Did not get the weed eating done but sprayed the weeds and grass that was in the wrong places. Picked up some foam sheets for the garage door and hope to get it on soon.

Buppies, The man replaced the blower and it has been quiet ever since. The boy is relaxed and not as stressed as he was so we assume it was the fan noise that was stressing him. We are thankful.

Don, you are ahead of me on unpacking and we moved over two years ago.

Have a great night. Ed

Good evening all. 79F for the start, breezy, partly cloudy. Sky cleared off, wind pickup a bunch and high temp was 101. Had a 1+ hour trip each way for the boat test so that was first on agenda, went well, 2 ft. waves on Lake Texoma, would have bought the one I test drove except it was gray and SWMBO wants red :). Put a deposit down about 1 week del. Pics when in driveway. On the way home she asks are you ready for a new pickup :cool2::drink:
Prayers for all.

Never ate a lima bean sandwich, but I've always been partial to them...
Ever try succotash, Drew? It's simple...corn and lima beans mixed. Succotash was a staple at our house when I was growing up.
Succotash - Wikipedia

Grew up with succotash and I always make a big dish of it here for Thanksgiving. I prefer baby Lima’s rather than the larger ones and a mix of whole kernel corn and creamed corn.

Don
Haven’t read or heard news reports of any significant population changes due to the volcano.
My take: The Puna area tends to be a lower cost area to live and has attracted both local and mainland folks for that reason. many of the local folks will just relocate locally. The mainland folks relocating are more likely to be older retirees having tried their Paradise adventure see this as rationale to relocate back to mainland to be with family. Talked with a couple this past weekend, one of the early burned out homes. They just see it as reason to move to less working demanding home, but still here on the island.
Economics will be a determining factor, owners with insurance are hoping the County/State come up with a solution that enables them to rebuild. Another element is the absentee owners, vacation rentals, but they don’t live here and may not as they aren’t likely to duplicate their circumstances elsewhere on the island.
Those expert at gaming the system are well into it.
My BIL drives a school bus for a charter school that is cutoff by lava. School got out for summer about 3 weeks into event, but he can now collect unemployment for the summer.
The actual % of people directly affected is quite small and limited to a small area of the island.
If paying attention, we can see the cloud/plume driving into Hilo. We haven’t been significantly impacted by the air. Today, on Konaside, the vog was heavy, but we’ve seen it nearly as bad before.

60 right now...high today in the mid-70's and rain/possible thunderstorms.

Got about half the field mowed (finally!) before the rain started. It wasn't raining that hard, but enough to wet the field grass so my tires would smash it down enough the flail wouldn't cut it. Friday will be hot (upper 80's) but should dry things out enough to finish mowing.

Roy, not heard of Succotash before, is that from the same language as Sasquatch ?

Oh - could Succotash be the vegetarian alternative to Sasquatch  - no wonder bigfoot prefers to stay hidden

Good morning. More endless sun today.

Baling contractor managed to squeeze us in yesterday. Some of the Hay is so green it looks as if it is wet , yet couldn't be much drier if cooked in one of Don's air fryers. Finished stacking bales in the field at 10pm and for once didn't have to rain sheet them before they are moved into the hay barn.

Good morning all, 70 going to 86 and sunny today. Hope to get started in the garage door this morning, may get to the weed eating later on.

Don, I just bought the foil backed 4 x 8 sheets of foil backed foam. The foil raises the r factor a bit and with foil tape to seal the edges I think it will look a little batter even if it has words on it. Got a can of foam as well just in case.

Mostly, you got a good one, hang on to her. :)

Eric, actually succotash is a indian word, They grew corn, beans and squash long before we got here.

Have a great day. Prayers sent. Ed

Succotash one of the food staples I was told. Baby Lima’s are my favorite but the way I like it is on no no list for me

Maybe it's a New England thing but I grew up with succotash, and the school lunch program often served succotash.
I'm a Fordhook man, hard to find the big ones, seems to be the opposite marketing compared to my red potatoes.
The small red potatoes are marketed as "gourmet" for forty cents more per pound. Small lima beans though are much less expensive than Fordhook/full size lima beans, so I'm guessing in the lima bean sorting there must be more smalls than larges.

I have two King Of The Garden lima bean plants growing plus lots of Calico beans. I'm told there is no taste difference, will see.

