Just took it easy today. got a little over .25 in of rain. 26.99 in this year not sure of normal.

Ron, I am not sure I would believe them no matter what they said. I would not have as much of a problem if they were not saying next week or two every week. They ought to know what is on the ship and when it is coming even if they don't know delivery dates to the ship. I just want my money back.

Have a good night. Ed

Claye- Hummingbirds are a great source of entertainment and at a "relatively cheap" cost. You may see more than the Ruby Throated hummers? You guys/gals in western CONUS areas may see more species. Most of our annual sugar usage is hummingbird food. I see an increase in our use of sugar in the near future. I stopped flying my small RC aircraft near feeding stations due to possible less than desirable bird-drone interactions a long time ago.

The USPS never delivered here and never will due to our hill. FEDEX, UPS, and DHL never had a real problem with home delivery. We could have a USPS mailbox in a mailbox cluster a 1/4 mile down the road that gets taken out by drunk drivers periodically, usually on weekends or Seasonally by disgruntled highway department snowplow operators. We are a PO box by necessity.

I sealed the leak in the roof over the cellar successfully and now have discovered a small weeping crack in the cellar foundation during the cellar cleanup operation. Considering the cellar addition, the area, and the size of the "leak" I feel fortunate.

Don- After my Dad spent +1 days on his bathroom floor in his condo before his discovery he finally decided to use: LIFE ALERT official website - I've fallen and I can't get up!(R)

A Hard/Landline works. I dealt with them as needed. They proved their value.

Kyle wanted to see a some photos of the BMW build, so here's what's happened up 'till now:

Things were pretty grim at the start, especially with the engine:

Half way through the first acid bath with Nice'n'Easy aluminum door and window cleaner:
engineCasesHalfCleaned.jpg

Three days of scrubbing with wire brushes and ScotchBrite pads later:

The flywheel went in yesterday; today it was time for the clutch:

I also sorted through the boxes of engine and electrical parts to figure out what was still needed. Pretty short list so far; just hope it stays that way...

The neighborhoods to both the north and south have those flimsy mailbox clusters. The local miscreants have figgered out how to pry open the main door that exposes the contents of all the mailboxes at once so they can pilfer the good stuff at their leisure. Hardly a week goes by that one isn't hit somewhere around here. But today they caught three guys in the act. Hopefully that puts an end to it for a while.

I'm thinking of "upgrading" my mailbox to something made from quarter inch steel plate resting on a 12"x12" steel tube. It'll have baffles in the bottom of the box so that the mail drops down into the tube, and a door at the bottom with one of those fancy tamper proof locks. I've already installed a 2'x2'x4' steel Knack box that has a hasp with an integrated padlock. So far that's been enough that I haven't lost any parcels. But you'd be amazed at the inventiveness of the delivery personnel in how they can either not get the parcel in the box, or fail to lock it once the stuff is in there. In all fairness, if they could do anything else I supposed they'd be doing it, so I guess it's not their fault that they've just Petered out...

I'm definitely not in the cute camp, but the mail folks have always been pretty good here. I am surprised at the weekend deliveries, especially the Amazon sunday delivery. First time it happened, I thought I had lost a day somehow!

I've been using four of these: Amazon.com : First Nature 39 32-ounce Hummingbird Flower Feeder : Wild Bird Feeders : Garden & Outdoor

They hold 32 ounces each, but the thirsty little buggers around here still empty them in two days. The oldest ones are faded a bit, but after two years nothing has broken on them. They're very easy to keep clean, too.

RNG, we’ve looked at these feeders too. Don’t know if there are any hummingbirds around here but, worth a try.

What is your food recipe? Water, sugar? How much? Anything else?

Good evening all. 80F this morning, high thin clouds, calm wind. Moderate wind today, mostly clear sky, high temp 114F. Chapel this morning, did little light weeding on flower garden, Choir sang at a memorial service this afternoon. That is it for today. Forecast is for temps to be cooler for a while, may even drop into upper 90'sF.
Prayers for all.

I read in a book about hummingbirds that the correct mixture is one cup white sugar to one quart of water. I keep eight half gallon milk jugs to make up a batch, one jug at a time just using room temperature tap water. I pour the sugar into all the jugs first when my hands are dry, then fill each of them with water leaving space at the top for a bubble. Once they're capped, they get shaken for a few seconds and I go onto the next one. A bottle takes three shakes to get all the sugar dissolved. The solution will keep quite a while in the fridge, but this time of year a batch will only last about a week. That same book said that the red dye and other additives in commercial nectar mixes are bad for the birds, and that plain old white sugar and water is as close as you can get to the natural nectar the birds like. I keep an eye on the jugs as they are emptied, as mold will sometimes form inside them. A cap full of bleach in a full bottle of water will clean out the mold overnight. The feeding part is pretty easy, but I haven't figured out how to keep the birds from trying to kill each other yet. I thought having feeders at each corner of the house would keep things civil, but they seem to want to all gang up on one feeder and fight for it...

Thank you Sir. I’d heard the same about the red coloring.

I’m going to order one of your suggested feeders and see what happens.

I appreciate your advice.

69 right now and raining...not hard, just a nice steady soaking which we needed badly. High in the mid-70's. 10 day forecast is calling for rain most of the week.

Heading to Indianapolis tomorrow...not sure if I'll be posting much over the next few days...

I have been here in NM since '92. The first few years were green, had above average rain and snowfall. It has been progressively getting drier and drier. We have decided it is time it is time to seek a "less harsh environment". It seems that many other areas are to the opposite extreme....too much rain, too quickly (flooding), massive forest fires, tornadoes (in multiples), or blizzards /massive snows. Is there any weather stable areas? Somebody really p****d off Mother Nature....

We live in a place where the weather often changes, but the lows and highs are not so extreme. We're thinking this is a long hot summer - a whole month with highs of a whopping 27C/80F :)

12" of snow is a rarity here (never heard of people owning snowblowers until I came on TBN) and I've never seen a tornado, or more than 2" of rain in a day. Would that be ok for you ? Could be quite a journey for you to get to work though. :D

I was about to say what a lovely day it is. That was until ...

Maybe we resolve with a Thomas vs. Randy Beauty Contest?

I知 ready!

Thomas and Randy wearing high heals
What a thought to start the week. Anyone else now not feel like breakfast this morning ?

Wngsprd, well done at getting your bike back into use. Coco must be thrilled at the prospect of some high speed adventures together.

Actually since it was the first time she saw me move that fast, she took several steps backwards toward my wife. I don't think the bike is very safe...one gear working and only the front brakes. I'll spend more time on it, though.

Thought I could get started outside early this morning, but the radar shows the rain gets the worm.

73 going to 83 and rain imminent. Lucked by with only .02 yesterday, so got some drying, but several inches predicted this week.

RNG - I like you method for making hummingbird "juice." We use that same 1:4 ratio of sugar to water, and no dye. But we heat our water (1 gallon at a time) to boil before stirring in the sugar. We use that same feeder, but instead of yellow "flowers" with holes, ours have only slits...we found that this keeps the yellow jackets from crawling inside, which they love to do...and they can get into very small holes.
