Buppies, good luck today, hope everything goes easily. If you are stuck inside, might as well be raining.
Wow, lot of rain North of me. We are getting on and off showers here but not very much yet.
I will be going out in between the showers today to try to do a little more hoeing.
Am also going to transplant several dozen Hale cantaloupe plants that I planted by seed to
some areas in the fenced garden that either didn't produce or like pak choy are all done.

got the oil changed in the Kubota tractor yesterday, that was easy. Hardest thing is carefully pouring old oil into recycling containers.
Pan is pretty heavy with 2 gallons of oil in it.

For over five years most of the time this tractor has had too much oil in its crankcase. Done by two different Kubota dealers.
They always overfilled, at least a half inch above the line, and there is already a full two inches below that in the low to high range.
Just zero reason to overfill unless they are just dumping what the manual says in there and not even checking the oil level.
I figured half an inch over wouldn't hurt anything but just surprised me dealers would consistently do this.

So it was nice when I was done to pull the dipstick out and see the oil level where it should be, just a hair below full.
I've never ever had to add oil to this tractor, it was overfull enough...but I doubt with 475 hours it uses any oil at all.
Today in the rain I hope to crawl around under the Super A and try to tighten some pan gaskets and whatever else is leaking under there.
I also bought some straight 40W oil at TSC, the conventional old stuff, and will do an oil change on that at some point. Until then I need to
refill it with 30 weight to replace what leaked out in my corn field. Thankfully with the offset tractor frame, the leak was to the left of most of the corn.
And it couldn't have been too much, just annoyed that this was the number one priority when it went into the shop for repairs, stop the leaks.
They did, for five hours. I think the engine got hot enough that things expanded and gaps were created.

A dumb question...if you mix straight 40 weight oil with straight 30W oil, what do you get. I doubt 35W but would an old wide tolerance engine like
this care having slightly different viscosities flowing through it? The current oil is clean, wondering if I can dump 40W on top of 30W.
More concerned with downsides...

That terribly weedy straw just might be good for something if I can eat those mushrooms.
I love to cook with mushrooms so if I can eat them that would be great.

I've got 2 more cables to run for the cameras and that will be that. All 7 installed.

I got the Dodge yesterday afternoon and also added an extended warranty to the contract. an additional 2 years or 40,000 kms (25,000 miles). Good all over north America except for Mexico.
It is funny, but the woman that I singed the paperwork with didn't know that Mexico was part of North America. She thought it was in South America. lol

daugen, I am not saying nothing about your 'shrooms. I don't know the difference and treat them all as poisons. Matbe that is why I never tried magic Mushrooms.

Good morning everyone. Like Ron I had a beautiful "red sky" sunrise as well with walk #1 this morning. I am on coffee #2; I suspect today will be a highly caffeinated day. I need to take a ride to the "Big City" for a med and grocery run this morning to take advantage of what will be the last dry day before the rain arrives for the weekend and beyond. Too bad the pharmacy does not open until 9AM.

We have had 5 in of rain since this event started and it raining very hard now. Numerous flooded roads swift water rescue last night and a house moved off its foundation

64 going to 73 and more heavy rain today...federal flood warnings in our area. We have also gotten over 5 inches...my little creek looks like a whitewater river now...bridge completely flooded over, and some erosion. Even have some standing water on slopes...what has gone wrong with gravity today? A nearby reporting station has gotten over 7.5 inches.

At least we had a couple of hours yesterday with sun...I actually mowed for 20 minutes before it started raining again.

Buppies, I hope your surgery is successful and not too uncomfortable.

I've seen some like this growing in straw before-- I asked two different libertarians, and one believed they were psychedlic (European libertarians tend to be more in to this sort of "liberty" than many American ones). I was also wondering if they were edible or not, as they were growing in the hay that had fallen to the ground where the goats were eating over winter.

Your best bet is to find someone living near you who is familiar with the local mushrooms, given that mushrooms that are edible in one region may have look alikes in another region that are poisonous.

Annual garage sale w/e here so will be touring all the side streets.
City publishes a list of sales to make shopping easier, by local law we only are allowed 2 sales per year on specified dates with no exceptions.
Sales dates are the norm recently as just too many were operating home businesses under the guise of 'garage/yard sale'.

Something got two of our indian runner ducks and the rouen duck, leaving us with just one runner duck and rouen mallard.

I noticed earlier this week that the dog, when he runs away from me out in the field, was ending up later in the area were the chickens/ducks are penned up, so putting fencing against the boards that make up the wall of the shed of the neighboring house was on my to-do list.

Not sure though if foxes or hawks-- part of the Rouen duck, which was large, was left behind, but the indian runners who are lightweight were totally gone. Leads me to believe a hawk carried off the runners and just ate as much of the Rouen before the dog perhaps scared her away. But could have been a fox unable to get out the hole.

We were gone most of yesterday for my oldest son's birthday, so not sure when it happened either.

It is swimming weather here with temps in the high 90s in the afternoon. Water temp 85˚ It is also very dry, the grass is wilting. Happy to report there is no volcano activity here making it a bit uneventful, but sometimes uneventful is good. Not a good time to mow, unless I need a cloud to cool things off - a cloud of dust.