My plans for today got revised after a luncheon date arrived so I have to stay clean this morning. My older friend is working hard to find me a nice lady, and if I need to drive "Miss Daisy" to a few luncheons, a fine investment of time plus this lady is fun to be with. And since she will never read this, I can say gently that with age comes rigidity and it's really clear that by age 87 she wants everything to go just so.... I'm taking her some cukes and tomatoes for her lunch sandwiches and I think she will be delighted.
The garden will be there when I get back, though more thunderstorms possible today.

Mostly, very exciting! I have visions of you putting water skis on your favorite bike and getting pulled behind your new boat. :D
Don't forget to get some roses for your wife for that excellent truck suggestion too.

73 going up to low 90's again, heat returns.

Much needed steady soaking rain started last evening and still w/more to fall today before hot weather arrives.
Time for E muffin and slow roll to work.

Enjoy the day all.

poured first cup of coffee. 66° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 86° with mostly sunny skies. PT went well yesterday. Evaluation visit came up with muscle/nerve problems in neck cause my pain and strength loose in arm. Got yesterdays projects competed in between pain drops. .7" of rain. My try at reading radar was a failure. All I have on list today is cut lawn.

Don I did the insulation panels on my garage doors. Did it the same way as ED. Later I replaced them with insulated doors. Much better.

Eric, glad you got the hay in.

Mostly, new boat and truck. She's a keeper.

Drew, :cool2:

Prayers for all those in need.

Good Morning All.

Succotash is pretty common everywhere I’ve lived from Carolina to California. I do prefer the Fordhooks, but like them all.
Ate bean sandwiches as a kid much to the dismay of dad. One slice, dump the beans of choice on, fold and eat.

About 90 today, 95 all weekend, gonna be a hot car show.

My garage faces west and I’ve been talking about foaming the doors for nearly 5 years.

I have the grandson two more days. I’m keeping him busy.

Ed, now that you are proficient in digital photography could you post a pick when you install it? I need to get a thermometer but I think my garage gets up to 110˚ by late afternoon.

Don, The foam I am using is Polypro from lowes. Foil on one side and plastic on the other. Tough stuff for foam. The kits assume all of the panels are the same size and mine are ALL different so you end up cutting anyway. I am using 1" and it is R6.65 so not bad and the 1 1/2" would be harder to fit in the panels. imho. I have done 99% of the door sense my last post and I looked at the news and a video or two. Not a bad job at all. Just need to piece around a couple more windows. Ed

At my last house we had to replace the garage doors and wow what a difference the insulated doors made, both for heat and noise.
When I moved here the original doors were in bad shape and I replaced them with insulated doors again.
To me well worth the investment, and a good project for upgrading.
Ed, spray adhesive to attach?

An inexpensive IR heat gun from HF is a handy tool, shows you where the hot and cold are.

Don, I may be having a senior moment but was Super Star Member always underlined or is that a new thing?
(wow, this is weird, now it's back to normal. Hmmmmmm.) I'm no IT guy but something just hiccuped.

Frankly the pretentious labels are a bit much. I'd rather just be a Member.
Join date and post count seems sensible. And of course the tractors.
But this is nitpicking in a land of plenty.

I can only wonder how much disk space the 2,259 pictures I have posted take up.
Just hope they won't wind up on the web's proverbial gas station bathroom wall......

digital photography makes so much of this possible. I can't wait for Cat Fever's or CWB's next picture
of mountains in the background. Or Roy's attack on snow drifts.
And now that Whipper isn't fighting snakes any more, what a brave dog, he can ponder
the best doggie golf clubs he's going to hit up Don for. Or maybe his own golf cart. Can you imagine...

<snip> I need to get a thermometer but I think my garage gets up to 110˚ by late afternoon.
Do you want a thermometer you can read across the room?
How important are:
Accuracy?
Cost?
Reliability?

I went through that last year for a "large outdoor thermometer"
and found almost all the inexpensive large thermometers were not accurate.
Well I gave up on trying to find an accurate ~12" thermometer. All the reviews indicated most had inaccuracies. So I just lined up a bunch of Acurites at Walmart and picked 2 that had the same temp and matched their little $1.50 "alcohol" thermometers (which all read the same), plus I bought one of the alcohol thermometers. The ones I lined up varied by 6 degrees.

Checking with other thermometers they seem to be spot on. I expect the alcohol thermometers will be accurate for their lifetime. But they are too small to put 20 feet away and read. So for the extra $1.50 I can check them easily when in doubt.
note
The ones I lined up varied by 6 degrees.
refers to the 12" ers.
