txdon; you are harvesting spuds and mine aren't even in the ground yet.

They were starting to need water every day and the gophers started to nibble on them so it was time to harvest. Record hot day for May 16th since 1925. 97˚.

Whipper gets extra treats tonight, she saved my wife from stepping on a copperhead which was right in the middle of the compass rose. it was dark and Whipper watching my wife walk toward her and all the sudden Whipper ran around and infront of her and herded the copperhead away from her. Good dog!

Good evening all. 68F cloudy, light wind. Wind light and out of the north, dropping dewpoint, sky cleared off and high temp of 85F. Men's metting to start, then bike ride, nap dinner and mow stepdaughter's place.
Drew great pics
Don, nice Taters, great story on whipper.
RS sounds like progress overall, looking forward to fish pics.
Prayers for all, and continued healing

Morning all;
Yes, it seems like spring is jumping in with both feet this year, everything coming at once.
Had the first humming birds last week and the first indigo bunting a couple of days ago;

Beautiful, thanks for sharing Lou!

Kyle, would you enjoy driving one of those, or would the sound of an engine that inherently knocks drive you crazy ?

I suppose you soon get used to things behaving differently if you can see the benefits. I didn't like CVT transmissions at first, yet after a short while I happily accepted their slightly strange ways in return for the improved fuel economy and now quite enjoy the challenge of trying to drive them without the rev counter suddenly having a random hissy fit from a slightly heavy right foot.

Don't know, but the way they quieted the late model 3/4 and 1 ton diesel engines over here was with precise fuel timing.

This years potato crop. This plus 5 gallons I gave away. Planted 10 lbs.View attachment 554662

Bounty!

Re the volcano pics. We did go up there, a friend who lives in town did, so, no, not our dog.

I believe they were OK for air quality due to wind direction and being familiar with the area 8 suspect wind was blowing away from them.

We had a very faint odor this morning, not strong, didn稚 last long.

Should the wind change to affect us, we would have to be mindful of ash. Surely don稚 want that fouling our water supply. Basically we would block inlet to tanks and open the first flush and hope for significant rain. With 16k gallons in the tanks wē could go some Time without concern.

David, I'd be so scared, it would probably straighten out my slice...Take heed, err to caution.

Good dog Whipper!

rs, the 3 fish are in a 55-60 gallon oceanic.. I figure he/she is just getting mean in their old age. :) If I had a fish tank like Ben, my last name would be Poor.

Thank you Jay.

Drew, hope you get some help to pick all that food.

Bups, I hope all goes well.

Cajun, that's why I won't sell my '86 XT 600 Yamaha...at least not until I have a newish bike in it's place....and then I might just keep it considering the memories it gave me....Mexico, continental divide in Colorado, Coleto Creek southwest of Victoria, the list goes on and on.

Good night gentlemen. Prayers.

Randy, one day at a time. It's hard to tell if there is progress healing, because it is slow, but hopefully soon the memories will mostly turn to joyous one's...prayers.

It's good that you have someone to confide in, and don't forget all us geezers care about you.

Last week, My 60 year old coworker calls his daughter, she answers "Hey Dad, what'd I do wrong now?", He said "Nothing honey, I just wanted to tell you what a great mother I think you are and can we go to lunch?"

Good morning. Looks like the plants in the garden may have had a touch of frost last night. Thermometer claims we escaped by a fraction of a degree, although it's cited a little too close to the house to tell the whole story and the sun was out erasing any other evidence of a cold night well before I woke.

Our raised beds still look quite bare when compared to those of you already harvesting. If we couldn't buy food we would be on a very meagre diet of boiled nettles and the last of the sprouting onions. Only crop in abundance at the moment is rabbit.

50’s this morning heading to 70. Need to get first mowing of the season done. Rain coming off and on the next couple days. Not sure if I will be able as I was moving some sheet rock Saturday and something in my arm went rip, rip, rip. Trip to ER and they say soft tissue trauma no use of arm two weeks. Will be trying one handed driving. Wish I had rear mower on the Kubota, that has power steering. Oh well. Best wishes for all!

65 degrees going for a high of 91. Yesterday, I mowed the yard, stopped about 6 times to empty the grass catcher and the last time, the EGO mower would not restart. That has happened before, but after a couple of tries, it restarted. This time, I tried everything I could think of and it wouldn't start. I pushed it around to the other side of the house, tried one more time and it started. However I had to let go of it to put the bagger back on, then it wouldn't start again. So I took it to the dealer from whom I bought it, and of course it started just fine there. So I left it for them to try to find the problem. I hate intermittent problems with equipment.

Good morning all, 65 this morning going to 74 with heavy rain. Guess it will weigh more than 8.34 lbs per gal. ??? Hope to get the LA145 running today. Cleaned the carb but must have missed something as it is still not getting fuel. Hate to fool with it as gas smell gives wife a headache and the only place i have to work is the attached garage. Might have to wait for a sunny day.

Prayers for all, special prayers for RS, LS, and Buppies. Have a great day. Ed

Ouch Phil. that sounds like it hurts still. Heal quickly and be good for at least a couple of days.
This group seems full of folks of "aren't good", well, according to the doctors...;)
guess I have to resemble that...

