp that way. That old tent weighed a ton dry, so I don't want to carry it wet any further than I have to.

The eye went over my 76 year old cousin's house, about 3-4 miles to the west of me. His old frame house lifted off the blocks and set back down at an angle. The fridge on the front porch fell across the door so he had to crawl out the window. He was on the phone with cousins in Tampa, and they were tracking it on their aviation radar app. They told him to drive to my house while it was calm. But we never had any calm, and he was barely in the eye. He got about three miles and was on the dirt road when the wind came back and blew him into the ditch, where he spent the 2nd half of the storm. He walked to the Tampa cousin's house, {which had a tree on it} and slept there. He walked on down my house the next morning. Only 3-4 miles, but the roads were full of trees. It was about lunch when he made it.

Good evening all. 54F for the start, partly cloudy, calm wind. Wind was non-factor most of the day, sky clouded up more but not complete overcast, and high temp hit 70F. Took boat in for a recall, the hydraulic steering might have improperly torqued fittings. They found one loose fitting and then we left to go to book store and Red Lobster. Took the boat out after we got home for an hour, tried to get a pic of house from lake but won't happen with sun behind my house.
Ron, how long before you get use of your arm back?
Randy nice pics, now hope you survive since your friend is doing better:D
Drew, nice wax job on the Massy
Larro, glad you and family are alright, man you have one heck of a clean-up
No PJs in public for me, rarely wear sweats around house, let alone in public :ashamed::confused2:
Got the lecture to dress the part when going to Chicago Machine tool Show, if you wanted the salesman to give you the time of day, you had to look like you could buy one. :D
prayers for all.

Too wet to mow, BUT, I did get a couple hours bushhogging, second pass in my rough area I’m reclaiming out by road and driveway.

Talk about burying the lead. I went for a walk tonight after we ate and I got the generator going for Margie's wifi pleasure. My usual loop is going the back way to the next 40 over, walk the three trail roads there back to the road, cross over to the pipeline then walk down it till I'm even with the old house. Cross the road again going down to the pond. I walk the fence line to the back of the pond 40, then make a loop of the pond then walk the three trail back to the road. Of course all of those but the pipeline are too hard to walk now, so I did mostly road walking tonight. While I was on my way back home, I saw the lights of a power truck at Cousin Johnny's trailer. They were gone by the time I got there, but I looked at the meter and it had power. I couldn't stop smiling when I topped the hill and saw a well lit house.

Sister has already called and ask if she can come shower.

I heard on the radio out here today that it would be the first week in November before all the power was restored in Michael's path, Larro. Glad they put you on the fast track!

Good morning all. It is relatively quiet here this morning, the concrete pecker has fallen silent and a stiff breeze is carrying away most of the other sounds of the wreckers working on the old dairy site.

Larro, it's good to hear you and family are ok, though sad to see those pictures of what natures wrecking crew can do so quickly.

Good morning all, 39 going to 55 and sunny. Got the truck inspected, mowed and ran the weed eater, finished putting some pool stuff away and did some honey do's. Need to run a few errands today and piddle some.

Larro, WOW glad you are ok, hard to see all of that damage, used to have some pines as well. Prayers sent.

Drew, make sure to kiss it goodbye so it will know you are not mad at it. :) Hope you get exactly what you need.

Ron, I love my Drill Dr, works on all of my bits except one. I assume it was replaced and the twist if different. Just need to figure out what notch to put the holder in for the set up. Hope you enjoy yours.

RNG, :cool2: nothing like bugs in your teeth.

Have a great day, prayers sent. Ed

44 getting up to 59 and sunny.

Larro, prayers for you and your neighbors. Looks devastating.

Randy, sounds like you're having a good time. Glad Ellen is feeling well.

My wife had the yogettes (what I call her yoga ladies group) over to house yesterday morning, so I took Coco to the mountains. Glad I did...wonderful weather...some kind of inversion at play, though...it was 37 degrees down at the bottom in Sperryville, but 47 up on the Skyline drive. Usually the opposite. Got there at sunrise, not a single car on the entire 12 mile section I drove, just 2 bears.

Hiked a 6.1 mile roundtrip section of the A/T and side trail down to Overall Falls...the tallest in SNP. Didn't pass a soul until the trip back up. Talked to a man about my age from Indiana...he had just sold his house and was traveling around the country looking for a place to live. Passed a family backpacking down to the bottom for the night...man and wife loaded down, and their two 5 and 6 year olds carrying their daypacks and big smiles. Great to see a family do that together. Lots of color in the leaves, but mostly different shades of green. Every so often would see a brilliant red or orange tree...leaves are late this year. Came home and roasted coffee.

Haircut and gym today. Maybe mowing.

32 high of 37F. Wind N 15 gusting 25 mph. 40% chance of flurries.

I got to go to town today and get my wheel nuts retorqued. Here it is mandatory after you take the wheels off that the nuts get retorqued after about 60 miles.

It is time to go around and see who wants me to clear their snow this winter. Besides myself I have one other guy. I told him the other day that IF the snow got too heavy for his little 4x4 Polaris, I would come over and clean him out.

We have been recycling here for about 25 years. Paper, plastic, styrofoam, metal and tires. Wood usually goes into the burn pile, but if I get to the pile before the guy that looks after the dump lights it, I salvage the wood if I have a use for it. People with cottages throw out useful stuff in the spring and that goes into the mall*. We scavenge through that too.

*mall = a building on the dump site where the dump office is located along with a large room with tables for miscellaneous items can rest until someone grabs them.

PJs? I haven't worn them since I was 12. I doubt my 60 year old pjs would fit me now. Sweat pants are in the same category as pjs.

WOW! Michael was particularly nasty to you Larro. As long as the house and you people are safe all the other damage is just 'stuff' and replaceable.

RNG, it is nice to read the old iron running again.

Have a good day all

42 going up to 63 today, nice sunny day, and rain has moved back to Friday.
going to work on equipment today, winterizing, etc.
Someone in SC is happy this morning, hard to imagine winning 1.5 billion dollars.
Meanwhile the stock market has been brutal, losing money steadily.

read this morning that only 8 percent of all plastic ever made has been recycled.
Can you imagine how much that leaves in the landfills and the oceans?