Long time to clean up for cleaning ladies, now a break and then go work on machinery in the barn.

The "rule" I've always heard is not to mix synthetic oil with petroleum based oil, Drew. And even if you carefully measure the proportions, the viscosity still may not be what you calculate. Another rule I live by is to not eat wild mushrooms. Even the experts sometimes get sick/dead from breaking this rule.

Sorry about your birds, Andrew. Might be time to set up a game camera to find out what killed 'em.

Plenty of crickets chirping when I awoke this morning at about 4:30, even one in the kitchen when I went to get a drink of water. Sounded like it was coming from a corner on the counter, but when I got there I couldn't tell where the noise was coming from any longer. The cricket kept chirping, so I was obviously not close enough. Now the geese are up honking over the lake, the hummers are buzzing and squawking on the feeders, and other feathered friends are calling that it's time to get after the worm. For me that means more tractor time, and whatever other trouble I can find to get into this afternoon.:laughing:

I did a lot of limbing yesterday, and a whole lot more branch gathering and dumping them on the burn pile, but while admiring my work from the comfort of the back patio last night realized I could do a whole lot more. But that would be for appearances sake, and not fire safety, so I'll draw the line and give my neck, shoulders, and hands a few days to recuperate from their workout in the "wood gym".

While in town yesterday I went to Home Depot and Tractor Supply looking for a bolt with a 13/16" hex head on it to match the size of my neighbor's trailer lug nuts. 5/8" bolts were too big, 1/2" too small, and neither store had 9/16" bolts. This is what happens when chain stores try to take the place of real hardware stores. There are only two left in town now, both on the other side from where I was, and it was already past 5PM so I decided to leave it for next week.

The neighbor and I looked at the trial fit of the new fenders on his trailer yesterday as well, and he's decided that they are a LOT bigger than the old ones. So much so that we may end up trimming them a bit, and extending the simple brackets I'd envisioned so they will ride much closer to the tires. I hope not too much lower, though, as he was thinking of allowing only two inches between the two. Not sure how much travel the suspension provides, so next time I get it up on jack stands I'll make some measurements. He needs it back to haul his tractor Saturday, so I towed it to his place for him and got to meet the deputy sheriff that he's befriended. More than befriended, as the neighbor's wife and the deputy have started a goat raising business together and now have close to ninety animals they're caring for. It's saving my neighbor some tractor time not mowing, but he's instead building more fences, a trade off I'm not sure he's very happy with.:laughing: The wife has even roped the deputy into helping with the fencing, an activity he didn't look happy with, either.:laughing::laughing: Despite an invitation to join them for a taco lunch, I begged a rain check and got mine in town, otherwise I'd have been wrangling fence for her as well.:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Good morning to all! Low of 48, going up to 78 today, no rain, maybe a little wind. 20 to 30% chance of rain on Sunday, we really need it.

Got the weed eater all set up and tuned yesterday, probably use it today around a few spots around the trees, driveway, and walkways. That's the only places the grass / weeds are growing. Off to PT first this morning, then drop the dogs off at the groomer, then I'll get into something.

Don, I don't even have to mow this spring, every blade of grass turned brown, broke off, then blew away.

Drew, yes the oil can mix, you will essentially end up with 35 weight. As the mushrooms go, I have no idea...Andrew has the best bet.

David, stay safe, no deep breathing...it's sad to see the damage / devastation, but at the same time spectacular images.

It was 37* this morning, it was mostly sunny and in the low 70's yesterday. Today is going to be in the 60's with 40% chance of thunderstorms this afternoon.

Talked to my friend in North Carolina last night. He drives for YRC, he was on his way back to Charlotte from Richmond VA the night before last when he hit a piece of steel on the road. It blew the right front steering tire on the truck. It put him in the ditch, he said that he keep his foot in it and the back box on the set of doubles end up on its side. He got the truck back on the shoulder of the road. He said the pintle hook broke off, but the dolly stayed hooked to the back box and the safety chains stayed hooked to the front box.
This was the first accident he has had in 30 years of driving for the company. I'm sure glad he was ok, he is coming out here this fall to go hunting with me. He also said that there was a car on the side of the road that had hit the piece of steel and lost a oil pan before he hit it.

Going up and work on the fence today

came in for early lunch, was a real grease monkey this morning but very successful.
Found the leak on the Super A, one of the pan bolts was loose almost the entire length of the bolt.
And it was the very hardest one to get at, no wonder...halfway in between and under, a real pain to even get my fingers on,
particularly with my arthritis. But I got it tightened again, and I bet more firmly than it was originally but not crazy tight, this old steel and tin
deforms too easily. Tightened all the pan bolts, most at least a quarter turn, but since this loose bolt was at the lowest spot, that's where the oil was
coming out. Couldn't have been too bad, oil still shows full by the dripometer they call a dip stick on this tractor. Then went and gave it a full lube job,
next is changing the oil. I had to chuckle that the original oil filter emblem says change filter every 20 hours.
