Good morning. More sun for us and not a single cloud to be seen again. June is certainly trying hard to get it's place in the all time weather records.

Randy, is that the first time your grandson has driven a tractor ? He is going to remember that for the rest of his life.

Great story again Bird

We use to drive from South Mills, NC over to Norfolk, VA to the bakery and buy day old stuff by the pickup load, some went to the hogs and a lot of Twinkies and such went to we three boys.

When I was about 8 or 10 years old, our neighbor worked at that bakery in Norfolk and he would occasionally bring home some of those twinkies or cup cakes or "snowballs" (marshmallow cup cakes) in his car trunk. We'd be out playing baseball and he'd call us over...always exciting when he'd open his trunk and surprise us.

68 going to 92. Looks like the rain has finally taken a vacation here, too, Eric.

Can't get much better than butter beans or succotash...grew up on them...although our succotash has diced stewed tomatoes in it, too.

Took my mom to the hospital to get her pacemaker replaced Tuesday...operation went well, and she went home the same day. My wife traveled down, too, and spent a couple of nights taking care of her. I came home and spent 2 10 hour days hand digging another French drain and backfilling with pipe and gravel. Need to pick up another ton of gravel at the quarry today in order to finish. I have one more to dig, but will rent a ditch witch based on expected rocks and roots.

Wow, already Friday, and July is almost here.

good morning all. 76 going to 92 with afternoon thunderstorms. Summer time.

full day planned, rototilling, planting, weedeating, going to get out before 6am and try to beat the heat.

at the local food pantry, Walmart and Food Lion bring all their outdated food, and the volume of sweets, cupcakes, twinkies, all kinds of grossly unhealthy food (the who eats that crap stuff....) that come in by the van load is extraordinary. Huge amounts of outdated sugary stuff and I asked the food pantry, which has a strong healthy food initiative going, why they distribute this clearly unhealthy food.

The answer was telling. Among the poor, getting fancy dessert stuff to treat their kids is just too much of a draw. I was told the clientele would howl if the sweets were cut off. The addiction of our country to sweets....
So after Drew's okra they get a package of Twinkies. Ok.

Good morning all, 62 going to 87 and sunny today. Still need to weed eat, hope to get to it today. Like don I need to build a workbench in the garage, Have everything to build it just need to get to it.

Dad used to say,"That is what is wrong with the world today, people don't eat enough bread and they can't work long." and "Light bread is why they had to go to the 8 hr work day." We also ate biscuits and cornbread. Often with flour and meal we had ground ourselves. Later we got day old bread, never fed the hogs on day old bread, we ate it, and yes the treats were nice. We had a neighbor that her brother worked in a bakery and when the sliced the top of a cake off to level it they threw it in a 5 gal bucket. She would bring us a bucket of cake tops and when we wanted a treat we would reach in and grab a hand full. We though it was wonderful.

Randy, My nephew is about 40 and he still talks about my dad "Papa" taking him for a ride on the tractor.

Have a great day, prayers sent for all in need. Ed

Drinking first cup of coffee. 63° with some clear skies this morning. Heading to 91° with sunny skies. Good view of moon this morning. But it has no Strawberry color to it. Lawn is cut. Good day to stay out of the heat. PT this morning. Stay in out of the heat and humidity rest of the day.

Randy, I remember my grandson getting on tractor with it running. 15 years later he is doing projects with it.

Don, lots of improvements in bikes today from 20 years ago. But they are not cheap.

Good Morning All.

Tanner has been driving the tractor since spring, but only 3-4 times.
My other two grandsons live in Front Royal and don’t get much seat time.

Drew, it depends on the amount of sweets allowed, we got a treat a day out of it until it was stale or all fed to the hogs. We didn’t swarm the truck and eat until we were sick.

90 + again today, near 100 by Sunday.
Please be careful in the heat.
Have a Good day and prayers for all.

I see that several of us had some experience with feeding "day old" bread to our hogs. Does anyone have experience with feeding it to cattle? I used to have a neighbor who said when he first bought a half dozen heifers (he ran a herd of more than 100 when I met him), he bought that bread by the pickup load in Dallas and fed it to those heifers. But he said he kept waiting for them to produce calves and they never did. He said he was finally told that it had something to do with the yeast in bread, so it should not be fed to cows you want to produce; said he sold all of them and bought different ones and quit using that bread.

80 degrees this morning, going for a high of 99. It hit 100 yesterday. I've got to take my 88 year old neighbor grocery shopping this morning and to his eye doctor this afternoon; gonna be a long hot day.

Ron, that reminds me of one early Saturday morning, many years ago when I was in the garage when I heard a loud, but unfamiliar sound, stepped outside just in time to see one of those balloons barely clear our roof with the burner going full blast. I don't know where that idiot took off from, but he sure came close to crashing that morning. And my next door neighbor came running out of his house in his pajamas. He had still been asleep and thought it was an airplane crashing.

Well that's something you don't see too often. Was it an emergency landing?

I see them a lot, one lands around me frequently.

Good morning to all! Low of 62 this morning, going up to SPAM ( sizzle, percolate, and melt ). Supposed to 'cool down' to around 90 for the next week. Maybe a passing shower this weekend, only a 10-20% chance so I don't really expect to see one.

Heard some sad news this morning on another thread here, 'bad day at block rock'. One of our members passed away in May in a house fire. Jim, known as "Crash325", was a special person and we looked forward to reading his posts about 'the old times' . I was fortunate to get one of his handmade craft items. He will be missed, but not forgotten.

Everyone have a good weekend, prayers out for those in need.

The low this morning was 42*, yesterday was in the low 90's partly cloudy and windy. I guess we had a dry cold front come through last night. They show a high for today in the mid 70's with partly cloudy skies and. 20-30 mph wind in the afternoon, but no rain.

We made a early trip to town yesterday and got our stuff done. Also finished up the last of the painting jobs.
Plans for today is to spray some weeds and work on the camp trailer.

Hope everyone has a good start to the weekend.
CWB.

Good Morning!!!! 76 @ 8:00AM. Sunny. High 94F. Winds WNW at 10 to 20 mph.

Power is supposed to go off any minute now for grid maintenance, so we'll see how far I get with this note.

Glad no one was hurt with the landing, Ron.

Sorry to hear that about Crash325, and thanks for passing it along, Ted.

Breakfast in town and errands this morning, hopefully returning after they turn the power back on.

Got suspension installed on Honda yesterday; now waiting for tank sealer and more goodies.

TGIF gang!:drink:
