Good Morning!!!! 95 @ 11:45AM. Sunny. High 99F. Winds N at 10 to 15 mph.
The predicted winds and low humidity are here, and I'm keeping an ear open for the sound of circling aircraft signaling a wildfire. Hope it doesn't come to that, but there are fires springing up all over the state.
Some 40 years ago, Ed, I purchased a Craftsman SAE tap and die set, and it's still going strong. My metric taps and dies have been purchased on an as needed basis, many from McMaster-Carr, but since I use them much less often, the jury is still out on durability. I also have a few of the Vermont brand from the local hardware store, and so far they've done everything I've asked of them.
I remember doing a double century out of Lima, Ohio one summer. Temps were in the 90s during the day, but very refreshing 70s at night. Both my riding partner and I suffered leg cramps from not drinking enough water (back before Gatorade was even invented). Don't think I'd be tempted to try a century these days, especially if the temps were what you'll see, Mostly. Take care and listen to your body.
The power to the house went off a few minutes after I posted yesterday morning, so I went to town and had breakfast and ran some errands. Dropped by the mechanic's around 11AM, but the place was locked up tighter than a drum. A fellow in the next unit said "they don't start working 'till the afternoon, then work into the night.". I replied that the problem is that "they" just don't work at all.
Still dealing with computer glitches from the power outage as I find them. Seems to happen every time the power goes off, requiring resets or reloads of the software. After all these years, it seems the stuff still hasn't reached the dependability of the old land line phone system, but even Ma Bell isn't what she used to be. Progress? I think not.
I only lasted a half hour on the patio yesterday evening in the 95 degree temperatures. I was in the shade, with a nice breeze and a cool beverage, but as soon as the glass went dry I headed in for the evening. Gonna try to spend a little time in the garage, but I'm guessing I'll soon switch to inside jobs to take advantage of the A/C. It'll get a good workout over the next couple of days.
Hope everyone takes it easy in the heat!