Rain starts soon here too, hard to plan on much so I decided to ignore the rain.
When it rains, I come in...
Muggy 71 out now only going up to high 70's today.
Forecast reminds me of Florida in the summer, so much heat and humidity out you know the
weather pressure cooker is going to blow a gasket.

Hmmm. Instapots can't blow a gasket can they?
what fun is that

Looks like about two hours until the rain gets here and one hour until
the sun comes up. But light rain while it's in the 70's feels pretty nice when you are dripping sweat
from hoeing corn. What's there had sure better produce.
If I hear thunder I always come in.
One reason my late wife and I left Florida was to get away from the lightning and bad storms, plus of course hurricanes.
Went through two of those in three years. While living on a boat.

Folks still get killed by lightning all the time. Seems golfers don't know when to come in.
And folks run under the big trees to get out of the rain and of course that's the worst place when lightning hits the tree.
I've always thought a car or truck is a pretty good place to be. I mean how many news stories of people being killed by lightning in their
truck do you read? (and I'm sure someone can find one) It's always the tree falling on the vehicle, like those folks sadly dying in New England recently killed
while sheltered in cars.

When the lightning starts, might be good to drop that thirty foot ham antennae in the bed of your truck...

Is a tractor as safe as a car from lightning? More mass, more attractive to something looking for ground?
makes you wonder what you should touch inside the cab...
My Kubota's roof is fiberglass. I wonder if conductivity was a design issue.

Poured second cup of coffee. 49° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 76° with mostly sunny skies. Flail Mower arrived yesterday. It must have 200 lbs of shipping material. Load was 925 lbs. My little B2910 complained a little when I picked it up off back of delivery truck. Today's project is get it unpacked and ready to cut fields. Need to cut lawn sometime today.

Best wishes for a quick recovery Phil, Buppies, LS and others.

Prayers for all those in need.

Good Morning All.

Automobiles trains boats interesting subjects. Our family are diesel nuts so to speak my truck wife's SUV and sons are all diesel excellent fuel mileage shame VW had to cover up things but does anyone know what branch of VW came up with the test defeat feature? I'm just curious

Bird I had same problem, the handle bar had to be pulled all the way out. If it slid in a fraction of an inch it cuts off, try unlocking it, pull it out and relocking it.

Thanks, Don. And yep, I tried that repeatedly. I normally never collapse the handle bar; just leave it out and locked, but anyway when it wouldn't start, that was one of the things I tried. I tried changing the battery, even though I was sure the one I started with was fully charged. I tried the headlights and they worked fine. I thought about the possibility of a thermal overload switch, but if it had one (and I still suspect it does), it's not mentioned in the owner's manual. My best guess at this point is an electrical connection that loses contact.

Good morning. 70 going to 95F today.
Pressure washed the tractor yesterday. Plan to check out the hydraulic remote valves to find out where the leak is this afternoon. It'll take me a long time to fix this tractor when I only have about an hour every day to work on it.

Speaking of lightning, years ago I was the captain of a fishing vessel and our boat was hit by lightning. The bolt struck the fiberglass antennae and fried everything electrical on board including my depth sounder, LORAN radar, generator, starter on the main engine. The diesel engine kept running and since the fishing was good, we stayed out there for an extra 7 days. We had to borrow a couple batteries from other boats and rigged up navigation lights to remain legal to be out there. We came in with a pretty good haul. Enough for me to take care of all the damages.

Prayers for all those on the mend. I wish you all well.

Good Morning everyone.

A humid, mid 50F start to the day with temperatures expected to reach the high 70F's. It is predicted be cooler, but sunny tomorrow, a warmer Friday, and a wet weekend around here this weekend. Next week will be warmer and drier.

Drew- I really like your roses. I am envious of your garden. I saw an "experiment" on the Weather Channel. Vehicles are safe to be inside during a Tstorm as long as one is not touching metal. Is there any exposed metal in vehicle interiors anymore?

BEF- I am happy to read that you survived the dental work. Good luck with your temporary crown. They do not make them like they used to.

Don- Those potatoes look good. Whipper is a good dog. Was this snake awareness pure instinct?

David- What is the capacity of your water tanks? I hope the prevailing winds keep prevailing. Good luck.

Buppies- It looks like a very wet weekend around here.

RS- Good luck with the fish tanks and I am waiting for some pictures.

Phil- "soft tissue trauma"= a world of hurt. I hope you mend quickly. Working one handed is not easy.

CjR- Awesome boat story and how you and your crew cobbled together a working electrical system and kept on fishing.

My back is complaining about yesterday's contortions and exertions needed to get that :censored: tiller's PTO shaft attached to the rear PTO spline. The driveshaft was one of those "one size fits all" sizes when I bought the tiller. I had to cut both shafts shots 3X, but it fits and has worked for the past 10 years. My decrepit physical condition, the limited work space, the "tri point"(?) shaft shape, and the overriding PTO clutch with a locking ring did not make attachment easy; but I found "a method" that works (for now) and it's attached and I can rotate the tines manually = ready to go. This is a weird tiller it has the overriding clutch on the front of the PTO shaft and a more common disk slip clutch on the tiller itself.

My + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for all.

I hope that everyone has a decent day.
